Has Golden Boy inked Ricky Hatton?

On December 8, 2007 undefeated pound for pound Picasso Floyd Mayweather Jr will face undefeated junior welterweight champion Ricky Hatton. Mayweather told Boxingtalk.com, "I'm glad he stepped up. You know what they say? Be careful what you wish for, well he's going to get it." HBO PPV will televise. The bout will take place in Las Vegas, Nevada at the Mandalay Bay or MGM Grand for Mayweather's welterweight championship. Mayweather promotions and Golden Boy Promotions will co-promote the event. Golden Boy CEO Richard Schaeffer was unavailable for immediate comment, but one has to wonder if Golden Boy Promotions has inked the Pride of Manchester since it has no promotional contract with Mayweather. I'm excited about this fight. I like Hatton and I'll be cheering for him, but I think Floyd is going to hand him his first loss.

This is the best fight out there for Ricky, i mean if you are going to cement your place in history you have to fight the very best and Floyd is at the moment the best.
I personally think Hatton has more chance of beating Floyd than he would have of beating Cotto.
and he may suprise a few.

Floyd by points .. I don't see hatton doing anything DLH couldn't as far as pressure goes. Only chance Hatton has is if he connects with a few good shots EARLY and often, and it could end up like a mayweather/castillo fight, but i don't see that happening.

Mayweather will be the obvious favorite, but I give Hatton every chance of putting up an excellent showing and wouldnt be overtly shocked if he pulls it off.

Heart says Hatton, head says Mayweather. If Ricky is going to win he needs to do what he did to Tszyu. A good boxer always beats a good fighter though and Floyd's boxing ability is a class above anybody else right now.

Hatton will be looking to get floyd on the ropes and go to the body i think he will have more success than when De la Hoya had PBF on the ropes.Hatton is better at pressuring a fighter than Oscar.I think Hatton will give PFB alot of problems but not sure he can do it enough to win a points decision.I dont see this fight as a walk in the park for Mayweather like alot of people do but i could be wrong have to wait and see lol.

I can see Floyd cutting Rickys eyes up and working on them for a stoppage win by 9.

I can see Hatton finishing the job JLC started years ago and pressuring Mayweather around the ring for a points win.

I can see Pretty Boy boxing beautifully to win an fairly easy decision (8-4).

I can see the Hitman landing huge body blows to be the first to stop PBF.

I see dead people.

Anyway, I'd have Floyd winning 7 times out of 10. But anything can happen in this one. Hope its really on. Mandalay will be crazy that night.

Have you seen the way Mayweather trains?? ???
Ricky can train like 'a mad little fucker' all he wants for this fight but PBF is the hardest training pro out there regardless of who his opponent is so Hatton's training intensity for this fight is a non factor IMO

I have a feeling you're going to be hearing a lot more of the 'protected' talk once this fight is over (if the fight goes how I imagine it to go) I think Floyd will expose the fact that Hatton has been protected for most of his career. Still I can't hate on Ricky, he has a hell of a lot more balls than Calzaghe and he made a personal choice to leave Frank Warren to pursue his legacy and make bigger, more difficult fights. He has to be respected for that. However, he needs another performance like the Kostya performance to make this even slightly competitive imo against a student of the game like Floyd. We'll see, its exciting just thinking about it!

Hatton has made a big mistake fighting Floyd now he should have fought someone like judah first to get use to the speed mayweather has coming off the back of a tune up against a Castillo who a at best a shell of his former self isn't exactly the best preparation for fighting the best fighter out there. Floyd on the other hand took on Oscar and got some good experience fighting against pressure. The only chance Hatton has of beating PBF is if mayweather leaves behind his jab and trys to trade with Hatton which i cant see happening. I see mayweather poping his jab in hattons face and moving all night long getting the UD

I like Ricky and have been a big fan of his since I seen him fight Emmon Magee...IMO he is a nice guy who puts a good image on boxing.....I am also one of Floyds biggest detractors but when having to be honest here....

Hatton made a mistake...Calling out Floyd is one thing buy he has made some insulting remarks about him...EG The comments about his fight with Castillo being more exciting then Mayweathers whole career.....

Say what you want but IMO it is not wise to make a guy who is ranked #1 P4P in the world who has the skill of Floyd angry.....If Floyd feels he is fighting for pride not legacy it will elevate his game to a new level....

Tooo much speed....the combos.....he willl flurry Hatton and get out before Ricky knows what hit him.....

I don't think Floyd will knockout Hatton IMO he will do his best to embaress him by making him look out classed and overmatched.......

Being objective it would appear that Floyd would be the easy choice for this fight, But naturally it's difficult to be objective when taking into account the two personalities involved. This mentality has forced me to quickly compile reasons that Hatton has a shot:

1) Oscar gave Floyd a tough fight: Oscar was old! Ricky although not as heavy a puncher can set a pace Oscar could not maintain for an entire round. Ricky is just a lot fitter and naturally a more aggresive fighter than Oscar. Perhaps he can use this style to force floyd straight back.

2)Castillo: I'm not placing emphasis on the fact Ricky beat Castillo quicker, not only were the fights years apart, styles make fights and Castillos style suited rick' better. What i am concerntrating on is that (unofficially) Castillo beat Floyd the first time, through bodyshots, and Floyd religiously trains his abdomen daily, perhaps indicating that he has a distaste for hooks of the lower variety. Even Hatton's greatest detractors cannot deny Hatton's bodywork is exceptional.

3)Size: Floyd is accustomed to fighting boxers of a gtreater height than himself. In the past this has been seen as Floyd being brave stepping up to the bigger man, but in reality a taller guy is easier for floyd as they are easier to slip as Floyd does so well. However, when Floyd uses this slip to the right against Hatton he will still be in Hattons range as Rick' is lower than say Oscar, Castillo, Corralles and Judah. Being short may be an advantage.

Look i could keep goin on all day, but we won't no anything for sure til' fight night so i wont make you guys endure my ramblings any longer............

Great analysis..I do however think it was a double-edged sword for Hatton calling out Mayweather. In one way he HAD to do it to get Floyds attention. Floyd himself says 'a closed mouth don't get fed' but in doing so Hatton has now angered Floyd to the point where it seems likely he will do to Hatton what you (and I) believe he did to Gatti etc (not comparing Ricky to Gatti)
So my point basically is he had to either get the angry, motivated, best version of Floyd by making derogatory remarks about him or not get Floyd at all. The choice was his and we all know what he chose :)

If Hatton wins he will be the best fighter out there considering whats stacked against him, the weight is not an issue the reason hatton struggled aginst collazo is because he was a big guy, floyd wont pose that problem . Hatton is going to have to cope with mayweather's speed (reflexes and hand speed), movement, water tight defense and most importantly the reach advantage. Floyd may not be the hardest hitter out there but he is phenomenally accurate and couple that with the reach advantage he can do a lot of damage to hattons face which is not shy when it come to getting cut.

True but this is also how Hatton got his fight with Tszyu he called him out on several occasions....Though the version of Kostya was not that of the current Mayweather...No matter what it will be a good fight worth the price of the ticket

What weight wil the fight be at ?

I think it's great IF they do get it on and there is no messing about like there normally is when getting the big fights on.

Both are in their prime.
Both are unbeaten.
Both are coming off the biggest wins in there career (I think Hatton's Castillo win had more impact than his Tysu win)
One is white, the other black.
One is brit other is a yank.

It is got everything. To me it's the biggest fight since. Hagler Vs Leonard.

I'm glad to hear that this fight is in the works.

Wouldn't be great to see the winner of Cotto - Mosley (if occurs) facing the winner of Hatton - Mayweather?

I like Ricky alot, and believe he is one of the good guys of the sport, a great ambassador and down to earth being as approachable as you could ever expect a star to be..

But Floyd is in a whole other league, I get frustrated with the Majority of 20 post jonnies here that support Hatton and trash Floyd. Even the most Zealous Mayweather fan will credit Ricky at the end of the day for his determination and attitude.

People who will call Floyd all Hype, you fukwits know who you are ::** is just plain dumb PERIOD!!!!!!! if he is all hype than he must have all the RESPECTED writers, sanctioning bodies and Ring Magazine Buffaloed then since they have him rated #1 PFP fighter in Boxing....
