Re: Floyd Mayweather Jr vs Emanuel Augustus Slugfest
That was a hell of a fight while it lasted....I think it was over in the 9th if I am not mistaken....
Floyd has stated on several occasions that Augustus is the hardest fight he has ever had

I see it for first time i was suprised how Floyd stood and traded like that but he was still able to dodge alot with his great defensive skills but anyone who says Floyd can't slug hasn't seen this fight great action any Mayweather fan or even Mayweather haters should see this.

the only people saying that, are the ones that haven't see Mayweather fight at 140 and below. He even knocked out Sharmaba Mitchell at 147 and was real close to knocking out Judah until that whole "incident," happened. (also at 147)
Mayweather is a a natural lightweight and is now beating guys way outside of his natural weight. He doesnt stand there and trade shots like other guys try to do when they go up too far. This is what the haters (ufc blood and guts fans) are always complaining about.
As for the augustus fight...............
I've seen the fight many times but didn't watch the vids that ICB posted.
Mayweather has said in the past that Augustus was by far his toughest fight. I think that a lot of that had to do with Emanuel constant shit talking and taunting.
It was a young Mayweather and Augustus's taunting threw PBF out of his game plan, imo.
Did the vids show how Augustus broke Mayweather's nose?? :o

Re: Floyd Mayweather Jr vs Emanuel Augustus Slugfest
it's not just ufc fans that like to watch boxers stand ad trade shots in boxing
we all like seperate styles of boxing thts all ;D

I totally agree i've seen quite a few of his fights at 140 and below and im very impressed if you notice in this fight how Augustus is throwing tons of punches like 60+ but yet he is only landing like 9 of them Mayweather is excellent fighter i enjoyed his masterclass over Corrales infact i enjoy alot of Mayweathers fights he is like poetry in motion to watch im sick of all this crap people keep saying about Mayweather he does talk some shit but its only to hype the fight and he backs alot of it up anyway i can't believe people thought he ducked Margarito he isn't scared of no one he went up to Oscar's weight and outboxed him and he is now fighting Hatton i think people need to give Mayweather his props i find him exciting to watch because he is so good bit like Roy Jones Jr watching Jones beat guys down with wonderful skill is great to watch similar to Mayweather all i can say is when he is retired he will be up there with the greats such as Leonard, Whitaker, ect mark my words he will theres no way a talent like this won't be.

Same to you.
It would be hella boring if there were no debates, or if the people you debated with couldn't ever back up their arguements. (or even try to)

Re: Floyd Mayweather Jr vs Emanuel Augustus Slugfest
Definetly was an exciting fight... But there's really no way this was a tougher fight for Mayweather than Castillo, or even Chavez... Though I'm not actually sure I think this fight was before both of those? So I could see why Maywaether said that then.. You know he's damn good though, when in one of his "toughest" fights... His opponent really only lands a couple of punches worth noting. The first time I saw this fight I was actually a bit let down because I'd heard so much about how Augustus gave him fits and made him bleed.... In reality I was waiting for about 10 minutes until he landed one shot and that was the one that drew blood, and the only reallly damaging shot from Emanuel in the whole fight.

Re: Floyd Mayweather Jr vs Emanuel Augustus Slugfest
PBF can slug it out. i just don't like him doing it at the higher weights. it was cool when he did it at 130 and at 135.

Wait a minute!
Okay i have to admit, it really threw me the 1st time i came across this...
The 1st time i see him fight was against another Burton, Courtney. Although he was An Augustus by that time.
The next time i see Emmanuell fight it was against a guy id never heard of (Mickey Ward) and i had no idea the footage was actually from like 3 years previous so i was convinced ESPN had made a Typo cock-up and given him his last opponents Surname?!
It happens ::**

Re: Floyd Mayweather Jr vs Emanuel Augustus Slugfest
...that's why when people hate pbf as a person i understand but when people start to grasp at straws and knock how he fights it's just plain silly to me, pbf can slug, outbox, out think, out speed, out defend etc.....any fighter out there right now and that's just the way it is for right now. His power goes away dramaticly as he moves up in weight so he'll fight a different style and potshot more but that's a lot smarter than trying to slug with the bigger guys when you are at a disadvantage kinda like how gatti tried to do with baldomir....anyhow good video........
-
Re: Floyd Mayweather Jr vs Emanuel Augustus Slugfest
Im not a massive Mayweather fan but I have to admit the guy is so slick defensively, the shoulder rolls and movement make him vertually impossible to land full shots on and in trying all you get is counter right hands hitting you back.

Totally agree.

Re: Floyd Mayweather Jr vs Emanuel Augustus Slugfest
Most of Floyd's fights have been entertaining. He's generally not as cautious as people make him out to be, besides fights like Castillo 2, Baldomir, maybe Oscar he usually is very entertaining. And I don't mind watching him even in fights like that but I guess I can see why some might think he was boring. Ok the Baldomir fight was a little boring ;D But other than that I find him to be one of the most exciting fighters out there.
He may be a bit obnoxious outside of the ring which obviously annoys some people but for the most part I don't agree with criticism of his fighting style. He doesn't "run" his way to wins, that's idiotic. He doesn't hold much, the only thing he does that's a bit illegal is using his left elbow to push off when he's inside but that's not that bad.
The only thing about a guy like him that I get a bit bored with is in a lot of his fights before there was no suspense, you knew he was gonna win. Being totally dominant can get a bit boring after a while, at least to me, but I think that's becoming a bit less of the case as he's moved up.

That fight was years ago though Mayweather has improved since that fight.

Re: Floyd Mayweather Jr vs Emanuel Augustus Slugfest
to me that fight
was a young mayweather trying to prove that he can beat at his own game

Ya i always thought that was dodgy. The only time i see an ref pick up on it was during the 1st Castillo fight.
One thing that he's stoped doing alot, if not completely is whiping in that horrid upercut in close. Obviously as the guys have got bigger, he dosent want them that close.
Wonder if a relatively smaller Ricky will get a dose of that old uppercut?
