Tito........ WTF are you doing?!?!?
I'm slightly drunk, so I won't mince words here. As most veteran posters know (and of course, by my nickname), I'm a total Tito fan. I've followed Tito's career from the beginning and I love the guy. He's given boxing so-o-o-o-o-o-o-o much. His fights have always been exciting to watch, and IMO, boxing misses him. He also always had that JOY while fighting, that it was hard to dislike the guy. A true Puerto Rican hero, with HOF credentials and a wonderful legacy.
Having said all that..... Tito, WTF are you thinking?!?!? Why Roy Jones Jr.? I mean, let's be honest. Tito's best weight was NOT 160 pounds. He did do better at 160 than Oscar did, but it was not his best weight. His best weight was 147, and then at 154. At 160, he seemed out of his weight. So now he's going to fight Roy Jones Jr. at 170?!?!? One of the ATG's at 175, and Tito's going to fight him at 170? That doesn't make any sense. I mean, hell.... I'm gonna be rooting for Tito as loud as I can, but man.... give me a break. There weren't any OTHER fights out there for Tito's comeback?
I would've wanted Tito-Oscar at 160, to settle an old score. Sort of like Rocky-Apollo after Rocky III. But Jones at 170? Who's brainstorm WAS this?!?
The Tito haters are going to have a feast with this one. While the Tito fans are going to be optimistic about Tito's chances. In any case, Tito's taking on a HUGE CHALLENGE. Even having been KO'd a couple of times, you gotta realize that Jones has fought at heavyweight. I mean, the man is not without skills.
Bottom line........ I'll watch. Hell yeah, I'll watch. But I'm not overly optimistic. Hopefully it'll be a good fight. As for Tito's legacy, IMO that's already cemented. I just hope it's a good fight.

Re: Tito........ WTF are you doing?!?!?
That's the reason we call boxers as true warriors when they fight an almost impossible fight but then overcoming it later. If he wins over Roy Jones, his legacy will be cemented with marble.hehe.If he loses, his greatness will never,in any chance, be diminished. So he has actually nothing to lose after all. Brilliant move, therefore, for Tito.

I see your point, and I've heard the argument. He's not expected to win, so why not? I guess it depends on how the fight goes down. If Tito loses, but gives a good account of himself, who knows? What I do agree with is Tito's legacy. He doesn't need to prove anything, IMO. He's done it all. Here's hoping he's got one more great victory left in him.

Yea, he doesn't have anything to lose in a sense, legacy wise I suppose... But in another, he does.. He could be in some excellent fights and could likely do very well at 160.. I'm assuming he can't make 154 as that would be the wisest choice.. But by fighting Roy jones at 170, I have to agree with your original post Titofan... I don't see any sense behind it. Sure it would be something if he won, but at the same time nothing too spectacular sence people already write off Jones as being shot or having no chin and being gunshy etc.. I would have to imagine Tito would indeed get a ton of credit for pulling it out. But I don't see that happening at all. Jones Jr hits way harder than anyone he's fought, and is also faster and a bigger man than anyone he's ever fought. Even in his years. And if Tito loses, he won't really have anywhere to go, so I see completely what you mean as to it being ammunition for his detractors.. They'll just say he got beat by every great fighter he ever faced, and retired after each time. The fact that he showed the heart of a lion by stepping up in weight and taking on the 3 ATG's that he did in their division will not receive as much attention. I can see why as a big fan of him this move pisses you off.. Id also like to see him back in the mix as a title contender at 160 or SMW.

Re: Tito........ WTF are you doing?!?!?
actually ima a big roy fan but i see him having a very big chance wining this fight,, im actually worried for roy

Re: Tito........ WTF are you doing?!?!?
many of us can eaily say this would be a one sided fight but I don't think it will be. I see RJJ giving Tito a clinic early and when he begins to drop his guard mid-way through the fight (like he always does)....Tito's left hook will begin to land often and we know what that means......
Remember, Roy loves to play with his opponents when he is giving them a clinic....Tito isn't the one to play around with.

Re: Tito........ WTF are you doing?!?!?
The only thing that Tito could win this fight on is Roy's now dependence to lay on the ropes and rest. Tito could catch him with that. I'm just worried because Winky and Hopkins beat Trinidad easily but Roy gets beat and it ruins his legacy

Re: Tito........ WTF are you doing?!?!?
I don't think Tito has been in the loop for some years and that video signing was a circus act!!
He should be fighting at 154 and looking at Mayweather not Jones jr who is going to cook his goose!

It's a battle of boxing's 2 biggest gamblers in cockfighting. Both love to gamble on their roosters and both are falling short money wise. Who will win "THE PEOPLE'S CHAMPIONSHIP"

Itcould be, or it could do him some permanent damage if he gets seriously punished by Roy, and with Roy's legacy and future career on the line, I can't see Roy fucking about.

Re: Tito........ WTF are you doing?!?!?
"A toda madre, o un desmadre. In other words, you win it all, or lose everything" from Blood in Blood out.
This is what Tito is doing. He is putting all his eggs in one basket. He didn't come back to be a contender and work his way to another title. He came back for the big boys. This fight gives him a fast pass. If he wins, he can pretty much fight anyone he wants. Taylor/Pavlik winner, Calzaghe/Kessler winner, Hopkins, Oscar, Floyd, anybody. He will be 36 by the time this fight gets made, he don't got time to f**k around.
It still is a huge risk IMO and I fear he might have bitten off more than he can chew and is banking a little too much on those two knockout losses from Roy. What bothers me the most is not the weight, Tito has been walking around at 200+, it's the inactivity that makes me the most nervous. Those first few rounds of shedding ring rust could be deadly when facing a guy like Roy Jones Jr.
However, something tells me that Roy is not gonna go for the kill from the start. He has alwais been a showmen and wants to demonstrate his skills. He's also not been that interested in finishing guys lately. All these things point to Tito being a very much live underdog.

Re: Tito........ WTF are you doing?!?!?
very true. That was what I was thinking when I said Tito has nothing to lose and so much to gain. If he wins over Roy, he will have all the fight he wants. That's why I said before that it was an impressive move on the part of Tito.
-
Re: Tito........ WTF are you doing?!?!?
If Tito get KO early he is going to look dumb. It is a crazy move and has all the hall marks of back firing on him. If and when he looses he can say I was way past my best but this fight should have happened years ago and even then he would have got beat. It is an intreseting and novelty fight with two former greats colliding but both fighter way past their best and not knowing when to call it a day.

Re: Tito........ WTF are you doing?!?!?
I understand this guys concern but i really don't think it will be as bad as some people think, it's nice to see someone that is a fan of a certian fighter being realistic though..

Re: Tito........ WTF are you doing?!?!?
Its a fight that makes me think of Winky moving up to fight BHop. Tito loses almost any possible advantage.
I wish him all the best but it is a fight that makes little sense to me.

Jones comes off much worse in this, at least to me.
Trying to make a fight with a guy that's been retired for two years and is about twenty pounds above his best weight. This just all seems like a joke to me, does Roy think that he's going to get any credit for this assuming he wins ??? I mean I doubt even the shrine in the closet RJJ fans would give him much credit for it.
Actually, now that I think about it Tito's the only one with anything to gain. I mean obviously besides the money factor which is clearly a huge factor, its lose-lose for Roy. He beats Tito, who cares? He loses to Tito, think of how much shit he would take. And I'm not trying to denigrate Tito but its a Tito that's been in retirement pretty much for most of the last five years and one who has absolutely no business fighting at 160, much less 170.

Re: Tito........ WTF are you doing?!?!?
If the fight happens, I will definitely be rooting for Tito. I love to cheer for the underdog. O0

Re: Tito........ WTF are you doing?!?!?
Everyone that has posted on this thread has been coolclicked.
You see, it's not about whether you're a Tito fan or not. It's about being able to express an opinion about a fighter without insulting the man, or his fans. That's why saddoboxing is the best. You go to other forums, and they're too busy calling each other "bitches" (actually, it's worse than that) to have an intelligent conversation about boxing. I mean, some good-natured verbal jabbing is OK, but when it gets personal it stops being fun.
;D ;D ;D ;D

Tito came looking for Jones. Jones will earn a fair bit from this and it's a fight he should win. When your career is on the downhill slope, taking a name and as much money as possible is what he should do.

Re: Tito........ WTF are you doing?!?!?
Yeah i think tito is goin way too far in weight. And although roy isnt at his best these days, the guy got skills and he got power! Now i like tito as much as the next fan but i saw him hurt by winky, whats gonna happen if roys right hand catches him? I dont think tito will handle his power.
-
Re: Tito........ WTF are you doing?!?!?
Yeah, not a good move for Tito. I wouldn't have minded a fight with Forrest at 154 for his first fight back. Those two never fought in their primes, and I think it'd be an intriguing matchup. Then, if he won, he could move up to 160. With Taylor and Pavlik both having trouble making weight, they'll both probably go to 168 pretty soon (in Taylor's case its pretty much a done deal). That would leave a power vacuum in the division that I could see him filling even at 36. Might even be able to unify the titles. Oh well, that isn't going to happen now. I just can't see him winning this with the size disadvantage.
-
Re: Tito........ WTF are you doing?!?!?
Do you think Tito is fighting at this weight because he's lazy and doesn't want to go all the way down to 160? I hope Tito actually worked on some plan b's and c's, because I don't think I can watch him walk around the ring with his head snapping back for 12 rounds. I kind of like this fight for Tito because he is expected to lose, and if he wins it's just that much better, butI have to agree with you Titofan and say WTF was he thinking? Let's just hope that this isn't for a payday because I am a DIEHARD Tito fan. If it looks like his heart isn't in it, and him and Roy are all buddy, buddy like him and Winky I'm gonna be pissed >:mad You don't have to hate the guy your fighting, but at least make us think you do. ;D
-
Re: Tito........ WTF are you doing?!?!?
If Tito makes a fight of this he will do better out of it than Roy Jones. But he will lose, o doubt about. End of the day.. Fighter's fight.

Re: Tito........ WTF are you doing?!?!?
A lot of you guys are talking about 154. Yes this was Tito's best weight in most eyes but the fact is Tito can't do 154lb, no way. He walks around at about 200lbs now. He will be lucky to make 160.
I do agree that his best option is 160. Call me crazy but I say he could beat Taylor, Pavlik, Abraham, Strum, Miranda and pretty much every other Middleweight right now. Many say he didn't do good at Middleweight well if I remember correctly he blew away the seccond best MW at the time in 5 rounds. Then he lossed to one of the top 3 MWs of ALL TIME. Being seccond to Hopkins is not that bad. I even here people say if he had fought Kieth Holmes he would've lossed. Are you F***ing kidding me Hacine Cherifi beat Holmes. Tito did very well at 160 and could still do well.
Like I said before, the only problem with Tito is inactivity, not weight.
