*Poll* Hopkins - Wright (Who you think Won the fight)
Who did you have winning the fight and include your score or general jist of your score if you can..
I had hopkins Up by two as i had the same card as lederman aside from i though Hopkins won the third and fourth rounds..
I thought that harolds frustration with the fight was clouding his judgement in places and was taking away from hopkins what imo was the busier and more skillful fighting on the night..

Re: *Poll* Hopkins - Wright (Who you think Won the fight)
Clearly Hopkins thoug I only had it by 2 points .
He totally sussed out Winkys style , beat him to th epunch , grabbed on , truned him landed a flurry and moved away again . Winky was stuck in the mud and was very tired late on . Looked like he was guna collapse in the 12th . After the last 2 rounds there could be no question Nard deserved it .
Winky did well but he should fight at light heavy again . He was far too slow and looked clumsy the longer it went on . He was clearly struggling to catch his breath and Although he was able to match Hopkins up until the 10th he just didnt have it in the tank to finish strong . No shame though in losing to possibly the best fighter of the modern era .

Re: *Poll* Hopkins - Wright (Who you think Won the fight)
I gave it to Hopkins for sure but I had a real scary feeling that the judges were gonna go the other way, glad they got this one right and gave Hopkins not only the win but a UD. Well deserved!

Re: *Poll* Hopkins - Wright (Who you think Won the fight)
Hopkins won (the dirty bastard that he is) by 2 maybe 3 rounds. Frustrating fight for Winky as Hopkin's use of the head and all the holding seemed to piss him right off. But yeah Hopkins clearly won.

Funny part of all that is Hopkins said he would do all of those things before the fight...Not outright but he did say he will fight rough.....
Hopkins is not really a dirty fighter just a master of every trick in the book.....Ever watch fights from the 50's and 60's?......
Those guys were dirty

Re: *Poll* Hopkins - Wright (Who you think Won the fight)
I scored it 116-112 in favour of Hopkins. It was an ugly fight and many of the rounds were awkward to score. I watched the fight this morning and going through individual rounds is too difficult unless I watch it again.
Ive seen the fight once and felt confident enough to say Hopkins by two. Hopkins definately finished the stronger of the two.
-
Re: *Poll* Hopkins - Wright (Who you think Won the fight)
I think the head use just comes with hopkins' style tbh..
And although the holding was bad from Bernard early i feel the momentum shifted and it was in fact winky who was to blame for alot of holding in the latter rounds

Re: *Poll* Hopkins - Wright (Who you think Won the fight)
I wanna know who the muppets are that scored the fight for Winky...
I have no time for Hopkins but he clearly won the fight by 2 or 3 rounds.
Winky was mad to take that fight at 170. He's never fought above 160 so he takes on Hopkins at 170. He looked flabby to be honest. Also disagree with his fight plan of taking the fight to Hopkins. I think his plan was to make Hopkins work harder by fighting 3 minutes every round (something B-Hop hasn't done for a while). Trouble is Winky couldn't do it either carrying the extra weight. Winky should have done NOTHING but be defensive and counter Hopkins for the first 4 or 5 and frustrate the hell out of Hopkins. Easier said than done - Hopkins is the master of breaking opponents psychologically. The fracas at the weigh in, all the shit talk - all done purely to make Winky more aggressive. AND IT WORKED...
And does Winky know how to piss and moan about a decision??
Jeez Wink, you are a great fighter but you got beat. No get your cut fixed, cash your cheque and get over it.

I think he may likely fight at 168 from now on..
But also with regards to his shape its been a long time since he was any where near ripped..
Its because his training is never quite as intense as it could be but it is effective and he makes up for it in talent..
He has naturally big shoulders and long arms and i think he could fill out to be a genuine light heavyweight in time and it would work for him as thats where i imagine he would finish his career..
But yea.. I think the only time he was particularly thin was at light middleweight
-
Re: *Poll* Hopkins - Wright (Who you think Won the fight)
168 could be good for him - a Mundine matchup would be intriguing, as would fights with either Kessler or Calzaghe. Still think he'd be better suited to 160 though...
-
Re: *Poll* Hopkins - Wright (Who you think Won the fight)
Winky wuz robbed. I can't believe most are seeing this the other way. I didn't realize punches that get blocked count so much to you guys.
Hopkins is a dirty fighter and he can't be effective without doing so. It's evident in every fight he's involved in. Winky backed him down all night and blocked about 90% of hopkins shots while beind effectively aggresive and he still had this fight taken away from him.
Seriously......what does Wright have to do to win a decision against a top guy?

One thing that interests me with Winky is the fact he rarely fights for titles etc..Well..He does fight for them i suppose..
But he was undisputed light middle.. Then prob should have become lineal Middle after the jermain fight but fell short.. Fell a bit short tonight..But yet winky has a bigger reputation then most champs or alot of unified champs.. And it'd be nice to see him own a few more belts and maybe unify and defend so he has a little something to defend and to put on the record..

Are you saying Winky landed more than Hopkins? I remember Winky missing a hell of a lot of shots, more than I thought he would.

He definitely landed more than hopkins. It was clear as day but alot of those flurries that hopkins threw must have made people think something was landing.
It is like saying DLH beat floyd just cause he was throwing wild flurries at him and as nuch as I wanted to see floyd lose that night, I know he won. Just like I know Winky won last night.
-
Re: *Poll* Hopkins - Wright (Who you think Won the fight)
It was a horrible fight, thankfully their were 2 great undercards. When was the ref planning on taking points away for holding, because that's what was going on for 80% of the fight!! I mean please, I give Winky credit for stepping up but everytime he got close Hop hugged him. People say Hatton holds; well I saw more holding and headbutting from B-Hop last night than I have seen Hatton do his whole career. The ref should have had to make weight because he was busier than the other 2. More hype for a b.s. fight; and the ref needs to get fired as he was more interested in talking to the fighters than doing his job. The crowd wasn't booing just to hear themselves, that's for sure. Again, credit to Winky for trying, and he should have won the fight, especially if all those points that should have been taken away for holding would have been taken away.

Punchstat had Winky landing more total, Hopkins landing way more power shots. I agree most of those flurries were blocked. I had Winky ahead by one and losing most of the championship rounds.

Gotta agree there.
I had the fight 116-112. I thought it was a good fight.

Re: *Poll* Hopkins - Wright (Who you think Won the fight)
I had B-Hop winning it by 2 rounds
-
Re: *Poll* Hopkins - Wright (Who you think Won the fight)
i actually had Hopkins up by one, and could have understood a draw...I don't think the fight was won by the margin they had it.
Hopkins was lucky he didnt get a point taken away, but by the score cards it looked like it wouldn't have mattered.
BTW I think Winky blocked a good majority of Hopkins' shots

Tell you what though..
When i saw that Harold Lederman had it a draw i knew there was no way Bernard was loosing that fight..
Harold was pretty harsh towards scoring bernard in the fight and if he managed to argue a draw i was confident..
Lol..On a diff note ive just realised something utterly silly..!!

Re: *Poll* Hopkins - Wright (Who you think Won the fight)
I had it 116-113 for B Hop, but many of those rounds could of gone the other way. Very tough fight to score, and I thought it was a bit dull with all the holding
-
Re: *Poll* Hopkins - Wright (Who you think Won the fight)
I had Winky up 6-5 going into the final round, and he just looked totally gassed. Bhop took the 12th easily. I thought it could have gone either way really, but i scored it a draw. I saw the punch stats after the fight, and I don't see how they had BHop landing so many power shots. Do they count the rabbit punches during the clinch or something ??? I think these two could fight each other 50 times and all 50 times will look exactly like last night.
-
Re: *Poll* Hopkins - Wright (Who you think Won the fight)
I had Hopkins just ahead. A draw would not have surprised me though. The judges scores had me surprised though, it was much closer than that surely?
-
I don't think Wright showed all that bad.
Sure I had him losing by one or two rounds, and Hopkins' footspeed and footwork gave him far more problems than I thought they would. In Ronald's defense he made Bernard miss most of his punches(Hopkins' quick flurries were almost all blocked) He couldn't cover the distance to use his jab as well as he did against Trinidad and Taylor, but he did find that straight left a number of times against the tricky Executioner. I think that technically this fight was pretty even, but as always Bernard punching more gave him the nod. The problem I've always had with Winky's defense is its horrible for counter punching. I never thought Bernard would be able to counter Winky, but he did because Winky drops his hand after he throws the jab. Despite that I thought it was a great fight and I liked it more than WIlliams-Margarito which didn't have the same quality in skill.
-
Re: *Poll* Hopkins - Wright (Who you think Won the fight)
poor winky, i feel like he always get robed, i can a draw but i had winky wining 7 to 5, so i dont know what u want to call it but i think hopkins didnt desrve the win, i say if they fought at 160 winky wouldve taken him
-
Re: I don't think Wright showed all that bad.
Winky is a great fighter. He goes WAY north of his weightclass to fight a bigger guy that's a definite hall of famer. He lost a decision in a fight that he put all of his cards on the table. Nothing to be ashamed of. Much respect to Winky.
-
Re: *Poll* Hopkins - Wright (Who you think Won the fight)
Hopkins won it 116-112 in my book. Worst you could have it was 115-113 for Hopkins. Winky got taken out of his gameplan with Hopkins head butt and rough housing. Bernard is THE MAN, but I question if this mediocre fight was worth coming back for. It certainly was not as good as Hopkins' domination of Antonio Tarver. But in a way this was kinda like a high profile tune up fight for Hopkins b4 he takes on Calzaghe or some other huge name out there.

Meanining I saw Winky 115 to 113. But clearly it could have gone either way but the scrore cards of the judges where pure BS

Re: *Poll* Hopkins - Wright (Who you think Won the fight)
Hopkins 115 - 113
Some close rounds though...
-
Re: *Poll* Hopkins - Wright (Who you think Won the fight)
man,
this is going to sound cliche but, this is probably one of the worst judged fights i have ever witness'd in my life.
i had it a draw, and if it went to anyone, it went to winky. But i could of understood a draw.
but jesus christ 116-112 x2, and 117-111?
That is downright idiotic. It was the battle of the "previously screwed" fighters, and they gave it to hopkins. That was outrageous.

Why is it (the scores) idiotic?
If 2 guys fight in a 12 round fight & every round is very close then a score of 120-108 is not even out of the question. I'm not talking about this fight in particular, but the close rounds of any fight has to go to somebody. When rounds are close the judges don't just take turns giving the rounds from one guy to the other to intentionally make the scorecards reflect a close fight. The judge will give each/every round to the guy that did a little more in his opinion.
As I'm sure that everyone on this forum knows/understands the fights are scored round by round. Like I posted before, A blowout that leads to a legitamate robbery is one thing. But close rounds that the judges prefer one guys work over the other can hardly be condemned IMO.

Re: *Poll* Hopkins - Wright (Who you think Won the fight)
I had it 114-114. I had Wright winning going into the last which I gave to Hopkins. Honestly though, if I had to pick a winner, I'd have probably gone with Winky. I felt he hit with cleaner punches and alot of Hopkins shots were blocked. It was close. I was disgusted with the wide scoring.
-
Re: *Poll* Hopkins - Wright (Who you think Won the fight)
In my opinion Hopkins won 7 rounds to 5. He fought smart if a bit ugly and nullified Wrights jab. He would not be able to beat Galzaghe using this strategy.
