Byrd, Brock, Povetkin, and Eddie Chambers in tourney to be Wlad's mandatory
This could be interesting, but only really because of Povetkin and Chambers.
Seriously, if Byrd wins this and gets to fight Wlad again, ooh the suspense :D
Same for Brock really although theoretically I guess he's got enough power to get lucky against Wlad.
But Povetkin makes it interesting. They are really moving him fast, but he was apparently one of the best amateurs in a while. But he's only got like 15 fights, right? That would mean he could be fighting Wlad with 17 fights, assuming he managed to get by.
And at least Eddie Chambers is not Byrd or Brock. Lyle seems to like him ???
The matchups will be Povetkin-Byrd and Brock-Chambers, winners fight each other and then will be the IBF mandatory for Wlad. Although I guess technically Wlad wouldn't have to fight the mandatory, although it could look bad possibly.
This is all according to fightnews.

Re: Byrd, Brock, Povetkin, and Eddie Chambers in tourney to be Wlad's mandatory
Well since its gonna be povetkin and chambers in the finals due to the pairings, who do you think is gonna be the winner of that one?

I don't know, I don't really know enough about either. I saw Chambers against some dude that started boxing after he played college football. I guess he looked good, good enough, I mean its hard to say, the other guy wasn't on his level. I guess Povetkin's got more hype, but I've only seen him once too.
God I hope its not Byrd-Brock in the final.

Re: Byrd, Brock, Povetkin, and Eddie Chambers in tourney to be Wlad's mandatory
i dont care
but calvin brock leave while you still can
but he did do ok till wlad to start putting the right on him

They'll both lose in their matchups don't worry

rahman's just a crap as byrd and brock.

Re: Byrd, Brock, Povetkin, and Eddie Chambers in tourney to be Wlad's mandatory
No Rahman, its already bad enough.
Eh, I'm not upset with the whole thing, well get to see if the two young guys are any good. If it ends up being Byrd or Brock going through to fight Wlad, I just won't watch the fight. Not the end of the world.

Re: Byrd, Brock, Povetkin, and Eddie Chambers in tourney to be Wlad's mandatory
And Wlad will actually have a chance to redeem himself with me slightly if Byrd manages to find a way to win the tourney and that is to absolutely refuse to fight the mandatory. If he goes ahead with a mandatory with Byrd he just sucks at life.
-
Re: Byrd, Brock, Povetkin, and Eddie Chambers in tourney to be Wlad's mandatory
Sasha will win this tour without losing any rounds. Chambers has nothing to do in this tour.
-
Re: Byrd, Brock, Povetkin, and Eddie Chambers in tourney to be Wlad's mandatory
It's cool as long as it doesn't turn out to be Brock or Byrd. Wlad flattened both of those chumps and should bulk if asked to fight them again.

Re: Byrd, Brock, Povetkin, and Eddie Chambers in tourney to be Wlad's mandatory
I would rather see Wlad face the winner of Chagaev-Ibragimov....
The rest could fight eachother for a shot at the winner of that....

As a matter of fact if wlad's next fight isn't a unification match, i'm abandoning him all thogether as the "future" of the heavyweights.
-
Re: Byrd, Brock, Povetkin, and Eddie Chambers in tourney to be Wlad's mandatory
None of those four represent a real threat to Wlad imo. Brock already got his ass laid out, as did Byrd. That leaves Chambers and Povetkin. Chambers is another Chris Byrd, good skills but too small to challenge Wlad and Povetkin is probably too early in his development.
The most difficult fight for Wlad imo outside of Sam Peter is Tony Thompson. At 6 ft 4 he's big enough, he's got the skills and he has the fight experience.
I'd rather see him get a shot ahead of those 4 other guys especially seeing as two of them have already had their chances and the other two are still only prospects at present,
Thompson is 35, been around a while and has earned his shot.

I was actually just thinking about making a thread about this. CC. The guy never gets talked about. If what's his name, the big clumsy guy that fought Wlad two times ago can get a shot, why not Thompson. This might not say good things about American heavyweights but he might be the best out there and nobody mentions him.
You're probably right about the other guys. I guess Povetkin is the only real wild card.

i rather seerahman get laid out
but this make no sense
shii
eddie chambers havent proven much to me

Question....What exactly is Wlad doing in the mean time?

I don't think many Heavys wanna mix it up with Thompson cause hes a high risk, low reward fighter.
He's beaten some decent names but hasn't made much noise off the wins.
So I really don't see any one of the top guys fighting Thompson unless he becomes someones mandatory :beat:

His win over Krusneqi was a WBO eliminator so I'm guessing he's Ibragimov's mandatory. If so he probably gets a shot at the winner of Ibragimov Chagaev and if so imo he goes from an unknown to holding two belts overnight.
Then Wlad would have to fight him pretty much and a win there could leave Thompson as the universally recognised undispited heavyweight champion of the world.
Stranger things have happened........

Re: Byrd, Brock, Povetkin, and Eddie Chambers in tourney to be Wlad's mandatory
Anybody watch Chazz Witherspoon be less than impressive last night? I always forget the kids name, but the young up and coming cruiser is talking about jumping to HW and has had 1-2 fights here and there in the HW division lately. Might end up being a player

Great question, he seems to talk a lot about unifying the titles, but somehow the other two Russians, who's names I'm not even going to try to spell, are getting it done. I don't think this IBF tournament is a done deal yet either. We need a Heavyweight Unifiacation Tournament. Not a friggin IBF tournament

IBF tournament- Povetkin, Chambers, Brock, & Bryd
From Dan Rafael of ESPN
http://sports.espn.go.com/sports/box...dan&id=2959700
In a search for heavyweight titleholder Wladimir Klitschko's next mandatory challenger, the IBF plans to sanction a four-man tournament with the winner earning a title shot. If the IBF has its way, the field will include Calvin Brock (31-1, 23 KOs) and former titlist Chris Byrd (40-3-1, 21 KOs), both of whom were knocked out by Klitschko last year, along with American up-and-comer Eddie Chambers (29-0, 16 KOs) and Alexander Povetkin (13-0, 9 KOs), the 2004 Russian Olympic gold medalist. If the proposed fights come off -- which is certainly not set in stone -- Byrd would face Povetkin with Brock facing Chambers. The winners will fight with that winner earning a fight with Klitschko. Chambers and Povetkin are all for it. "This is the opportunity I've been looking for," Chambers said. "It's sort of like the NFL playoffs. Win a couple of rounds and get to the Super Bowl against Wladimir Klitschko. That's just what I intend to do -- not only get to the Super Bowl, but win it too, a world heavyweight title. But my focus and attention right now is preparing for my semifinal opponent, Calvin Brock." Said Kalle Sauerland, Povetkin's co-manager: "This is the chance Alexander has been waiting for. We have no doubt he will prevail in this interesting tournament."

Re: IBF tournament- Povetkin, Chambers, Brock, & Bryd
i just wana tell people i alway get my prediction rite and eddie chamber will come out on top as he scratches a decion again povetkin
a robbery decision will be another issue
-
Re: IBF tournament- Povetkin, Chambers, Brock, & Bryd
For the good of the division I really hope that it is Povetkin and Chambers that come out of this tournament with plenty of credit, and either of those winning a title shot would be good, because Brock and Byrd have already, for my money, been exposed as not quite good enough.
-
Re: IBF tournament- Povetkin, Chambers, Brock, & Bryd
So good match-ups. I would have preferred to see the younger guys fight one of the experienced guys 1st. Then if they were victorious there Povetkin & Chambers could have meet to see who fights Klitschko.
Anyone know what Wlad is doing during this time? Chagaev may now be free as he pulled out of his bout with Ibragimov. Most of the top heavies seem to be tied up, don't know who's gonna be available to fight Wlad!
-
Re: IBF tournament- Povetkin, Chambers, Brock, & Bryd
Byrd or Brock should be replaced by Thompson

True that... at least he ain't been KO'd by big Wlad. Thompson would defeat both Byrd & Brock IMO

Re: Byrd, Brock, Povetkin, and Eddie Chambers in tourney to be Wlad's mandatory
So we've got 1 winner so far.
Povetkin vs. winner of Brock-Chambers
-
Re: Byrd, Brock, Povetkin, and Eddie Chambers in tourney to be Wlad's mandatory
I think it's a good way of cleaning out the division of unworthy contenders & more challenges should be formed this way. Thing for me is I'd prefer to see Wlad fight Ibragimov 1st & then maybe the Maskaev/ Peter winner. Plus only one guy coming in was rated in the rings top 10 & that was Byrd @ #8. Now Povetkin is in. So at least the winner of the tournament will be ranked within the top 10.
