Never Train With Me,Im A Complete Moron
So for Feurs fight,I think I have all of her bad habits trained out of her
Raising her head, hanging the jab, leaning out of shots rather then rolling
She did all of them in the fight
Im working on her with her headgear on tonight,it was completely maladjusted, she was pulling her head up because she couldnt see a damned thing in sparring with her head down.
It didnt come up watching her spar, but she's allways been fighting bigger opponents
As soon as she pulls upright, there goes the speed on her jab,it feels more natural to lean out of shots then roll, etc, etc
Im a complete tool,I just missed it

Re: Never Train With Me,Im A Complete Moron
So those habits are from the headgear? trying to see?

Yep
Against smaller opponents she has to raise her head to see them, against taller opponents she could keep her chin tucked and still see them.Problem was in this gym,the next smallest opponent is 6'3".
But once you starting put your head up to peek, you open a litany of issues

Re: Never Train With Me,Im A Complete Moron
Remember how Tyson never trained with head-gear and destroyed everybody? Then he got cut sparring with Greg Page and went to full head-gear, which makes you keep your head high in order to see. Suddenly he was just another short, short-armed guy with a good punch.

Almost the complete opposite, against any of our mules she could just trace the torso and know where we'd be,and what we're doing just by the way we flexed
Against a smaller opponent she lost that and popped her head up like a prairie dog to get a look
I am so PO'ed at myself for missing that, she loses so many parts of her game fighting like that

Re: Never Train With Me,Im A Complete Moron
Yes, its hard to be fluent with your head up in the sky.

She loses snap to her jab,she loses her shoulder rolls,it screws with her footwork..................................

Re: Never Train With Me,Im A Complete Moron
Well if you were a crap coach I doubt you'd have ever picked up on that. At least you know now which means you can correct it. I'm sure coaches are human too and therefore can be forgiven for missing a thing or two - don't beat yourself up over it for too long!

Should have tried to get more tape from the other gym she trains at once a week, where they have smaller fighters, lord knows I shouldnt have trusted those chucklenuts to spot it.
Something had been bugging me about that Toughman tape, and I couldnt totally put my finger on it
Well there you go

Re: Never Train With Me,Im A Complete Moron
The more you come on here the more I like you Monkey. Put an Orange under her chin it works and when shes finished with it its easy to peel if shes done good give her half

She's allready doing tennis balls under the chin
Im putting people in potentially dangerous situations, and I want them doing what I tell them,if I miss something in their training, thats my fault, and mine alone.
I missed something, and while that happens,I want my fighters to trust me,and that means I cant miss something
I spent months chasing the syptoms(sp) of her issues at Toughman, and totally missed the root cause
Thats on me
Bad stoppage,etc,etc
It dont matter, her chin wouldnt have been there to hit if Id caught that. My fighters are responsible to me to give all they got,Im responsible back to them.Anybody who doesnt think they have a debt of responsibility to every fighter who's willing to carry your brand......quit now, youll get someone killed out there

Re: Never Train With Me,Im A Complete Moron
Ain't that the truth? Every time somebody I've been training gets hit I feel like I forgot to show them something that could've saved them, and I know better. You have to care about what, and how, you teach those that trust you.

Only half an orange Scrap! Is half for the coach :) i guess if all you guys are going to get so emotionally involved you might need the nourishment to make sure you don't wear yourselves out with worry!

If you ever hear me not taking a measure of responsibilty for how one of my fighters do out there, let me know
Even if you cant reach a guy,and that does happen, you should know enough to cut him loose

Never Train With Me,Im A Complete Moron
Thanks for that i will avoid you like the plague now thanks for the warning ;D

Re: Never Train With Me,Im A Complete Moron
I always wondered about the training with headgear, it seems to me it would mess up your head movement and effect your guard being too open....we used to be pretty punchy after sparring tho ;)

6'
She's the midget here,we dont have anything else smaller then 6'3"
The girl she was fighting was 5'7" 5''8"
I was joking about it leading up to the fight,we got nothing but brutes in here
She got caught with the shot because had her head lateral,no roll,no nothing
This fight ended the way it did, because of two things,a trainer who missed something incredibly crucial to the fight, and a ref who couldnt find his a$$ two out of 3 times if you handed him a map

Re: Never Train With Me,Im A Complete Moron
So you fix it now how? Readjust the headgear or something? Wear different headgear? I like my top ten because it allows good peripheral vision but I've never had to look down at a sparring partner either!
-
Re: Never Train With Me,Im A Complete Moron
wow ive seen lots of things in boxing but i dont think ive ever seen 6'3 women fighting each other. you need to youtube that or something.

I have this idea to make headgear with a unique design specialized so to maximize vision and be light in weight. The padding is thin and not intended to absorb the impact of blows like the heavily padded headgear. The forehead is covered so that it runs over the crown of the head since thats the most salient part of the head (think buddy mcgirt). the padding doesnt come all the way down to the brow because if have your chin down your eyes must therefore be looking upward. If there's padding up there you won't see anything. the next feature is two traingular shaped paddings that runs up along the cheeks and srrounds the nose so that the nose sits between the two pads. its similar to the headgear with the cheek protection but instead of the pads coming horizontally across the face they come up from under so that you can have periperhal vision. If the pads come from the side you take that away. I have a nice nose and its not broken but I was always scared of breaking it. helped my defense alot being that way. But another reason for having that feature is that it takes forever to heal a broken nose which is absolutely counter productive. So its important that headgear should stop it. Unfortunately not many do and the ones that do rob you of a genuine fighting experience.
visualizing it all together it should look like typcial headgear but much thinner, with the face area opened up more so as to see more with your peripheral vision. Ive had this idea for a long time and I guess its going to stay that way because it requires some initiative to actually make. Ive never had too much of that.

Re: Never Train With Me,Im A Complete Moron
Better late than never Thomas - I'm not sure how to start getting prototypes of this sort of thing made up - but a bit of googling might be able to tell you :) I love google - can find almost anything :)Why not give it a go or just patent your idea so if someone decides to use it they have to pay you a nice little commission ;)

That's a neat idea Thomas, I do hope you persue it. Right now I figure I'm much better off without headgear, as I can actually see the punches coming. Today's headgear reminds me of the blinders that they put on horses. There's probably more brain damage on account of getting hit while wearing headgear and the aftermath of bad habits of training with it than would be the case training without it. The extra weight especially after it soaks in some sweat probably makes the body react in a bad way as it's unnatural.

What I meant about the tennis ball,is it was once the first things that I tweeked in her training when she got back, not thad I had had her doing it before hand

Re: Never Train With Me,Im A Complete Moron
Keeping your head upp either losses you your neck and head movement or exposes your chin, Not the best idea.

Re: Never Train With Me,Im A Complete Moron
Trust me,in a rematch
It wont be much of a match, caught the problem and fixed it
Stupid flash knockdowns happen, bad stoppages happen
Being willing to repair what went wrong also happens
She went down knowing she was going down the whole way,and she got right back up
Alot different from having the lights turned off

Re: Never Train With Me,Im A Complete Moron
In all my travels Ive found Top ten the best Headgaurd for vision the snag is the velcro remove it and get a leather or nylon dog collar with a buckle in its place
-
Re: Never Train With Me,Im A Complete Moron
Yep I've sung praises of my top ten headguards. Good to know they were a good buy CC Scrap.
I own 2 of my own - one for each corner but the bigger ones other people in the gym use don't have intact velcro straps anymore. Must be the first thing that falls apart on them.

Re: Never Train With Me,Im A Complete Moron
Monkey i jus spotted this thread now...And i really need help on this. When going inside i work in a bit of a crouch, a little mosely or even hatton like i guess. But this creates real vision problems for me.
God nose if i could compete without headgear id be in heaven but i cant so i need advice. Iv bin wearing a top pro headguard, but it totally obscures my vision and is misery! I one wore green hill and a couple of times top ten tyhey were pretty good.... Any adevice???
