Re: Greatest Heavyweight of All-Time, Round 1: Lennox Lewis vs. Muhammed Ali
WOW!!!! :o :o
This was a tough one....I love both guys....I am ashamed to admit it...I thing Ali is the greatest HW of all time and that does not change but I went with Lennox

Re: Greatest Heavyweight of All-Time, Round 1: Lennox Lewis vs. Muhammed Ali
One thing that was Lewis,s big knightmare speed
-
Re: Greatest Heavyweight of All-Time, Round 1: Lennox Lewis vs. Muhammed Ali
Ali by decision based on Lewis struggling with fighters with decent jabs like Bruno's and Ray Mercer's plus Ali's footwork would give Lewis alot of problems.
-
Re: Greatest Heavyweight of All-Time, Round 1: Lennox Lewis vs. Muhammed Ali
How come the Top 2 Heavyweights of alltime are meeting in Round 1.

Ali is going to win he always does in these tourny things hopefully people don't just go with Ali in all the match ups and actually think about it long and hard i only went with Ali in this one because Lewis struggled with with decentish jabs from Mercer and Bruno he would find it alot harder vs prime Ali.

I wouldn't call Lewis a top 2 Heavyweight either.

Re: Greatest Heavyweight of All-Time, Round 1: Lennox Lewis vs. Muhammed Ali
Ali all the way as he was the second best heavy weight of all time. Im not sure I would rank Lewis in the top five of all time. Just my 2 cents

Re: Greatest Heavyweight of All-Time, Round 1: Lennox Lewis vs. Muhammed Ali
I think Ali gets alot of sympathy votes but matched against Lewis I cant see him winning . Cooper would have knocked out a prime Cassius Clay if they didnt cheat so imagine what Lewis would have done to to him .

Yea i used to have him in my main pic but i changed it with Mayweather i have 30+ of Holmes fights and yes i did post at his site boxinggreats i was i actually made a post there about week ago Holmes don't post on it anymore so i don't really go on it only like once every month i think prime for prime Holmes would beat Ali and actually thinking about it prime for prime Lewis could beat Ali aswell infact im going to change my vote.

Re: Greatest Heavyweight of All-Time, Round 1: Lennox Lewis vs. Muhammed Ali
my god another person that thinks holmes would beat ali prime vs prime my god cc for you didn't think i find another lol
-
Re: Greatest Heavyweight of All-Time, Round 1: Lennox Lewis vs. Muhammed Ali
I can't believe that so many people think that Lewis would beat Ali.
Thank god it was my vote that got Ali to #10, because it was tied 9-9.

i totally agree. so many people say Holmes never faced a fighter like Ali but i don't think Ali ever faced a fighter like Holmes. Holmes' defense i think is very under-rated and his jab would give Ali a lot of trouble IMO.

Re: Greatest Heavyweight of All-Time, Round 1: Lennox Lewis vs. Muhammed Ali
can I choose "none of the above" :)
Lewis as an all time great? please tell me ur joking.
OK I know it's your opinion so I'll play along. Uhhhhh, I'll take Ali in this matchup. He was too slick for Lewis. If you want to see the results of Ali/Lewis all you have to do is look at the results of Ali/Foreman.
-
Re: Greatest Heavyweight of All-Time, Round 1: Lennox Lewis vs. Muhammed Ali
sorry dont think that is the right way to put it lewis may lose to ali but it will not go down like forman loses lewis is alot more accuret with his punchs and would not be easy for ali at all and if you think it would be easy you are a fool lennox was way bigger then ali and had a hell of a reach pluse the power to put ali down so think that ali would have a walk in the park
-
Re: Greatest Heavyweight of All-Time, Round 1: Lennox Lewis vs. Muhammed Ali
i made some errors my bad did't pay attention all i will say no way in hell is ali going to have a easy time with lewis
-
Re: Greatest Heavyweight of All-Time, Round 1: Lennox Lewis vs. Muhammed Ali
Nice warm up fight for Ali here as he wins as easy UD over a plodding Lewis baffled by Ali's speed and stinging Jab.

I am under the opinion that we are talking prime fighter against prime fighter. With that premis in mind, Ali should have lost to Cooper but didn't thanks to his trainer. Lennox on the other hand was put to sleep by McCall and Rahman in his prime.
I've never been an Ali supporter for greatest of all time but he was certainly good enough to beat someone the likes of Lewis.
-
Re: Greatest Heavyweight of All-Time, Round 1: Lennox Lewis vs. Muhammed Ali
you still dont get what i am saying dude it would be a hard fight for ali and i dont doubt he would win but not easy though
-
Re: Greatest Heavyweight of All-Time, Round 1: Lennox Lewis vs. Muhammed Ali
Lennox was GREAT, but I think stylistically Ali would outpoint him with his superior speed/jab, while keeping away from Lennox's big power.
But it would be an incredible fight... Lennox Lewis would be a hard fight for any man that ever lived
-
Re: Greatest Heavyweight of All-Time, Round 1: Lennox Lewis vs. Muhammed Ali
I like your thinking Sugar Shaw....
Here's my idea.... if the voting turns into one fighter twice as much as the other guy, it's a knockdown.
90% it's a KO. :) Get me?

Lewis was a much better skilled and a much smarter fighter then Foreman.

Re: Greatest Heavyweight of All-Time, Round 1: Lennox Lewis vs. Muhammed Ali
I don't consider Lewis one of the greatest heavy weights of all time. Beating an undisciplined, old and sluggish tyson does not make him great. The fight may have been rigged considering how desperate Tyson was of a fight during those times.

All matches were chosen at random

Re: Greatest Heavyweight of All-Time, Round 1: Lennox Lewis vs. Muhammed Ali
Went with Lennox, i love Ali but Prime Lewis is just too good
-
Re: Greatest Heavyweight of All-Time, Round 1: Lennox Lewis vs. Muhammed Ali
Interesting debate on this one .... Lewis was a very very good fighter, big, strong and also mentally disciplined. I do think that his technique was somewhat flawed (but so was Ali's), the difference being that Lewis got caught out a few times because of it.
I went for Ali, though, and not because it is just the done thing to do. He was simply a one off in the ring, size, strength, stamina, chin, a great thinking mind and that awesome blistering speed. 70's Ali had quick hands and only used his feet sparingly, 60's Ali really did move like a bantamweight. For me, he would have started off elusively, outboxing Lewis (and making him eat that jab) until Lennox began to wind up to look for the overhand right - Ali would have been too cute to fall for that one, and I think that Prime Ali stops Lewis later on after a flurry of punches catches that exposed chin once too often?

This argument is nonsense.
1. Ali still would have beaten Cooper without the extra time to fix the glove. What have we learned about Ali's chin? He would have been fine in the next round, regardless of a slit in the glove.
2. Ali was clearly a better fighter in his next fight against Liston than he ever was before. He was clearly scared of Liston, and that fear drove him to become a better fighter. And he embarrassed listen in that fight. Made him look silly. And so you can't say Ali's prime began until the Liston fight.
3. In the first Liston fight and then every subsequent title defense until he lost his license, how many times did Ali take a clean shot to the face? You can probably count them one hand. You just couldn't hit the guy. And Lennox Lewis wouldn't have been able to hit the guy.

Re: Greatest Heavyweight of All-Time, Round 1: Lennox Lewis vs. Muhammed Ali
Dragging out a six year old thread to inform us that Ali never got hit:rolleyes:
