Named fighters KO'd in 1
I watched the Whitaker vs Hurtado fight this past weekend on FNF and saw Pernell go down on the first punch. He got up to win by ko in the late rounds but it got me thinking.
How many "named" fighters have been KO'd in the first round?
Off the top of my head I can only remember 2. Tua vs Ruiz and Tua vs Moorer. After looking up Tua, I can add Sullivan to the list as well.
This isn't a Tua love him or hate him thread, I'm just looking to have the question answered.

That wasn't a boxing match that was a street fight. It was almost like Hagler vs. Hearns in one round. Barkley is a bad mother fuker and wasn't backing down from shat.

Re: Named fighters KO'd in 1
Tyson-Spinks was the first one that came to my mind.
It happened twice to Golota with Lewis & Brewster doing a job on him.
Marquez went down 3 times in the first round against Pac (How he came back from that I'll never know)
Bautista to Ponce De Leon 2 weeks ago

Re: Named fighters KO'd in 1
I believe 19 KOs in round 1 by Edwin Valero's record?
And 10 for DPDL?

Re: Named fighters KO'd in 1
Eamonn Magee knocked Hatton down in the 1st minute of the first round when they fought in 2002 which Hatton got up from and out pointed Magee.

Re: Named fighters KO'd in 1
Someone give Cutmemick a CC as the Nelson v Cowdell one is one of my favourite knockouts.
Hamed also got floored by Daniel Alicea before KOing Alicea later on. Think it might have been the 2nd round.

Re: Named fighters KO'd in 1
Thanks everyone for your input. I can't believe I was drawing a total blank. After reading the answers I remembered actually watching a few of those fights. (How sad it is to grow old and forgetful).
Now, back to looking up names you all have given me.

Re: Named fighters KO'd in 1
Emile Griffith, ny Reuben Carter, just days before he appeared to accept "Fighter of the Year" honors in Pittsburh, leading to his classic line "Something funny happened to me on the way to Pittsburgh..."
Lots of great fighters got ko'd early, early in their careers. Benny Leonard (ko3), Henry Armstrong (ko3) and Alexis Argeullo (ko2) come to mind. I know there are many more Hall of Famers that had one round ko losses but I don't have my book and my memory fails me.

No, Archie Moore got ko'd in one as well. So did the man he won the title from, Billy Miske.

Re: Named fighters KO'd in 1
I would have thought that the Max Schmelling KO1 by Joe Louis was the most famous of all time after what happened to Joe in their first fight and the huge crowd in attendance.
I know that Anthony Mundine's old man Tony Mundine had his lights turned out in 52 seconds by Luis Rodriguez in 1970. Mundine went onto beat Emile Griffith and fight Carlos Monzon for the Middleweight title and was no chump.
