I think Mosley could beat mayweather, and I think if Oscar fought him again he would win
I've had this discussion many times. Luckily for me all my friends and my family are die-hard boxing fans. The majority of them think Mayweather will lose to someone who brings the fight to him and pours the pressure. For example, Hatton, Cotto, or the bigger De La Hoya(I knew he wouldn't pull it off). Fighters like Hatton and Cotto come in like a bull and Mayweather will stick them with shots then move when they get within range.
I personally think a fighter like Shane Mosley or Paul Williams would eventually dethrone PBF. PBF has to be outboxed not overpowered. I think Sugar Shane has the tools to beat him, but not at this point being that he's already weathered. Even if PBF and Mosley fought last year, I still think Mosley would've gotten him. Mosley has the speed, the footwork, the ring generalship, and the power to make PBF look human.
Mosely might stand a decent chance...floyd would beat oscar everytime he fought him imo, but if i had to choose just one person right now i'd say paul williams, being as tall as he is and more importantly fighting on the outside and using his height along with his high punch rate would give him the best chance....now how many of will, none of them.
Father Time.
I woudln't pick anyone to beat him, but I think Paul Williams would have the best shot with his height and constant pressure.
Hatton
Paul Williams on points and Cotto on ko.
First I think on Hatton and Cotto who will put pressure thru 12 rounds and may be able to take Mayweather out of his rhythm. Williams may have some chances also due to his reach advantage, if he is able to maintain the focus thru 12 rounds. But, it will not be an easy task at this moment.
I think both Hatton and Cotto are now in their prime and both will have a chance in the next 12 months.
I think Floyd will beat Hatton this year but he will find it a lot tougher to do so than a lot of people think,
Hatton is very good and will give Floyd a lot of trouble, Cotto will apply a lot more pressure than DLH
and punches harder. I don't think Williams can beat him and Mosley is 36 this year and any fight with Floyd won't be made until at least May next year, time has been beaten Shane.
Mayweather has fought swarmers before a fight that comes to mind is Jesus Chavez vs Floyd Mayweather Jr Chavez put pressure on every round throwing 100 punches near enough every round yet he missed alot of punches and Mayweather in the end started to batter him i really don't think pressure is the way to beat Mayweather.Quote:

Did anyone really beat pernell in his prime? I guess trinidad eventually got to him (although he was past his prime) so the answer probably lies in a fighter with a powerful, fast, and precise jab mated to a long arm...not unlike the way hearns was able to handle leonard.
i've seen floyd have some trouble with guys who pressure him and get very close, but no one has been able to put him over the edge.
None
IF cotto can beat mosley by more than a razor thin decison then i would consider him a real threat, if he is able to handle shanes speed and movment then i think he could have a chane at beating floyd, even if floyd blocks cottos punches i think they will still hurt him and over 12 rounds he might be able to do enough... i would favr mayweather heavily tho...
Paul williams is imo the most realistic threat to floyd, mayweather is gunna have to out-box him, and tbh with williams stupid reach and he as great speed i honestly can see him out pointing floyd... i don't think hes a better boxer, just a freak.
Ive got a funny feeling in my water that Hatton will do the deed. Rarely gets hit with 2 shots because of movement, and wont use the jab for distance he will make Flyod throw the first shot and only work when it s time to. I think were in for a classic I really do
Whoever thing think Cotto can beat him i wish they would just shut the hell up already! The only person that would now, is Paul Williams because he throw so many punches with those long arms and Floyd would have a hard time landing clean shots. Especially with William's height. Williams just throw pitter pat shots and i bet his punches feel like someone hitting you with a pillow but he still rack up points.
He got hit an aweful lot with clean shots vs Collazo and Hatton's face looked like he had just been in a car crash lucky Collazo was very light hitter.Quote:

Okay he had a bad night, there were things before the fight and hes never looked good against southpaws ever. I beleive them when they say hes been training for Mayweather for a number of years with the little things he does. Also he has aclimatized to the States now it always takes a little time to adjust to the travel and arrangements abroad he seemed more settled last time even though collazio was shot it was still a good job done. Plus I know he fancies it.
Did you mean Castillo Scrap?
I too think Rick will be so up for this its untrue. He always fights harder when he is the underdog and I think he has a good chance.
Thats him its late sorry
Do you reckon Rick will be up for this more so than the Tszyu fight Scrap?Quote:

After reading everyone’s post there is one name I have not seen listed, but then again I can see why.
What about the opponent back then that was almost about to get a bout against Floyd Mayweather Jr.? The guy who lost a very close decision to Bernard Hopkins this past month or two. The guy who beat Shane Mosley twice? That’s right! Winky Wright!
I mean if he can meet the weight of 147 or something do you think he can beat Floyd May weather Jr? I mean Mayweather talked some thrash when they were ready to make that fight happened. Floyd said he would be the first person to knock Winky Wright out. Floyd Mayweather has a beautiful defense, I mean beautiful but Winky Wright defense is the best as well! Winky has a great jab! Winky in the Bernard Hopkins fight seemed to be putting the pressure on in the early rounds before eventually getting tired. In the Jermain Taylor fight he was really really aggressive! Winky Wright has been there with big guys! real big guys now! So can Winky Wright actually beat Floyd Mayweather Jr? If he can even meet the weight lol but just giving an opinion here.
I think Winky could beat him, but I don't think he can make under 160 again and if the fight was at 160 it would not be a fair fight.
Yup true!Quote:

Then Tszyu would have lost in his prime? Its funny how many people on here thought that Hatton would beat Floyd, know why? BECAUSE HE WAS A CREDIBLE OPPONENT. That wasn't cap locks I was emphasizing my point.
I think Quintana has effectively shown that Paul Williams is putz when fighting to a good mover, MAyweather would totally negate Paul's height just like he did to Ndou, Corrales by either fight on the outside beyond his reach, or fighting in close where Paul will not be able to get off anything effective.
Mosley doesn't have enough boxing skills, and never did to convince me he could ever have beaten MAyweather, IF MOsley was the type of guy who would come forward through anything and bang up PBF I would give Mosley a chance at lightweight in his prime, but I think he would respect Floyd's speed and power enough not to fight like a brawler, and Mayweather's movement would effectively nullify Mosley's offense, and his straighter punches would reach Mosley first just like Winky's did, just like FOrest's did, where they had height and reach Mayweather has the speed to match Mosley's.
So that leaves Cotto, this would be interesting. I do think Mayweather could get Cotto's attention with his sneaky punching power. Hatton was rocked by Collazo who doens't hit hard, but Cotto was rocked by a lightwelterweight in Corley who didn't hit hard or was in his prime at all. That being said Cotto is very similar to Castillo in how he fights, but with a better defense, more speed, and better boxing skills, BUT he can't walk through what Castillo walked through I firmly believe if he tried to take the punishment Castillo did he would go down. There is a reason Floyd was able to stun Oscar, keep a 14 pounds heavier Baldomir in check. So Cotto is the closest guy to beating Mayweather, but I still don't think he would. Mayweather has evolved since his Castillo fights and knows how to beat that style effectively.
Cotto gets rocked, cut, etc. in almost all his fights anyways.
Yep. Can't see Cotto doing the job. With a guy who's difficult to catch like Mayweather Cotto will be tired half way through the fight.Quote:

I can see Paul Williams teeing off on 'lil Floyd...
I now must retract my previous postings.
I don not believe that Floyd will be beaten.
If Floyd comes out of retirement only Tony can beat him now. Still want to see a Floyd- Cotto match though.
I think only fighter who can beat Mayweather is Mayweather himself.
Floyd would still beat everyone in the WW division for me. Father time IS the only thing that can beat him but with Floyds naturally small frame I don't see his PRIME lasting too much longer should he decide to come back and within a couple of years I could see an awkward fighter like Paul Williams beating him.
If Floyd stays at 154 max then no-one, if he steps up to middle its a different story
Hello. I think margarito could beat pbf. He was very much, in my opinion, been avoided in the 147pnds. and that fight with cotto proved why. I think him being the bigger guy, would just eat pbf's punches.
