Sorry if this has already been posted, I couldn't find it, but according to Boxingtalk Vargas - Mayorga is off/being postponed due to Vargas suffering from a low red blood cell count.

CC that is news to me and very disappointing. I was looking forward to this fight and the undercard
I think low red blood cell count = weight issues ;)
Hahah, probably. I'm not a fan of either fighter, but I was really looking forward to this fight as well. I think Vargas would've worked Mayorga.Quote:

Yeah maybe its for the best. I mean this match up was kinda slipping under the radar.
A bit of disapointment like this isnt so bad.
Very frustrating. It's not good for the career of VArgas.
hate to say but i think his carrer is over
sad for Vargas. This might be a stunt from Vargas having trouble losing all that weight!! ??? Nobody knows?????

I can't imagine anybody would give him too much credit for winning against a fighter at a ridiculous catch weight that belongs at 147 and gave up all his power by going up to 154.
I've seen pics of Vargas somewhat recently, and he got way too fat. There is no way a fighter can get as fat and out of shape as Vargas was and turn around to condition himself to be a quality fighter in a matter of a couple months.
Mayorga could have came in 20 pounds lighter, pimped Vargas, and cash out on beating a big name opponent.
Vargas did the smart thing................ He was too out of shape to get back in the ring so he canceled the fight with some low red blood cell excuse. (read the symptoms for low red blood cells and it sounds like obesity) It's much better for him to retire instead of losing to a C+ fighter like Mayorga, when all Vargas has lost to in the past was A fighters.
Good point. I too agree it was a weight issue. That's too many pounds to lose. We saw what happened to Tarver against Hopkins when he had to lose a large amount of weight for a fight.Quote:

Big shame, I was looking forward to this. Lets wait and see though it might be a stunt.
The fight was set at 162lbs if I'm not mistaken, if weight is still the issue then Vargas needs to quit right now.
Just look at the movie Alpha dog. He looked fat and sloppy....oh yeah, and his acting sucks.Quote:

Im a little let down that this fight is off. It will have been the first biggie fight in a while and a really fun one at that.
I'm freakin pissed that this fight got cancelled. Mayorga is my favorite fighter, I wish they would get a substitute in there for Mayorga to fight, how bout Cory Spinks like someone else suggested, or if his crybaby ass isn't available on such short notice how bout someone like Jose Antonio Rivera, who was supposed to fight Mayorga a few years ago, but Mayorga didn't make weight, or Alejandro "Terra" Garcia, who mouthed off bout Mayorga a couple years ago and is also a big puncher, or even Travis Simms who is looking to redeem himself off his last loss, he must still be in the gym. All four of these men are Don King promoted fighters and all four would make a great replacement for Fatty Vargas.
