Floyd Mayweather. A look at his recent opponents
Since Floyd Mayweather has hit the 140’s and above who has he beaten?? Its not that the names on his record are bad it’s just that when you look at it more closely you see that his recent fights really were nothing to give him the credit or rating he has.
Let’s take a look at his last few opponents 140 and above
Demarcus Corley:
Mayweather couldn’t KO him and beat him over 12 rounds. Since then Corley has lost by TKO to Jose Alfor, Lost by UD to Jr Witter and lost by TKO to Miguel Cotto
Henry Bruseles:
This was an elimination bout that was made to keep Mayweather busy and is not worth mentioning. Henry has not really beaten anybody of note before or after this bout.
Shamba Mitchell
Mayweather KO’d him in 4 but Kostya Tsyu had already achieved this and Hatton has already stopped Tsyu and retired him. Which means he was close to retirement when he beat Shamba. Since the Mayweather fight Shamba has been KO’d in 4 by Paul Williams.
Arturo Gatti:
Mayweather steam rolled him. Since this fight he has lost by TKO to Carlos Baldomir and TKO in 7 to Alfonso Gomes(who)
Zab Judah:
Took Mayweather the whole 12 rounds but has just been KO’d by Miguel Cotto
Carlos Baldomir:
Gained the title from over the hill previous light welter Zab Judah just lost UD to Vernon Forrest.
Oscar De La Hoya:
WAY OVER THE HILL
This fight was a joke. Delahoyas size took him so far but he gassed and is a shadow of his former self.
I think Hatton has a much better chance here than I originally thought :)

Re: Floyd Mayweather. A look at his recent opponents
puts it in to perspective mate
if mayweather tries to fight hatton on the inside he will get fcked up
i see hatton wearing him down, and the only way floyd can win is by running and jabbing his way to a UD with bias/paid vegas judges, but i belive hatton will frustrate him that much he'll get drawn into a war
-
Re: Floyd Mayweather. A look at his recent opponents
Agreed. Its a pretty weary looking list of opponents for the best fighter in the sport. The best opponent is Oscar simply because Oscar was the kingpin in a pretty weak 154 pound division. Oscar is not my idea of a great fighter and especially not at this stage in his career. He has a history of blowing at the tail end of his big fights. And indeed thats where Floyd took him.
There are some truly lacklustre names there. Fighters that are past their best or else were not all that good anyway.
-
Re: Floyd Mayweather. A look at his recent opponents
MAYWEATHER knows how to play the game. According to Mayweather he has beaten the best. Maybe at jr lightweight and lightweight but not in the welterweights. Not where the big boys are. None of those guys are deadly power punchers at welterweight. DLH is the most pwerful and we saw that PBF wasn't going to stand and fight. He's convincing people that he's the best by beating fighters like Baldomir. who have 9 loses. He has fought 7 fighters since moving to the welterweights with a combine loss total of 30 losses. thats 4.28 per fighter. WTF is that? SHould I consider him the greatest of all times? good topic STEADY_E!

Most of these fighters went on to lose fights to weak opposition because mayweather was brutal, offensive, and unrelenting. Opponents of Mayweathers never come out unscathed. He does what Calzaghe did to Lacy in every single fight..........
Just kidding.

Re: Floyd Mayweather. A look at his recent opponents
This has all been discussed over and over again. The fact is that WW and JM divisions were EXTREMELY week just 2 years ago. Judah, Baldomir and DelaHoya were the top three in those divisions.
He did skip the 140 pound division but I didn't see anybody give Mosley any crap when he did the same.
I think Myawether has either planned his rise to power at just the perfect time or he was extremely lucky. Regardless, he is a great fighter and will face his toughest test since Castillo in Hatton.

Re: Floyd Mayweather. A look at his recent opponents
Did anyone ever think that Baldomir was a better fighter than Margarito or Cotto at the time they fought? Absolutely not. Baldo was a slow, plodding, low risk for Mayweather. No one is going to convince me that Judah, Baldomir, and DLH had 147 and 154 on lockdown at the time of Mayweather's fight with each of them.

Re: Floyd Mayweather. A look at his recent opponents
It's funny how before these fights it was a whole different story from most people.....and it's always followed by a ton of reasons why this will be the guy to finally beat floyd, and after you get this type of stuff, hell i think there is already a thread on here disscussing what will be said about hatton after he looses, if he does at all....

Are you going to tell me Mar that ODLH, Gatti, Judah, and Bladomir had 147 and 154 all sewed up???? that they were the absolute best to beat?? Of course not because you are literate and not institutionalized somewhere that doesn't let you use computers.
I can explain why we always have all the hype that 'this is the man to beat Mayweather' stuff before every Mayweather fight. it is because most of us want Mayweather to lose. And because of this, when combined with our unprofessional way of letting bias getting in the way of sanity----we actaully posted on threads as to why Gatti (or whoever) could win.

Well ive heard that he didnt want to risk an 'L' going in with Tszyu. Cause we all know the main temptation of moving up was the Golden Boy in his prime.
Mayweather chased an old dream (in Dela Hoya) and its not sold so well, plus his original stint at Welterweight was a bit of a freudulant escapade (As Boozeboxer explains)

I think Mayweather needs to settle down at Welterweighte again and just have a couple more fights after Hatton, against the big boys (Cotto, Mosley, Williams, Margarito... Hell even Clottley or Cintron).
If he beats a couple of those guys, id be happier hearing people call Mayweather a Great fighter.

not at all and that's exactly my point. These things mentioned here are some of the same things i said before these fights, i just find it strange how after the fights everyone including some of thier own fans now choose to see it the same way.

Re: Floyd Mayweather. A look at his recent opponents
For once after a fight it would just be nice to hear "floyd was just better tonight" instead of the usual.....he ran, he beat a washed up fighter blah blah etc.......that's all i'm saying.

Re: Floyd Mayweather. A look at his recent opponents
I'll give Mayweather the Diego Corales fight as Corales was in his prime and they were the same weight. He didn't exactly crush him it was just a bunch of flash knock downs due to Mayweathers bluring hand and foot speed but he beat him fairly easily. Mayweather also did very well against Castillo expecially in the second fight but look what Hatton did to Castillo when he tried to move up in weight.
If you look at the list above it doesnt contain any fighters that didnt go on to get beaten after Mayweather fought them. Infact most of them got beaten in better fashion by KO
If MAyweather beats Hatton then I'll give him plenty of credit but for the first time I can sense in Mayweathers interviews that he not looking past Hatton to future plans. Infact... I think he may even be a little scared

He has every reason to feel a little fear. He is facing an undefeated livebody for the first time in a long time.
Hatton really wants to bust him up. There will be no Gatti style boxing here. No Baldomir esque mismatch. No Zabesque loss of focus after 6. All those fighters revealed even before the fights that they were not a match.
Hatton is Floyds best opponent in many a year. Hatton doesnt know defeat nor thinks he is going to lose.
This is a great matchup and Ricky shouldnt be underestimated.

I just think Ricky really has a chance and a chance that none of Floyds recent opponents have had.
Ricky's guts and courage are somehing else and he will go to hell and back to pull this one off. He has a long history and boxing is in his blood, its all he knows.
If Lamotta can beat Robinson then Ricky has a chance against Mayweather. ;)

I will make this statement EVERYTIME this topic comes up since it seems to be coming up more frequently.
You can do this to EVERY fighter today and pick apart their record like this. Yet you forget the fact that
PBF is naturally a superfeatherweight 130 pounds. He was fighting at 154 his last fight 4 full weight classes
up. It would be like Hatton facing someone at 160 like say Winky Wright who is actually older than ODLH.
IF you are going to pick apart PBF's recent fights, do the same for whomever you are comparing them too.
In this case you can talk about what world beaters Urango and Collazo are. And then the mandatory Hatton vs.
Tszyu fight which happened over 2 years and 6 million pints ago.

Your first post was just another in a long line of biased rhetoric against Mayweather IMO, and this post proves it. You go through all Mayweather's recent opponents and point out the flaws, aka who they lost to before AND after their fights with Mayweather. BUT when it comes to hyping Hatton and comparing his fight with Castillo to Floyd's fight with Castillo, you CONVENIENTLY forget to mention the five years that passed between the fights, the two wars he had with Corrales in which he was stopped in the first fight, and the fact that he just barely got by Herman Ngoudjo before the Hatton fight. You talk about how OVER THE HILL De La Hoya was (which is rediculous), but yet you think the Castillo who fought Hatton was prime Castillo? Not even close.
Face it, you are a "hater". The board is full of them. They don't like a guy for whatever reason, so they try to twist and manipulate facts to justify their hatred. No credibility whatsoever.

Hatton beat Urango decisively and Hatton did beat Collazo. It wasnt pretty but neither was Mayweather: Castillo. Relative factors are indeed relative. Rematches usually show who a better fighter is and im sure Hatton: Collazo 2 would produce a nice result for Ricky too.
Maweathers recent opposition has been mediocre at best. Steady E made some succinct points.
My only issue is with the arguments saying what came after Maywether. Most fighters after their shot at the top lose more heavily thereafter. I did say most and not all.

I totally disagree you think Hatton has better chance because Mayweather hasn't fought great opposition in his last couple of fights ?? how about doing some research and watching fights like Chavez vs Mayweather Chavez is very similar style to Hatton and Mayweather broke him down and beat hell out of him in the end and case could be made that Hatton struggles with fast handed fighters remember the trouble he had with Collazo ?? your discrediting Floyd here but is Hatton's opposition that much better in his last fights ??
Kostya Tszyu = Just as past it as Oscar.
Jose Luis Castillo = looked terrible in his last fight before Hatton was also past it but it was impressive how Hatton won i give him credit.
Juan Urango = Got a gift decision winning his title and i had never heard of him before.
Luis Collazo = Again i had never heard of this guy before Hatton fight yet alot of people thought he deserved to win Hatton fight and he goes on to get schooled my Mosley.
Carlos Maussa = Hatton was also dropped in this fight i don't have to say about this guy you already know he isn't good yourself.
Ray Oliveira
Michael Stewart = Off the contender who lost in one of the first rounds i believe.
Is this list of opposition really any better than Mayweathers last couple of opposistion ??

Im annoyed by that too.
But this fight is a step back for neither fighter, and the winner sure gets a lot of clout.
The loser trails with a tail between the hind legs. Unbeaten records are at stake hear and a lot of pride too.
I cannot wait.

More past it IMO, and also coming off of a devistating injury that kept him out of action.

Flash knockdowns ?? he hit Corrales with solid left hooks in 2 of the knockdowns if i remember right and they certainly wern't flash knockdowns this fight was one of the most one sided fights in history.
Also another great win for Floyd i would like to point out.
Genaro Hernandez = Who had never lost at superfeatherweight before and Oscar Delahoya was only man to beat him at that time and that was at Lightweight a very impressive win for Mayweather considering Hernandez had beaten Azumah Nelson yet Mayweather dominated Hernandez.

Hatton beat Urango decisively and Hatton did beat Collazo. It wasnt pretty but neither was Mayweather: Castillo. Relative factors are indeed relative. Rematches usually show who a better fighter is and
im sure Hatton: Collazo 2 would produce a nice result for Ricky too.
Maweathers recent opposition has been mediocre at best. Steady E made some succinct points.
My only issue is with the arguments saying what came after Maywether. Most fighters after their shot at the top lose more heavily thereafter. I did say most and not all.
Hatton's recent opposition has been mediocre as well.
I'm still upset that Hatton reneged on his rematch with Collazo.
Im annoyed by that too.
But this fight is a step back for neither fighter, and the winner sure gets a lot of clout.
The loser trails with a tail between the hind legs. Unbeaten records are at stake hear and a lot of pride too.
I cannot wait.
I agree, whomever loses it will be a crushing blow, maybe not a career-ending one, but devastating none-the-less.
Here is my position on the fight, I favor PBF because of his style. I do not count out Hatton although I think the entire
fight will be determined on how successful he is in the first 3 rounds.
The mud-slinging and political spin put on these guys gets really old.
Of course both guys are gonna say they are gonna win by brutal KO, they are trying to sell the fight.
Of course they are gonna hype themselves and trash the other, they are trying to sell the fight.
Picking apart their records like this is completely pointless, it's in the past.
If you are trying to say Floyds record is not the best, put up someone elses so there are grounds for
comparison.

IMO Floyd was a nautural superfeather. (as i now understand)
PBF had 25 fights at 130 no way was he struggling he has a small frame and he's only 5'8"

Why should this be any different from anytime Hatton fights.

Great post, I've been saying this about Floyd for a while and it bothers me to no end. All Floyd talks about how he only fights the best but discredits all good possilbe opponents. He was one of the best Super Featherweights of all time but he hasn't established himself at the higher weights, IMO

Outstanding points. But not what the Hatton groupies like to hear. Hatton has over 40 fights and his biggest wins are against 2 past there prime fighters. The only good fighter he faced in his prime (Collazo) by all rights beat him. Only to watch Hatton punk out on a rematch

Re: Floyd Mayweather. A look at his recent opponents
Great thread steady. But The Judah that face Mayweather wasn't the same that face Baldomir.
I give mayweather his credit over his win over Judah only that fight I like the way he adjusted and pull the W Judah is no walk in the park for anyone (that is why I'm so impresed with Cotto). Since Corrales, Castillo, Corley and Sosa he wasn't in a real fight IMO maybe we can throw ODLH in there.

I think Mayweather gets to much criticism on here and people call him boring which is also not true Hattons opposition isn't as good as Mayweather's opposition yet Hatton has had more fights but i don't here this kind of criticism for Hatton and the thing i did not like about Hatton was that he promised Collazo rematch which Collazo deserved yet he went back down in weight to fight easier opponent he would of gained my respect had he took the rematch atleast when Mayweather had highly controversial decision like Hatton he revenged it by beating Castillo convincing and i have also been hearing now in some topics that Mayweather has been ducking Cotto ?? when Cotto was nothing more than a prospect he has come along way but not enough quite yet a win over Mosley will 100 percent get his shot vs Mayweather and if Mayweather doesn't take the fight then i will be the first to say yes ok you was right but lets not jump the gun like some people are doing and wait and see if Cotto actually beats Mosley because i have Mosley as the favorite and i think Mosley has one of the best chances of beating Mayweather and so does Paul Williams for his height and workrate i think people need to stop hating and just appreciate how good of a talent Mayweather yes maybe Mayweather didn't fight some fighters he should have but no one is perfect even the greatest of all time Sugar Ray Robinson didn't fight some fighters he should of fought one name springs to mind Charles Burley the man who koed him twice in sparring and also Ezzard Charles and few others like i said no one is perfect we can sit here all day picking records apart but the fact is Mayweather has fought better opposition than Hatton and Mayweather is going in the right direction towards big fights the Oscar fight and now Hatton fight i can't believe some people are complaining.

Well VD, didnt you say Ricky would be KO'd in 6 by Castillo?? What happened there mr expert? He was shot but that wasnt the usual shit coming from your mouth prior to the fight.
Hatton beat the P4P number 3 and the Ring Belt holder at 140, in his first big fight, and he best Castillo in 4 rnds who was the Rings number 1 Contender, what fuckign more can he do? But its easy to say these fighters are shot after the event.

Re: Floyd Mayweather. A look at his recent opponents
I think Floyd should get a lot more credit than people give him for the De La Hoya fight. Sure De la hoya was past his best but the guy has only ever lost to world class opposition. Floyd moved up and took a risk againt one of the best fighters of the last decade. Oscar wasn't exactly a shot fighter and was very competative in the fight Mayeather was just too quick and his defense was too good.

I gave Hatton credit for the Castillo fight. I did say Castillo would beat him. But that's cuz I ignored the signs that Castillo was done. I've always taught highly of Castillo. Which is why I didn't want to except the fact that he was washed up. But the fight proved he was. Only a fool would say other wise
