Boom-Boom Bautista to retire from boxing?
I've watched the news from ABS-CBN (TV Channel in the Philippines) that Boom boom BAutista is planning to retire from boxing at this early stage of his boxing career because of that loss he suffered from de leon.Is this really true? What a pity if he does plan to retire....
-
Re: Boom-Boom Bautista to retire from boxing?
wheres the link man.. but if this is indeed true, i would call boomboom a coward and a punk. nobody retires from boxing just coz u lost once.. especially if your just 21 years old and you didnt suffer any injuries.

Re: Boom-Boom Bautista to retire from boxing?
sorry man. i just heard the news from a tv station. am looking for the written news but haven't found one yet. maybe, tomorrow they will post it in their web site. nevertheless, if this is true, Boom boom is really badly damaged.... psychologically.

again, if this is true, then maybe he need to look at himself and the mirror and ask if he should really retire after one loss to one of the best, maybe p4p top 15.

Re: Boom-Boom Bautista to retire from boxing?
Ray Boom Boom Mancini was the real boom boom.

Re: Boom-Boom Bautista to retire from boxing?
No way he should retire, what if everyone retired after one loss.
It would be an entirely different story if he didn't stand a chance against anyone else at that weight,
but the fact is he could still be a force at 122 and has time on his side especially at a mere 21 years
old. I will be very dissapointed in Rey if he retires now.

Re: Boom-Boom Bautista to retire from boxing?
I don't think he'll do it. The guy is bummed out obviously, he got destroyed in the first round, thats never good for a guys confidence. But the guy is 20-21 years old. He's still a baby, he's got a lot of better times ahead of him if he sticks with it. He'll come around.
-
Re: Boom-Boom Bautista to retire from boxing?
Well I mean you haft to understand he probley train his fucken ass off for a fight this big, he had to for the fact he was finally getting a title shot to become the world champion against Daniel Ponce De Leon who proved he is a hard hitter many times before.
Rey confidence really broke down if he’s planning to retire at such a young age. Putting yourself in his shoes he must feel real devastated and can not think at the moment. Right now he just needs to let this slide by for a week or two. Think to himself if he really wants to keep going in this sport cuss the kid is good no doubt. I mean it was a major loss but I mean there is no shame losing to Daniel Ponce De Leon. So don’t just call Rey a punk or a coward cuss that’s bull. It was a confidence breaker and what he needs is to just sit and think.

Agreed. He's just embarrassed.

a radio station reported that because of Bautista's defeat, his hometown of Candijay would not be getting a paved road leading into town. Provincial Governor Erico Aumentado promised before Bautista's fight the road would be paved by 2008 if he brought home the title. On Sunday, Aumentado pushed the road-paving date back to 2010 and blamed Bautista's loss.
I'd tell the governer to stick it up moon river, fight under a different flag next time. truth be told.

I disagree. People who live vicariously thru someone else’s success or failures need to get a life.

Re: Boom-Boom Bautista to retire from boxing?
Poverty and the love for boxing sport are the main reasons why RB shouldn't quit. I mean, this guy used to be a dead poor homeless, lived in a boxing gym for a while. And now his a bread winner.
The only thing he cannot afford to do right now, is retire.
-
Re: Boom-Boom Bautista to retire from boxing?
Bautista is an exciting young fighter and I hope he does decide to return to the ring. On the other hand if he does retire I don't think it makes him a coward or any less of a man. I compare it to Tiki Barber retiring before he's crippled or sustains a serious injury. As fans it is easy to criticize these brave men who step into the ring or onto the field of play but the fact is they risk life and limb every time they show up for work, I know that isn't the case at my job so I have nothing but respect. I never understand how some people can call a fighters courage into question because he feels retiring or walking away is in his best interest. Would you feel better if he had internal bleeding, would that make him a warrior?

Re: Boom-Boom Bautista to retire from boxing?
If at this point after one loss he is even thinking about retiring....he should. Or at least step away for a long while. If he's that mentally weak boxing isn't for him. For some guys the hardest thing is to get in there after a K.O. like that...if he's questioning himself like this already i can only imagine him back in the ring for the first time after.

A coward and a punk? LOL
A lot of people retire after their first loss. I bet you think Tito is a coward too?
I doubt he is really retiring. That was by far his biggest stage and he got knocked out first round. He is feeling devastated he worked his way up and now he's got to re-prove himself again.

That governor sounds like a douche bag What a muthaf*ck! Putting all that additional pressure on a 21 year old and blaming him for losing?? F*ck him.

Re: Boom-Boom Bautista to retire from boxing?
Thats like telling people taxes are going to be increased because Paquiao losses to Barrera....I would be calling for that guy to be fired, sounds like politicians are the same the world over...Bautista just needs to do a little soul searching, maybe hes not cut out for boxing if this is making him question himself. I have a feeling this is just blown out of proportion. Some people never recover from that first loss...see Naseem Hamed for reference....

how old was tito? and what does that tell you if a fighter is 21 years old and loses for the first time then considers retiring? some people need to comprehend the situation first before they react.

I doubt rey will retire because what else will he do with his life?
and he will be dead broke back in horrible philippine poverty again.

grow up will you for fucks sake, your clueless...
Boom boom is a kid, he doesnt know how to handle humiliation yet - this kid is a prime example as to why people shouldn't slag off manager for protecting their youngster.. boom boom was putinto a match wherehe was completley out of his depth, he has been humbled in front of the watching world, and at the age of 20 thats a fucking hard thing to come back from, shit people talke aboue guys like lacy being able to come back from going 12 rounds, this kid didn't make it out of the first. And it shocks you and u think its bad he wants to retire? most people in his positon would think about it and prolly would retire... they will come out of it soon enough thats for certain, but right now ray has had his pride badly hurt, he must feel 2ft tall and thinks the whole world is laughing, the kid prolly wnats to just crawl into a hole and die... he's a cracking talent, just young and has a lot to learn - if he retires it wont be for long.
why don't think you think before you post next time.

Re: Boom-Boom Bautista to retire from boxing?
he wont retire, the news apparently came from RB's mom which hates boxing. it was all a hugs misunderstanding.
thing here in the phillippines is that people uses different dialects. somethings are often lost in translation just like in the case of RB retiring.
in the news they showed RB' speaking with his dad thru cellphone he was crying like a little kid. his dad telling him that its okay and that losing is part of boxing.

I saw the same news on TV. RB just laughed out loud during the interview. He said no way he will give up boxing.

Re: Boom-Boom Bautista to retire from boxing?
I m yself can't believe that he will be retiring because of embarassment. There was little to be embarrased with his fight. De leon was way above his talents. Period. Bautista's time will come when he will be the one knocking young boxers and world class boxers.
