:) Good read that article, one thing about Eubank, if he thinks he lost a fight, he puts his hand up,even though he gets the verdict, He has always been honest to himself, hence he believes, he would have stopped Calzaghi in his prime,and i for one could believe him ;)

Eubank failed to stop any World Class Boxers after the Watson affair, i think it would be a close encounter with Calzaghe prime for prime, but i cant see Eubank ever stopping Joe.

Prime for Prime I can see Eubank beating Calzaghe, out of his prime and weight drained he gave Calzaghe a tough fight. In his prime and not weight drained especially pre-Watson would know Calzaghe as the guy who was beaten by Simply the Best.

Chris always had a chin like iron and came to compete, but his biggest weakness was always his workrate.he would pose and con his way through lots of fights when he was deathly tired.
One of Joe's primary weapons is his workrate.
Styles make fights, and I wouldn't necessarily agree that Calzaghe is a vastly superior fighter to Eubank....... but I think he would nearly always win.

Eubank always struggled with fighters who don't fight at his pace and i don't think Eubank gave Calzaghe that much of tough fight he caught Calzaghe a few times but in all exchanges he was outworked and Calzaghe dominated him Eubank did catch Calzaghe with a right hand in final seconds of the 12 which hurt Calzaghe but overall Calzaghe dominated Eubank and Eubank was simply outworked like he would of been in his prime it would of been close in there prime but i think he would be outworked by Calzaghe and lose decisions unless Eubank doesn't get his famous gift decisions in fights :-\

That might be the way you see it, but it isnt the way it would happen.
Eubank was really good but his workrate was always suspect. Calzaghe is the last fighter to have those issues with.

Prime for Prime I can't see Calzaghe beating Chris. Eubank, I think we can all agree was 10 times the champion that Calzaghe is. You just have to look at his resume to see that..Eubank never backed away from a challenge..his last 2 fights were proof of that. Moving up to Cruiserweight to come close to beating Karl Thompson. That was a time I would have been proud to back our British fighters..but now we just have arrogance in the form of Calzaghe and even a little in Hatton. These guys toot their horns when they havn't done shit.
Coincidently my favourite boxer at this moment in time = Floyd Mayweather Jr..yepp he talks the most shit. Difference? He backs it up..just like Eubank used to..

What a random posting! You meander from Eubank to Mayweather and in the process belittle Hatton and Calzaghe for no good reason. You then tell us that Mayweather always backs it up! Yes, of course he does. Sharmba, Baldomir and Gatti were always A level artists weren't they?!
If you are inferring that Eubank and Mayweather often fought less than stellar opposition then perhaps I am following you. ;)

First off have a nice sad click from me, now Cazlaghe is going to fight in his second unification, how many did Chris fight in again?? Mate i love Eubank, but there was many fighters in his era who he never fought, the list is endless, Nunn, MCcallum,RJJ, Toney. Hatton has gone to a different country to go prove hes the best Hatton has already beaton two fighters that are better than anyone who Eubank beat, you need to go do a bit more research, Eubank was more shy than Calzaghe when it came to travelling and fighting bums, i give him my respect fighting Thompson and they were great fights and he only lost because he was the smaller man, but that was at the end of his career and he had nowhere else to go. Calzaghe and Hatton are both p4p fighters and two of the best the Uk has produced.

I would say atleast 3 out of the 4 fights i just mentioned Eubank should of lost Eubanks best wins aren't that much better than Calzaghes best wins except the Benn victory.

Calzaghe is a lot more protected than Eubank was..Eubank was always put in situations where the possibility of a loss was very real! How many dangerous situations can you think of that calzaghe has been put in where the possibility of a loss was real? Peter Manfredo? Haha..get real! All of you can be as quick as you like to jump on me for preferring Eubank over Calzaghe but i'm sure i'm not the only one that shares the same view. Eubanks resume is 10x better than Calzaghes I can't even believe anybody is arguing that point..he has 2 big wins on his 40+ undefeated streak?? i respect Eubank more for the losses he has on his resume than I do calzaghe for the wins because they are all gift wrapped and delievered to his door..its boring. Hatton? He has fought one guy..ever..Kostya..and there is still the arguement about wether Kostya would have worked him in his younger days. Hatton has been exposed by lesser fighters (collazo, urango) so he is a B class fighter at best for me. Castillo win holds no weight for me also..they were good performances..can't deny him that at all but would it have been different had these 2 fighters been in their prime?

Jeff Lacy was favourite to beat him and alot of so called experts said Joe was going down within 6 rounds, so you not think that was a dangerous fight to take?? You make some interesting points, but again you strangely bring Hatton into a thread that has no relevance to Hatton.

Funny, both have the nobody wants it WBO, and both have fought a series of no hopers and try and pass them off as genuine title challengers, neither of them are prepared to fight outside their own back yards, both Muppets and an embarrassment to British boxing

It is quite awkward trying to explain something to someone who clearly can't read and most likely didn't make it past nursery school...If I recall I DID MENTION that in his 40+ undefeated career calzaghe had only 2 names that meant anything...who do you think I was referring to when I mentioned that? Mario Viet? No, one of them was Eubank (albeit way out of his prime) and the other was indeed Left Hook Lacy..so I was giving Calzaghe credit for the schooling he gave Lacy..i'd be stupid not to. As far as Kessler, sure thing..i'll give him credit for that..but at what stage in his career? It's a little too late for me..Eubank, Benn..good champions in general face stiff competition at around 20 professional fights..why the need to cradle Calzaghe for 40+!? Look at Taylor..not his biggest fan but his 20th pro fight was Bernard Hopkins!! Then Winky Wright..big risks and he deserves credit for taking them win, lose or draw. Most decent fighters get into stiff competition at around the 20-25 pro bouts mark. E.G De La Hoya, Mayweather..Vargas even! I don't blame Calzaghe solely, its more Frank Warren..but grow some balls like Ricky Hatton and leave the fucking guy!
Miles, I just used Hatton as an example of a protected british fighter in my initial post mate (although he gets my respect for leaving Warren..temporarily it seems now though :(). Someone just responded with Hatton as an arguement and I was just giving my opinion on his point.

Eubank was only ever the underdog against Benn i believe i think you do need to do some research because Eubanks best wins aren't that much better to Calzaghes best wins and Calzaghe only ever had 1 close decision Eubank got about 5 gift decisions i will copy and paste what i said on the other page.

There you've got it, imo.. I think both Calzaghe and Eubank have definetly been protected to a degree, and both hurt their chances at being remembered as greater than they will be by staying in their own backyards... However, Eubank definetly didn't have a better resume imo, and Calzaghe was/is also a superior p4p fighter than Chris if you ask me. The real difference is that Eubank had more options, more top level fighters that he could have faced, as you listed in your post. Calzaghe in reality has missed out on a couple of good chances, I won't include Hopkins and Roy Jones as noone really knows who's to fault in those fights not coming together(though again, Calzaghe having never fought in the US is a big reason, imo).. But I definetly think that Joe deserves some blame for never fighting Glen Johnson. That fight was practically set on paper SEVERAL times, and god knows Glen Johnson doesn't duck anyone, or refuse a good payday anywhere. But Eubank had a hell of a lot of great fighters he could have squared off against if he left the UK. Nunn, Toney, Jones, McCallum, a Steve Collins fight could have been made without doing so... There were a lot more world class opponents around MW/SMW in those days, and Eubank would have probably been the underdog against any of the best American fighters. Today, Calzaghe would probably be the favourite against most anyone, though like I say, he still should have put forth more effort to make it Stateside and fight them, imo. Taylor, Winky, Hopkins, are a hell of a lot better than the guys on his resume. But as long as he fights Kessler next, he can't be faulted at the moment.

Mate i love Eubank, but there was many fighters in his era who he never fought, the list is endless, Nunn, MCcallum,RJJ, Toney. Hatton has gone to a different country to go prove hes the best Hatton has already beaton two fighters that are better than anyone who Eubank beat, you need to go do a bit more research, Eubank was more shy than Calzaghe when it came to travelling and fighting bums, i give him my respect fighting Thompson and they were great fights and he only lost because he was the smaller man, but that was at the end of his career and he had nowhere else to go. Calzaghe and Hatton are both p4p fighters and two of the best the Uk has produced.
There you've got it, imo.. I think both Calzaghe and Eubank have definetly been protected to a degree, and both hurt their chances at being remembered as greater than they will be by staying in their own backyards... However, Eubank definetly didn't have a better resume imo, and Calzaghe was/is also a superior p4p fighter than Chris if you ask me. The real difference is that Eubank had more options, more top level fighters that he could have faced, as you listed in your post. Calzaghe in reality has missed out on a couple of good chances, I won't include Hopkins and Roy Jones as noone really knows who's to fault in those fights not coming together(though again, Calzaghe having never fought in the US is a big reason, imo).. But I definetly think that Joe deserves some blame for never fighting Glen Johnson. That fight was practically set on paper SEVERAL times, and god knows Glen Johnson doesn't duck anyone, or refuse a good payday anywhere. But Eubank had a hell of a lot of great fighters he could have squared off against if he left the UK. Nunn, Toney, Jones, McCallum, a Steve Collins fight could have been made without doing so... There were a lot more world class opponents around MW/SMW in those days, and Eubank would have probably been the underdog against any of the best American fighters. I totally agree, i think its a shame it has taken Calzaghe ten years to really get recognition he deserves hopefully we can see 2/3 more world class fights for him before he retires.

But really Joe's era was so shit, who was there to fight?? Roy Jones would have been dangerous as fuck if Joe could get him to open up, but apart from that I don't recall any 'dangerous' fighters about, and Byron Mitchell is certainly no Benn, Barkley or McClellan.

Sheika, Brewer, Mitchell, these guys aren't dangerous. Nothing compared to Barkley, McClellan, Watson, Eubank, even Wharton.
When I think about it Nigel Benn fought such better fighters than Joe. Are Reid and Woodhall Eubank and Watson? I think not. Is Jeff Lacy even Anthony Logan? Barely. Are Sheika and Brewer Doug DeWitt? Could Sheika and Brewer give a peak Tommy Hearns a difficult night and look like a world-beater against Robbie Sims and Matt Hilton?
Kessler is the first really decent fighter he's fought, considering Eubank's work was very groggy against Joe.

Im sorry Starr i respect your posts usually, but that is quite a short sighted responce, please tell me what British fighter was on Nigel Benns level when Joe has been around??? If Benn had been American do you think he would of ever fought Eubank would he balls have, the fact that you had two World Class fighters from the same country in the same era in the same weight class was very fortunate, come on who could Joe have fought? He fought the two best British fighters that were World Class Robin Reid and Ritchie Woodhall. If Joe was about then he would of fought Benn without a doubt.
