Calzaghe, Kessler comments!
www.fightnews.com The war of words between super middleweight champions Joe Calzaghe and Mikkel Kessler has started months before their November 3 superfight in Cardiff, Wales. "There's no way I'm going to lose the fight because I'll be in the best shape of my life and when I'm at my best no one can beat me," says Calzaghe, who wants to be remembered as possibly the greatest super middleweight ever. "His style suits me. He's a very solid European-style fighter - quite upright and someone who comes in straight lines."
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Kessler called Calzaghe "an awkward fighter who throws a lot of punches but slaps a lot, too....I don't want to reveal my tactics, but I'll keep my distance as usual. I'm a more intelligent fighter than Calzaghe....I know that I'm number one in the division and I'm going to kick his ass

Re: Calzaghe, Kessler comments!
Well Kess better really execute his plan to a T... And he better take advantage of Joes mistakes/bad habits that he has.
Speaking of that.....
Oh! Fenster.... ;D The other day you rolled your pannies up in a bunch when I mentioned Joe slaps his punches you said I was getting tiring and old with it... Well look I didn't need to say it in this thread Kess himself said it... :D

Its funny when the Calzaghe fans get fired up. I was told by a couple the other day that Calzaghe had a better record than Hopkins. Also Jones Junior was scared of Joe. All the great middle/supermiddle/lightheavy fightrs of the last 10 years have ducked Joe and he doesnt duck anyone. Its amazing their loyalty and one eyed support.

Re: Calzaghe, Kessler comments!
Just about everyone whos fought Calzaghe has called him a slapper - still 43 and 0 so I guess he slaps pretty damn hard.
-
Re: Calzaghe, Kessler comments!
He says in his biography that he throws his punches so fast he does not have time to "turn them over" properly so they do look like slaps , if he threw them all turned over he would have slower handspeed and more power, but he chooses the speed.
-
Re: Calzaghe, Kessler comments!
Nice to see some comments from Kessler on the fight too, although they're generic enough that they could have been from before the fight.
I think Kessler will struggle to keep the distance between them, cause although he's got a good jab Calzaghe has the footwork and movement to slip that and get in pretty quick, and the punches don't always come from straight in front of you if you're fighting JC.
Already looking forward to November....going to be a cracker!

Kessler: Calzaghe is a slapper!
http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/boxing/6903699.stm
Calzaghe v Kessler could attract a world record crowd
Mikkel Kessler has built the heat ahead of his 3 November super middleweight unification bout with Joe Calzaghe by claiming that the Welshman "slaps".
A shocking accusation that is totally without merit IMO. ;D

Re: Kessler: Calzaghe is a slapper!
didnt lacy say he slaps ???
whatever happened to that guy ???

Re: Kessler: Calzaghe is a slapper!
Kessler deserves a slap for being so fucking unoriginal

Surely you don't find the old "one-two" boring Fenster....and occasionally, to really mix it up, young kesler does double up the jab for a "one-one-two". How much more exciting would you want?

Re: Kessler: Calzaghe is a slapper!
On fight night Calzaghe will be slapping the hell out of Kessler!

Re: Kessler: Calzaghe is a slapper!
Ah the old familiar routine. Calzahe picks an opponent, opponent is bullish about coming to Wales and dethroning the champ, opponent sees weaknesses in Calzaghe's style, opponent accuses Calzaghe of slapping his shots, opponent vows to make Calzaghe pay, opponent arrives in the UK for fight, opponent get a** spanked and is sent back on an easyjet to wherever they came from, opponent becomes a bum. 8)

I agree mate,if Joe beats him easy people will say Kessler is unproved and over hyped.

I think Kessler is a good fighter...IMO he will be the best on Joe's resume....But far from great
I will give Joe credit if he beats Kessler for finally cleaning out all possible worthy challenges in his division...
Something that should have been done long long ago.....
I like Joe...I think he is good for boxing..He portrays a good image and is always respectful......
I don't like the years of broken promises and excuses......
Something I attribute more to his promoter then anything....But Joe has to take a large part of that blame...He has a say in who he fights and when.....
I promise you Calzaghe is like Warrens pride and joy...Fat Ass Frankie would do backflips if Calzaghe wanted him too

Hell I would pay to see Larry Merchand snub him again....The Look on Warrens face was golden....
They could have made a master card commercial with that moment.....
Defending Your Title In Wales...$200,000 in gate recipts
Knocking out your opponent in the first round.....1.2 million dollars.....
The look on Frank Warrens face when Larry Merchant turns his back on him......Priceless

Have you seen the promo pics of him with a viking sword and battleaxe, and one of those hats with horns on them. To be honest, he just looks sheepish and really disappointed that he had stooped so low!

Re: Calzaghe, Kessler comments!
Should be a cracking fight,I hope we get to see it. I hope negotiations really have been sorted and JC takes care of his hands. I think Kessler can win this fight. JC uses his speed and work rate to beat fighters but Kessler can negate a high work rate as could be seen from the Andrade fight and Kessler is alose very powerful wth sharp speed.
On the other hand,JC is much faster than Andrade and if he can block Kesslers attacks,he could prevail too. It all depends on how Kessler handles JC's speed. If he uses his jab, controls the fight,he'll win.

Re: Calzaghe, Kessler comments!
Its interesting to hear the comments so far. Calzaghe has maintained a level of respect. Kessler decides that Joe is a slapper and is gonna kick some ass!!! ;D
Been here before!!!
If Calzaghe is able to bring 90% of his A game then Kessler will not be able to do anything about Calzaghe whatsover.
This is my fight of the year, second only to Pac: Barrera 2!!
Bring it!! :D

Calzaghe is gonna get severly hit trying to "swarm" .Kessler. He will taste straight right too much and end up like the other old guys like Beyer, Siaca, Lucas.
Hell they were all younger men than Calzaghe. Calzaghe will simply not leave his seat for round 9. That is if he has brains left. If not we will all enjoy seeing Calzaghe fumbling round on the canves trying to figure out where he is and what happend to him, unable to stand up.
When he gets up he will face the reality of being beat in front of 60.000+ fans. Woouuw is that humiliating

There is an awful lot of talking to be completed before we get to the stage of actually seeing the fight. There will be ridiculous statements, there will be slapper claims and one dimensional claims going back the other way. There will be abuse, arguments, name-calling, but ultimately, the build-up is going to be going for a fair while yet, and welcome to the best place for it. Saddo's.
Have a :coolclick: on me and welcome .

Calzaghe slaps a lot using the inside of the gloves and even punches that sometimes are similar to karate-punches thrown upside down (see the ending of the Manfredo-fight in slow motion).
I think he does this to look like a busy bee and quicker than his opponents.
But these are illegal punches.
He can get away with it, since he almost only fight in UK with WBO
In other countries he would not be allowed to use this style throughout a fight. And that would hurt his chances to win.
Therefor it is good for him, that he has the hometown advantage in November with that in mind

And with just over 4 months to go until the fight takes place, the Kessler fans begin to roll out the excuses as to why their fighter is going to get his arse whooped. ;)
But the fact of the matter is that all referees no matter where you are will pick a fighter up if he's punching illegally, and Calzaghe is a very busy bee. And anyway, the problem with that argument is that many of his fights have taken place with foreign referees, who also haven't picked him up on it, so do they get hit with some sort of ray-gun as they come through customs that changes their brain in some way? Sounds the likeliest explanation....

I somehow seem to have dejavu on the last line......Such poetry.......But non the less; the truth. I think all the bullshit hype surrounding Calzaghe is gonna have a very FULLSTOP nov3. Kessler's righthand should not be taken lightly. Mikkel has not problem whatso ever fighting southpaw's. Look a Beyer. Bam one two. Mikkel has 12 rounds to make one precise punch from his righthand. Joe has been down before. Kessler has not.
Anyway, kessler certainly aint Manfredo or Bika.

Ah well, I'm sure Danny_G can mock you up a picture of it somehow, cause there's no way Kessler's jab is going to find Calzaghe with his footwork and body movement. ;)
