Ricky Hatton unheard comments about Mayweather ....

Hey brothers don't know if any of you have have Ricky Hatton's Book The Hitman My Story which I really recommend but i looked in the index and turned to the pages he talks about Mayweather and here's what he has to say:

People come up to me and say "Floyd Mayweather would give you a licking" and me reaction is, "That's your opinion mate, not mine". To be able to beat me you have got to have some serious firepower to keep me off and, no matter how much talent he has got, I don't think Floyd could do that. Tszyu couldn't and there is no way Kostya is a lighter puncher than Mayweather.

Floyd has got great hand speed and some brilliant combinations, but I will stand by this belief: if anyone can beat Floyd Mayweather it is me. He has got the kind of style which would give me problems, but for how long? How long could he keep me off him? For the first four to six rounds it might be tricky, but if persevered, and I would, I think I would end up getting to him.

Floyd could bring a tabby into the ring, otherwise he would have to hit me with something very meaty, because if he didn't I would keep going after him for the whole 36 minutes. And I wouldn't let up for a second.

Mayweather wouldn't like my body shots, no one in the world would, so that is what I would have to bring into play. Arturo Gatti, by fighting him at a distance and keeping Mayweather at bay got murdered. When we meet in the ring I am sure I will try to make Mayweather think about things he has not faced before.


Theres a good few pages on this and would take me ages to write all of it down but the above are the main paragraphs. He goes on to say when he first met Mayweather:

I have met Mayweather, although I don't think we understood each other. It was at ringside when he beat Gatti in Atlantic City in June 2005, and I was pleasantly surprised at how small he looked. I sized him up and I think he caught me! He said something which I didn't understand, but I knew it wasn't a compliment, so I fired back with some good old-fashioned Mancunion language. We both stood there until a few bouncers came over and then he walked around the back of the seats, eyeballing me the whole time. If he thinks that sort of shite will work with me, he has got another thing coming.

THESE TWO DEFINITELY HAVE GOT A PROBLEM WITH EACH OTHER AND I CAN'T WAIT TILL DECEMBER THE 8TH, BRING IT ON ;D

You definatly have to like his confidence, and he just simply seem like an all around good guy, put that against the arrogant sometime irritating pbf and you just can't help root for the guy but all that doesn't matter once they get in the ring....hatton seems determined to constantly pressure floyd so we'll just have to see...cause we've all heard all this stuff before but once they get in there it's a totally different thing. He says floyd looked small when he saw him but he better remember floyd is just off fighting at 154 against a guy much much bigger once they were in the ring so if anyone seems small imo it will be hatton....

One thing i do admire about ricky is he is a guttsy lil cunt and i give him credit for that... but mayeather is gunna ruin hatton come decemeber...

I mean i know collazo was late noticed an all that, but shit mayweather i think can bang a bit, he just seems to be more content to box now days and just scoe points and rack u the rounds... Ricky was almsot knocked the fuck out agasint collazo, and i know he will be in the ebst shape of his life come december, but i think after the first 5 or six rounds of mayeather bouncing combs off his head he will tire and slow down...

He showd int he collazo fight the only thing he can do is walk forward, he doesn't even know how to slip a punch and get inside properly... Hatton seems to use the walk a grav tactic and try rough a guy up on the inside now... mayweather is gnna be bouncing shots off him befor ehe gets close enough t hold, he's gunna tire fast and be back in th uk either retired or looking to fight guys like rees or witter next year.

Ricky is a class act.

Hatton makes some good points and its clear that in his head he thinks he can do it, but I'm sure many others have too. Hopefully he can make those words become actions in the ring come winter.

And I like the fact their English seems to be two different languages.

Not nessaseraly Hatton has a great chance. KT come to mind.

I like the fact that he does give mayweather props a couple of times. It shows me he's not one of those typical "he's a walk in the park for me" guys. I get the feeling he will be very prepared. If so, we may all get the great satisfaction of seeing floyd get bitch slapped around.

I think that Mayweather will probably win this fight 7 times out of ten but Hattons late round stutter against Collazo was also down to him running out of steam due to the all the crap he'd shovelled down when he realised he didn't have to make 140.

I'd give the Ricky v Tszyu an excellent chance but I just don't know if he's got the wind to keep going for 12 rounds anymore. The JLC result looked great but would would have happened if they went past the 9th?

Guinness and chinese are not the best fuel for a pressure fighters long term career.

I don't think that'll be an issue for this fight and anything less than a tip top Hatton is getting destroyed.
Relentless pressure is the only way he can beat Floyd (Ricky knows he can't outbox him) and i think he'll be in even better shape than he was against Castillo.

wow talk about confidence. I think ricky has a chance if he can truly pull off what he mentioned in that post, by applying relentless presssure for the whole 36minutes i don't think mayweather will look good with that type of strategy nor any opponent. However, He should remember that mayweather has also great stamina to keep him at bay if he so wish. The only thing i could see ricky could pull this off is either by hitting pbf a heartbreaking perfect liver shot or an uppercut that will lay dust pbf because tiring pbf is almost impossible or zero chance, in contrary, it's almost likely that ricky will get tired in this fight than pbf.

If ricky can somehow land a clean body combination round after round; the said strategy might probably work but the thing is with pbf as opponent, a boxer's accuracy gets really crappy. But it's always good to hear that ricky truly believes he could win this fight. That should raise his level of competition a little bit higher than ever before. . I always thought that only a boxer with godly stamina, ring intelligence,heart and the resolve to apply undying relentless pressure can beat pbf in chicken mode. I have few boxers in mind that can pull that off but weight hinders that from happening. Ricky has the right attitude and mind set but will he, his body be able to actually pull that off?. . we shall see. . ;)

Exactly, good post man. If you're anything other than confident in your own ability to beat your opponent then you shouldn't be a boxer, period! (Except the journeyman that are well aware that they are paid to lose but even they need a certain amount of self belief)
So my point is, everybody who has ever faced Mayweather has probably has the utmost belief that they can beat him but the end result?? They came up short..just like Hatton will.
Kat or anyone else..I am more than interested in making sig bets with any of you. Hey i'll make multiple bets. I'm that confident that Mayweather will make Hatton look silly Dec 8th! ;) 8)

No one has said anything close to that its just Mayweather has fought swarmers before and it didn't work Hatton doesn't carry the power at 147 he wasn't able to bully Collazo or move him with his punches Hatton was the one rocking not Collazo and Mayweather is quicker than Collazo has better punching technique and hits harder and much better defence if Hatton can do it good for him but honestly don't think he will i think a fighter like Mosley who is just as fast as Mayweather has very good chance or a very tall fighter with good boxing skills and non stop punching has very chance also against mayweather aka Williams.

Ivan Drago was immobile and very easy to hit. He's more like a prime Apollo Creed (about 2 years before the fight with Rocky Balboa)
