Penalosa - Another Cinderalla Man
After 10 years and past his prime, Gerry "Fearless" Penalosa again is a world Champion from a perfectly timed body shot to Johnny Gonzales. Nobody gave him a chance but veterans prove time and again that they always have something up their sleeves(gloves for that matter).
Gerry semi-retired when his father died who's also a fighter as well as his brother Dodie Boy Penalosa(Only World Champ who was a Polio victim). And after failed attempts at the belt a couple of times he again is one of the champs Congratulations Gerry, 2 or 3 more fights then call it quits.

Re: Penalosa - Another Cinderalla Man
yea Gerry is a great guy, and a execellent veteran of the game. Hopefully we see more great match up like todays and gerry should be in it again.

Re: Penalosa - Another Cinderalla Man
Gerry Penelosa is a warrior. All of his losses are questionable and were close and he just keeps coming. Very skilled, tremendously tough,a superb fighter. I really like him and hope he does well in the future, there are some great match ups to be made for him.

Re: Penalosa - Another Cinderalla Man
I like Penalosa's dedication to boxing. Many were doubtful of his ability to come back. Well, Gerry proved them wrong. Congrats Gerry.

Re: Penalosa - Another Cinderalla Man
he is well disciplined on and off boxing, he has no vices he is clean living his conditioning is superb he can actually take a fight at a seconds notice and will still last 12rds.

Re: Penalosa - Another Cinderalla Man
Philippines and Mexico are like long lost relatives. If we are going to trace back history, the Philippines and Mexico are like brothers during the Spanish colonization. The two countries are also greatly influenced by the US.
Both countries have people with great courage. No wonder, the two countries excel in boxing.

hey mick i was wondering where you were man. I was rooting for gerry no doubt but I thought jonny would of won.
Both gerry and de leon prove me wrong last night, good win for both of them. Remember our debate about boom boom and de leon, i was backing up boom boom endlessly but I was mentioning how I didn't like goldenby for sending him against someone dangerous like de leon at this age. Although philippines won the cup, De Leon destroyed the philippines baby boy bautista before he can grow into a beast. Great 1 round stoppage for de leon. I hope he rematch Caballero and knocks him out, I really don't like Caballero's style.

Re: Penalosa - Another Cinderalla Man
tHe poor guy seems to be truly troubled over his defeat. he is planning to retire from boxing!!! Whew, heavy psychological damage....

I've been busy with work (that's a good thing) but I'm still here.
Sat. night watched the fights then we wen't bowling my girl and I and some friends....
It was again a great night for boxing and a great showing of the sport.
Who do you think the Philipines will defend against?
It can't be Thailand.
Maybe Japan?

I still don't know how the world cup of boxing works. I didn't even know the philippines won until boomboom lost. uhmm is the winners suppose to defend the cup or do they have a new tournement each year? If philippines is suppose to defend the cup, i wouldn't mind seeing them against any country but you know what I would love to see? I'd love to see puerto rico in this world cup scene. they always have good fighters too.

Re: Penalosa - Another Cinderalla Man
The Philippines team won the tourny so they will be defending the cup again...where or when who knows.

Re: Penalosa - Another Cinderalla Man
Congrats to Gerry, even though he beat my boy,
Let's give a little credit to Gonzalez though, he
was building momentum and starting to look really
sharp with 4 and 5 punch combinations.
All the credit in the world for that liver shot though
congrats to Gerry and the Philippines.
c'mon Gerry rematch in the Philippines.........

Re: Penalosa - Another Cinderalla Man

It was a joke ;D

Re: Penalosa - Another Cinderalla Man
If you know gerry personally, you will appreciate him more. The guy is so down to earth and very humble.

Re: Penalosa - Another Cinderalla Man
prophetic words from daniel ponce de leon but jhonny didn't listen. :)
Quote:
This is the reason De Leon is advising compatriot Jhonny Gonzalez to be as cunning as possible against Penalosa, who is targeting Gonzalez's World Boxing Organization bantamweight title.
"I would tell Jhonny to work the distance properly. He's a very opportunistic fighter and very sneaky," De Leon said. "He will counterpunch you every time you miss. Watch out for those counter punches." - GMANews.TV

Re: Penalosa - Another Cinderalla Man
I would not go as far as to call him another cinderella man....He was the underdog yes but when put into perspective.....He is a former world champion with a ton of experience and a decent resume and is more then capable of hanging with anyone....He has never been KO'd....He hung in with the younger De Leon in his last fight he hung the distance with one of the sports hottest fighters......
Gonzales was also having time making weight so he was not at 100% physically...........
An upset yes.....But not to an extreme
-
Re: Penalosa - Another Cinderalla Man
agree with daxx khan baldo did basiclly being unkown to make a big boom
he was;t no bum cause he gave de leon a hard time
but thinhg like most about this figt he was losing bad and he said that he will win by ko
and it happen

Re: Penalosa - Another Cinderalla Man
penalosa really trained hard in this fight. He was very, very hungry of a win. He actually lost his last two fights before his fight with gonzales.

Those were questionable losses. What amazes about Gerry is he never been floored to canvas.
-
Re: Penalosa - Another Cinderalla Man
hmmmm. I've never thought about it. I was thinking it was natural for their weight class not to be knocked out easily.

Re: Penalosa - Another Cinderalla Man
Philippines is a very small place. When I said he is a humble man personally, I mean it. My friends one time meet him in supercat and the guy acted like he was an ordinary fellow. Compare the guy with PAcman and you will see the BIG DIFFERENCE in attitude.
