Anyone elses neighborhood gone to shit?
I live in a small welsh valley, its a small town, 99% population here is white, british, monstly welsh, now and again you see a black person or family, we have a few indians and chinese in our local takeouts - never a problem... no bigots or anything like that... sometimes you find when ur in an almost complete white place someone of another color creed could have problems, but if they come into a local pub skin color or creed isn't even looked upon... it, like every place has had it's delinquents but nothing really to cause a stir...
In the news recently there was a biker from a hells angel type gang got gunned down on the road coming from some motorbike meet up... in england... then last week the news hit about some 11 year old kid in liverpool got shot in the neck from someone passing by on a push bike...
now recently things have somewhat gotten worse where i live, there was an a shooting down the road, some months ago, but things in local towns or villages have seemed to got worse and the shooting here seemed to be an iscolated incedent...
anyhow i'm walking up to my local video shop tonight, (normaly out on a sat but shit i to bad a come down from an office do last night to do anything today so planned a night in..)
anyhow there is a big crowd all around the high street where 2 pubs are, just a few seconds up the road from where i live... some guy who is form here and family lives here went nuts with a metal chain, he hit some guy with it a few times to the ground and kept on hitting him outside of the pub... it was early on in the day at the time and not many about, he kept on doing it untill luckily three guys run in to stop it... the guy on the floor is ok now the other done a runner, not sure if he got caught or not...
it took the police over an hour to get there!
it was only thursday i was saing to my mates it makes you apreciate sometimes living in a somewhat quiet place like this after we heard about the liverpool shooting... then this happens... I mean fuck i'm always around here outside the pubs dirnking in nice weather, butshit man it makes you think WTF when you find out there are guys now doing shit like this for no fucking reason... i mean i can see now why shit in the states is so bad at times... i know you guys got really relaxed gun laws... but when mother fuckers are going around doing shit like this no wonder people are packing, then using them when their head goes...
i mean shit man fights happen and normaly they can get sorted out... but god damn when people go around hitting people with weapons or pulling out guns and shit the mother fuckers need to be executed, no fucking rehab, no pleading this and that and getting out... they do this shit once fuck them, execute the mother fucker.

Re: Anyone elses neighborhood gone to shit?
My neibourhood is already shit. About 2 months ago the cops fired 12 rounds at a guy in a stolen car about 100 ft. from my place. Only 2 of the 12 bullets hit their intended target, the rest missed. If I ignore the crackhouse 3 houses over and the blatant midday drugs deals that occur, and all the crackheads wandering around its not too bad... And I live in fucking Canada, ain't nobody supposed to get shot here.
Luckily I'm moving in Nov. to a nice area... its not actually too bad around here, I've just had enough of it.

Re: Anyone elses neighborhood gone to S***?
I feel for you, sometimes all it takes is a little hurricane to clear out the riff-raff. OK, bad joke but I live here so it's ok. Funny thing about a hurricane is it actually brings the people (that still live there) together once it's over. The locals here are much nicer to each other but it's the out of town help that causes problems. The trick is, you can't let it get to you.
Best of luck in your new digs!

Re: Anyone elses neighborhood gone to shit?
I feel bad for ya Preme, because at least I can move away from my crappy neighborhood, but living in a small town would be a lot different (The town I live in has a population of about 300,000-400,000. Here in Canada we have tons of trouble with warring biker gangs and the fucktards that associate with them, but that is seriously unfair that a little kid would get shot because of some moron on a bike.
I agree with you that anyone who takes or destroy's a life should forfeit theirs. The legal system here is a goddamn joke, it seems like its set up to help and protect the peretrator rather than the victims. You can recklessly kill someone here and get less than 2 years in jail, its one of the very few things that makes me wish I lived in the states (no offense to you American's).

You're from N.O.? How is the city doing? Is it as bad as I've seen reported? I've heard the gov't has pretty much abandoned you guys. That hurricane was a tragedy, but the response (from the gov't) was a crime.

"You're from N.O.? How is the city doing? Is it as bad as I've seen reported? I've heard the gov't has pretty much abandoned you guys. That hurricane was a tragedy, but the response (from the gov't) was a crime."
Yup, I'm in the big sleazy....er I mean easy (actually 20 min north but I work in the city). I lived here 3 months before the hurricane and I moved my family back 5 months after the storm when the company I worked for offered a lot of money to come back. Money wasn't the only reason, my parents took a pretty big hit so I also came back to help out. Once they got back on their feet they took off but my little family stayed.
I'm an old school dude as in real men don't cry but I just couldn't help it after arriving here a month later and still seeing the destruction all the way from N.O to Biloxi MS. All I could think about was pictures I'd seen of Europe and Japan during WWII. Just complete devastation and you just can't see how any city along the coast could come back from that.
Alas, people are resilient and all of the cities are bouncing back. In parts of LA and MS you can hardly tell there was a storm. In other parts, to this day, it still looks like it happened last week.
All I can say about the government is that I've learned it's best not to rely on them. Get yourself straight, make sure your family is protected then pray for the rest.......and I'm not even a religious man.

Re: Anyone elses neighborhood gone to shit?
was thinking about this other day
in last year or so more and more groups of teenage hoodie arseholes are starting to hang round the streets round here. And they give you lip when you walk past them - just showing off in front of the young lasses who are with them and idolize them. Will be walking past with the shopping and they will call you a prick cos you have bog roll in your bag or something. But what do you do ? If you say something back thats what they want and theres about a dozen of them. If you crack one of them then its you who will be hauled down the cop shop. This country has got too fucking soft I tell you. I am all for zero tolerance. We have had two middle aged blokes killed over here in last month who have tried to stop teenage gangs doing vandalism etc... One in his own driveway who went out when they threw a brick through his car window. So you can see why people are scared to speak up to these kids - Scared of kids :-\ Unbelievable eh :-\
Give these kids a beating that doesn't do permanent damage and they won't do it again in a hurry I can tell you.
Cops been plenty of times to them to move them on but they just take the piss with the cops and give them lip and are soon back.
Its only going to get worse. Not sure if non UK people have heard the story that is dominating UK news at moment about a young 11 year old lad from Liverpool who was shot and killed on his way home from park by a hoodie on a BMX - believed to be 13-16 years old, not caught him yet - http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/england/m...de/6964312.stm.
Fucking annoying. We need a Paul Kersey figure on the streets to put fear of god into the little fuckers - you know what, it's got that bad I kind of mean that :-\ :-\

Re: Anyone elses neighborhood gone to shit?
I live in downtown San Diego and its as safe as houses. Obviously not the houses in New Orleans. :-\
Anyway. I get home from work at about 3am and usually have to park about half a mile from my place and have no worries walking home.
I find that the States is a lot safer than the UK. Not sure if its cos they have guns here or people are generally less violent or maybe because I lived in shitty parts of London and now I live in nicer areas of the US.
I do find that crime here tends to be more within ones ethnic circle. Black on black, Hispanic on Hispanic and the only time I have had any bother is from some Northerners down my local English pub ::**. Luckily, I had a handful of change which I tossed on the floor. They soon forgot about me ;)

Re: Anyone elses neighborhood gone to shit?
I live a good bit south of pittsburgh (where shootings are a common occurance). There's some towns around me that are pretty bad but the one i live in is just run down. I supposed there's a drug problem compared to "ideal" towns, but it usually doesn't lead to anything. There's no gang activity and a stabbing/shooting/murder only happens about once a year sometimes less. The drugs are just a by product of the fact that there isn't anything to do here. Its a good place to go too if your old and want a calm place to retire at, but if you're young it's a prison.

there were 23,000 reported american murders last year. The good parts here may be better than the good parts over at the UK, but I can assure you the bad parts here are A LOT worse.

I was watching a CNN special report thingy a few weeks ago about crime in Chicago, it focused particularily on the rash of murders among teens, mostly done by teens.
People seem to live without consequences for all but the most serious crimes these days...

Where I'm from each household has it's own toilet so it's not a big deal if the the whole neighborhood goes to shit. Still, back when we had a community bathroom taking a dump after Thanksgiving dinner was a nightmare, so I can relate.
What about when no one wants to pitch in for toilet tissue?! Cheap bastards.

Re: Anyone elses neighborhood gone to S***?
The area of the capital Cardiff that I now live in is pretty quiet and a nice place. The town of Caerphilly that I originally came from in the South Wales Valleys called Caerphilly was decent enough but at times could be like the Wild West. Not really guns but certainly violence at times.
Though in the early 90's an Ice cream van driver got shot during the day for playing his music loud after waking up a man who had been sleeping after a nightshift working. :o

I'd of done the same thing. If I would've came home from my tough factory job and I can't get any sleep because some fruity music is being blasted by some guy (probably a pedophile) who won't get a real job, i'd have the same reaction. Atleast he didn't shoot him over not doing the dishes (like someone around here did to their wife).

Re: Anyone elses neighborhood gone to S***?
It is crazy how many areas are 'going bad'. Where I grew up, I'm one of only five in the neighborhood that didn't go to prison, and I suppose the percentage is nearly as high among the black and mexican guys. It was a rough place, but a good place, to grow up. Much changed in the mid-80s with the crack epidemic, though most that I knew were already making, selling and using speed before that. To many friends that disappeared or that are in prison over all that. Founding members of the AB came from there, as did the acting head of the Mexican Mafia, and a ranking member of the BGF. THAT was one hell of a high school class.
I lived in Phoenix, which is hell, except warmer. There is not, to my knowledge, one area in Phoenix where you can leave something outside overnight and not have to buy a new one the next day. Now I live in Montana. In Bozeman they have drug rings and gang graffiti. Butte, where I live, has always been kind of rough. In comparison it isn't much but...the cancer spreads.
Growing up many people I knew/know associated that 'cancer' with ethnic minorities. But in the early part of the century in this country the criminals were predominantly Jewish or Irish or Italian or whatever group happened to be the most 'have-not' at the time.
It is curious to me that so many places have problems with the biker gangs. I grew up a stone's throw from where the most famous of them was begun. We ran them out in the late 70s and early 80s over some transgression that had to do with the race wars in the state prisons at the time. They behave well if properly contained.
-
Re: Anyone elses neighborhood gone to shit?
When I see these gangs now they remind me if you can remember The Bowry Boys, but with guns its not funny anymore
-
Re: Anyone elses neighborhood gone to S***?
No kidding. In Phoenix we had a group from the Phoenix Boys Club come up for sparring. Now, that's in a different "'hood" than the gym. They came in and were warming up, putting gloves on and the like, when several locals came in. My uncle, being constantly armed himself, noticed the guns under their shirts and pointed it out to me. Being stupid and being mad that they'd bring that crap into the gym I 'bodied' them towards the far door, which nearly made my uncle kill me. But I couldn't understand it. You are in a boxing gym where fighting is ok; the other guys have gloves on. Put 'em up and handle your business. Shoot one another elsewhere.

Re: Anyone elses neighborhood gone to S***?
For those Brits on here, I have a theory:
I think that British people have centuries of breeding behind us to make us aggressive and violent. For 400 years, we sailed around the world conquering and occupying people's lands, we had a standing professional army that was the first in the world with generations of our population surviving or getting rich by simply being more aggressive, better trained and more technologically and commercially equipped than everyone else. Socially, Britain has always been lawless, violent and full of binge-drinkers .... those that disagree should check out the real social history of this place.
Once we decided to give people back their countries, or were booted out, we had the disintegration of our entire economy aided by the fact we had fought WW1 and WW2 (and from the beginning!). We fell into the spiral of economic disintegration because our manufacturing industry no longer had the wherewithal to simply plunder raw materials from around the world to make into products.
Strikes, riots, protests etc were as a result of us struggling to find our new place in the world, yet still being inherently quite militaristic in our attempts to express that failure. For a while, we could find relief in small wars against people and in football holliganism. You will seldom find any Brits who are really anti-war .... we love wars and have fought more of them than any country in history.
Now, we have a PC society that is essentially female-dominated. That's not some sexist statement, I am referring to social mores and customs, a collective belief in civic duty but without any corresponding responsibility to do things ourselves (there's always a 'system' to blame) etc.
This has meant that the latent aggression and violence that has bred into the population for generations upon generations is now turning in on itself.
Anyway.... rant over. :-[

But its true what you say about crime in the 19 century and before crime was worse than it is now but that applies to everywhere.

Re: Anyone elses neighborhood gone to S***?
The UK sounds like a seriously unfunny joke with all of these dullard and hopeless youths. Respect for authority is seriously lacking.
Korea might not be the most exciting place, but I do really like the free and easy way I can live here. Crime is so minimal. Of course there is crime but you would never recieve a verbal diatribe from a teenager with rampant hormones. Korea has a strong sense of the family unit and it is the respect for the elder generation that keeps it cool.
There sure are no kids hanging out on street corners and the worst you are likely to get is a friendly " Hi!".
Im not coming back to the UK anytime soon, If ever at all.
I get BBC entertainment out here and its an awful channel. All they ever show is crime dramas. A nation polluted with this crap is definitely not healthy. Just a minor observation there. The Korean dramas are so tame and reflect much more hope.
With the news, media and tv back home its a constant spiral of morbundity and negativity.

Re: Anyone elses neighborhood gone to S***?
Yes, we Brits love rules. We like being told what to do and what our place in society is. We invent 'systems', 'processes' and beaurocracy in order that we don't need to excercise discretion or common sense - the 'system' will find the answer for us.
Unfortunately, we are amongst the worst beaurocrats in the world, in terms of efficiency. We also then follow the rules at the expense of fairness and natural justice.
People then either lose faith in those systems or begin to play the rules to their advantage, thus dropping out of taxpaying or law abiding society.
Our consumerist society has evolved to the point where people have an unrealistic sense of entitlement, or they are deluded about their net worth to society and the world. This inevitably leads to anger and bitterness about material wealth (or fame), but without any sense of responsibility or any concept of sacrifice or work to reach that goal.
You see evidence of this everywhere:
- parents blaming schools or society for their childrens behavioural problems
- people going on reality TV shows to 'get famous'
- a civil service that is wholly out of touch with society, staffed be people whose job is to 'follow rules', not actually think about outcomes
- an education system in disarray
- rising crime and a generation of abandoned feral youth.
