Your strange opinions on boxing........
Hi there,
I just wanted to hear some opinions that you guys have either about boxers or fights that other people disagree with you and/or think that you are just plain strange for saying.
For example some of mine are....
Lennox Lewis (on top form) would have a more than 50% chance than beating any other heavyweight that ever live (on there best night).
Even the best version of Mike Tyson would have lost to Buster Douglas on the night they fought.
Evander Holyfield was blaintenly on some form of performance enhancing drugs why he was fighting at heavyweight those who think he wasn't are just deluding themselves (not sure this one is strange).
Im sure i will think of some more but for now i have to get on with some work.

Re: Your strange opinions on boxing........
IMO, Lennox Lewis, at his best could beat any other Heavyweight. Lennox was truly amazing, and should be considered in the top 10 boxers in P4P history. (Many will disagree with me, but he beat everyone there was to beat, and that included some quality Heavies)
I think Tyson at his best would have stomped on Buster inside a few rounds. Tyson was something special, and I hope somebody similar comes along again to the Heavyweight division in my lifetime.
I wouldn't be surprised if Evander has dabbled in the steroids. It doesn't matter if he did or he didn't though, because God helped him through each victory, so therefore the steroids would have had no extra effect.

Re: Your strange opinions on boxing........
For the record I thought Tyson won the Douglas fight just because of that very slow 10 count, but to Douglas' credit he was in perfect form and the only reason he got up is because of his memory and devotion to his mother and went on to abuse Tyson even more. Douglas to me had great potential but that night he shined when he needed to. And though I was as fascinated as anyone else with Tyson, I never personally ranked him in the top 15 of Heavyweights period. I wanted Tyson to win at that time, but am glad now Douglas did it, for sentimental reasons of his mom. But it was a travesty that he was given so much time to get off the floor.

I actually did some research into Oscar De La Hoya's background because I was convinced he was the antichrist :detective:

Re: Your strange opinions on boxing........
Years ago guys I worked with @ the time were saying no way Leonard beat Hagler. I can see people disagreeing about the decision in that fight but they said Ray didn't knock down or knock out Hagler so no way should he have won that fight.
I told them it's called boxing, not knockout. If it took knocking down or knocking out Hagler to beat him, I don't think he ever would have lost a fight @ 160.

Re: Your strange opinions on boxing........
Good point Black Razor. To give a horrible analogy, people say baseball is boring, they just want to see home runs. Well, then go to the home run derby, as baseball entails more than just a home run. Same with boxing, as it is an awesome display of a physical chess match, and Leonard was a grandmaster.

Yes for me also Lennox would have beaten any other heavy of any era best out of 3 :)

Re: Your strange opinions on boxing........
My strangest opinion about boxing is that i fiercely believe that they should introduce a new weight divsion between Cruiserweight and Heavyweight.
Especially now the Cruisers are starting to come along nicely, it will be a shame to watch the few who venture up to Heavyweight fail miserably.
The should be a new limit of 225or so 8)

I hear you on that bro'. I could only deal with 2 showboaters; Ali and my man Emanuel Augustus. That guy probably lost more fights because of decisions going against him for showboating then anyone I know of.

Re: Your strange opinions on boxing........
-I think the majority of "boxing fans" are actually only fans of the violence and knockouts, and not of the actual sport of boxing itself. This would explain the unpopularness of guys like Floyd Mayweather and Cory Spinks, ect.
-I feel that most boxing fans overrate the fighters of old, perhaps to be viewed as knowledgeable or "old school". I'm not talking about guys like Ali, Ray Robinson, Roberto Duran, ect. I'm talking about the guys who NO ONE here has actually seen fight (or maybe only saw 1 or 2 clips on them), and still ranking them in the top 5 of all time in their weight class.

Okay whats with the "boxing fans" quotation marks like we aint true boxng fans if we dont like Spinks?
Spinks is NOT the epitome of Boxing.
Believe me, if ever i stand corrected on that i'll let Pro Boxer 18 bend me over and rip me a new one :-\

I think that's really the case with a lot of MMA fans who enjoy guys tackling one another and slamming each other to the ground - like wrestling but for real.
That's probably why wrestling has actually been losing more PPV $'s than boxing has recently as it was assumed from an article I read recently.

Re: Your strange opinions on boxing........
TRINIDAD AT HIS PRIME AT 147 IS UNBEATABLE. THAT INCLUDES PBF, DLH, MOSLEY, LEONARD, HEARNS, DURAN, ROBINSON, ANYBODY!!!!!!!
I know its crazy, I just can't help my self, I don't really think he is unbeatable..HE IS..sory again. but I do think he could beat any welterweight in any ara at least once...EVERY TIME..stop it.. sory... out of three... ;D

Re: Your strange opinions on boxing........
I think the should make a headgear that only covers the back of the head, the soft spot. It has to leave the jaw and temples open tho, and make it for use in pro boxing. I think Hopkins won the first fight with Taylor. Sugar Ray Leonard got gift decisions for his public image. The heavyweight should be broken up, and make a super heavyweight division, then combine cruiserweight and smaller heavies, maybe cut off at 240.

Re: Your strange opinions on boxing........
Womens boxing should be aired on the Lifetime network(more woman viewers). Leave ESPN2 and Fox to air more men in the ring.

Re: Your strange opinions on boxing........
I guess there strange cause I haven't heard anyone else share them sooo here goes.
Gomez should have been DQ'd for hitting Zarate while he was down.
Arguello won the 1st meeting with Pryor.
Ricardo Lopez is underrated.
RJJ could have fought in any era of boxing and would have been a nightmare for anyone.

Agreed 100% with this... actually this kinda goes hand in hand with my "overrating the old timers" opinion... If Roy Jones lived 50 years earlier but had the same level of compedition, did the same things in the ring and had the exact same accomplishments, people would be saying he was the greatest of all time IMO.

There is a difference between being a fan of violence and not wanting to watch Cory Spinks and Floyd run away for 12 rounds. If/when i want to go see running ill go watch athletics.

Re: Your strange opinions on boxing........

Well I admit I am an elitist or a "purist" when it comes to boxing. There are so many styles of boxers, and if you can't appreciate them (or if you think what Floyd Mayweather does is considered "running"), to me you are not a boxing fan. To me, its like watching basketball only for the fancy slam dunks, or watching hockey only for the body checks and fights. I know this is an unpopular opinion and will probably piss a lot of people off, but I gotta be honest.

Re: Your strange opinions on boxing........
Here's one I've been thinking about for a several months now. I think there should be two additional judges watching the fight on TV with a spacial live feed where they cannot hear the comentators.

Re: Your strange opinions on boxing........
I'd love for big PPV fights to be on weekdays like in the 80's and early 90's. A fighter should also NEVER be stripped for unifying a title. But I don't think that's one too strange.
