Sanctioning body grants champion emeritus status

Press Release: Ryan Wissow, president of the WIBA, has announced that Laila Ali will be honored as its first ever "Champion Emeritus." Laila is taking a sabbatical from the sport to start a family after marrying former NFL star, Curtis Conway. Since capturing the WIBA super middleweight title in 2002, Ali has remained undefeated with a perfect record of (26-0, 23 KO's) and will receive "Champion Emeritus" status, which by definition means, "retired but retaining an honorary title corresponding to that held immediately before retirement."


Does anyone care?

In a way, I do. Nobody should get a fucking pass to the title by a sanctioning body. It takes the piss out of the rankings.

No offence to Lailia, shes an extremely talented athlete and all and i do think shes done ok getting out of Muhammads considerable shadow, but who has she fought?

I can sympathise with why they have created this "Champion Emeritus" status, because of the one massive difference between men and women in that the women have to put in a lot more effort into starting a family, and to give them time off for maternity seems to make perfect sense to me.

Without any offense meant, sometimes I am uncomfortable with women fighting in the ring. Their breasts could be affected by punches.Knowing that those parts of their body are more prone to breast cancer. is there any study as to the side effects of boxing to women's health? ???

Ali's backed out of 3 seperate contracts with Wolfe

I've seen very few boxers duck and opponet the way she ali does wolfe....she loved beating up on the smaller girls now all of the sudden she wants a family, and to dance, save the earth all kinds of shit as long as it doesn't involve wolfe.

The Emitrius is bullshit. There is no reason for it, if you retire, you retire the belt period, it should become vacant and
the #1 and #2 ranked boxers behind her should fight for the belt. This is one of the things i hate about boxing. Give her a retirement watch or pen or something if you feel it is necessary, but the title needs to move on.

Laila Ali in my opinion can go to Hell >:mad I never seen a fighter in the history of boxing duck another fighter the way she did. She ducked Wolfe like she was Sweet Pea ducking a punch. If her last name wasn't Ali we wouldn't even know who she was. The fight between her and Ann Wolfe is too late because and Ann is too old now. When she seen Ann knock that big white girl Da fuk out she probably almost Sh#t her pants. Laila is a disgrace to boxing. My advice to you is go somewhere and sit your ass down. Better yet go dance with the stars you damn chicken.

She has done nothing in boxing and will contiue to do nothing. She should move out the way for female boxers who want to fight and earn a title by beating good fighters not punching bags.

I can see why she took this route, Ann Wolfe wanted to be the first female fighter to get a sanctioned match against a man. The lady has guts, of course Laila wants out before having to face her.

This wolf woman seriusly wanted to fight with the men.....what can you say to that lol

I will say this,as much as she isnt Mrs Popularity within the sport,her name recognition has been good for it.
As far as Wolfe,we allready have our response if we get a phone call from her people looking for a fight any time soon,"WRONG NUMBER!! NO SPEAKY ENGLISH,WE NOT HOME RIGHT NOW!!!!!" ;D ;D

As far as Christy Martin,shes fighting 2 weight classes to high right now,but the bigger money is in Super Middle weight,but she really is too short to be fighting up there
