Who will Oscar fight?
With Cotto V Mosley on November 10th and Mayweather V Hatton on December 8th where does this leave DLH with an opponent next year? It is obvious that the two winners of these fights will fight each other in April or May. Who does Oscar fight if he comes back? He says he isn't going to retire and he won't get any of the four fighters above by April/May, the only options i see for him is Winky or Forrest at 154.
Time is running out for the Golden Boy, he is 35 early next year!

A joke? Do you have any idea about who he defeated and who he can still defeat?

He just lost a close decision with Mayweather (p4p #1 ;)) and looked damn good in knocking out Mayorga the fight before that.
Oscar isn't close to being done, and I think he's much more of a threat at welterweight (where he's headed) than jr. middleweight (where he just came from)
The only welterweights I see beating Oscar are:
Mayweather
Williams
Judah
That's it.

sorry bro' no way in hell do I see Judah beating Oscar. Not at 147. Maybe not even at 140. I honestly think Oscar can still beat anyone with the exception of Floyd. If they fight again, Floyd will fight him the same and Oscar will as well. Oscar is one of the best in preparing for a fight. Oscar has never been dominated in any fight 154 down. He has been out performed, but never dominated. I think he could out smart Williams in the ring, knock Cotto out early, and possibly win a close decision with Mosley if they fight their trilogy. Oscar has a great performance or great KO still in him, the question is....Who will be his victim?
-
Re: Who will Oscar fight?
I agree Eli. I still believe Oscar did good against Mayweather.Against lesser opponent, he would still prevail.
-
Re: Who will Oscar fight?
He's not done but the chance for mega fights are.
Theres no 'big draws' left at 154 to fight for big £££ and im not sure he can make 147.
Maybe one more stint up at 160 against Jermain Taylor? Although i admit, im only saying that cause I really dont think much of Taylor ;)

Re: Who will Oscar fight?
There aren't many people for Oscar to face. He won't fight Cotto/Cintron because of the whole "his wife is PR therefore he cannot fight a PR fighter", he won't fight Mayweather or anyone similar because he already said he wants to fight against someone who will stand and trade so that leaves Williams(HIGHLY unlikely), Hatton(I think he is the most likely even if he loses to Mayweather) and guys like Clottey and Margarito(a Margarito fight would be awesome especially for Mexican fans plus I don't think he'll find someone who'll stand there more than Tony).
I fancy Oscar over Hatton for sure but I'd back Margarito/Williams to beat him.

I think Margarito would be his solution, but he is going to need Maragrito to beat a Judah or something to move right back up to the top. Margarito has gone downhill since that loss.

I too think Margarito is his best solution, and like I said,a Mexican v Mexican fight like that would be awesome! I agree,Margariot needs to beat Judah/Cintron to get back into the mix.

Millie knows Cotto will beat the shiet out of Oscar De La Hoya ;) It has nothing to do with both Cotto and Millie being PR's. She knows what time it is. She did not prohibit ODLH from fighting the so called greates fighter ever (PBF) because she knows he is a FRAUD and he was not going to do shiet to Oscar for 12 rounds other than just pot shot his way to a close decision.

lol,dam right brother,he knows, win, lose or draw v Cotto,he's coming out with a busted face and body.Secondly,Millie told him to retire after the Mayorga fight and he said he'd listen. Same after the Floyd fight. We know the score ;) :D

Oscar's wife went through alot when Oscar fought Tito. I think they were just dating but she went through hell. Especially after they tagged Oscar with that CHICKEN DE LA HOYA SHIT. HAHAHAHA. I believe he doesn't want to put her through that again, although Oscar will have plenty of Puerto Ricans backing him up if he fights Cotto. Not as much, but plenty. He might have em all if he fights Cintron!!
-
Re: Who will Oscar fight?
ummm actually no she didn't because they started dating right before his first fight against Mosley :-\
-
Re: Who will Oscar fight?
Margarito is a really good opponent for ODLH at this point, I agree. He would have to beat Judah as said earlier, or Cintron again. Cintron I believe would beat Marg this time around though. Marg vs. Collozo, ?Quartey? perhaps would help his ranking?
At this point I clearly don't see ODLH beating Winky, Mosely, Williams, Cotto, or Forrest. He possibly could beat Clottey but I would not bet on it. Hatton is someone he could probably beat because of the size difference.
Although Oscar is aging, he has no problem with long periods of inactivity these days and will wait for an opponent that he can either beat or one that will draw lots of PPV. Cotto would fall into the latter category and Hatton would fit both.
Unrelated but I think Forrest v. Quartey should be a rematch. First, the first fight was a robbery for Forrest. Second, I see Forrest as being vastly better than he was on that night so he could seal his first victory since his injuries problem is over. Thirdly, I see it as an even fight that would be interesting.

Re: Who will Oscar fight?
my only problem is that i think the question should be who will fight oscar. it makes me sick how even when he loses he gets to pick which top fighter he wants to fight.

He has the money and the influence to do the selecting. Like what a very corrupt politician I know always say "What are we in power for"....

Re: Who will Oscar fight?
I'm just throwing this out there but what about Spinks? Good story behind him, performed well against Taylor!
-
Re: Who will Oscar fight?
I've read he wants to fight Ricky Hatton in Wembly stadium after Ricky knocks-out Floyd ;D

I think DLH would be way to much for Hatton! But the $$$ it would make would be crazy. It's a pity Floyd's gonna spoil it all!

Re: Who will Oscar fight?
If it's at 147 I'd love to see Oscar fight Kermit Cintron or Zab Judah, just for the sheer hell of it to see what happens. At 154 I'd like to see him fight Corey Spinks, that's be fascinating. There's 3 younger guys where your not sure what the hell happens in the fights, and they are perfect measuring sticks, big enough names to sell and all hungry for the big money fights.
-
Re: Who will Oscar fight?
However if I'm in the mind set of Oscar and Schafer then he's bound to fight Quartey again. That's an easier win yet still has credibility because some people think Quartey won, so they can use that angle to sell the fight, which at the thought of this makes me want to :puke:
-
Re: Who will Oscar fight?
I think Quartey would give Oscar a real fight. Wasn't his last fight (or that I know of) with Winky?? He didn't look awful considering going up in wieght and opposition.
-
Re: Who will Oscar fight?
I think it is pretty obvious that Oscar will fight Hatton at 147 next. Regardless of what happends in December. It is not like a loss in the opponents record has ever stopped DLH before. And there is no guarantee that the winner of Hatton/Maywether will fight the winner of Cotto/Mosley. This is just an ideal scenario for us boxing fans but many times boxing is not that simple and things get in the way. How many of us, myself included, were calling the hole Williams/Margarito/Cotto/Judah fights a tournament?
It is likely that if Mosley wins and if Maywether wins they may fight. But there is one very big if and one possibly troublesome if here and it is still not a done deal that it will happen.
I am 100% sure that Maywether did not bring more money to the table than DLH did. This is all part of the plan. DLH wants Ricky to fight Maywether. It give Ricky huge exposure to the american public. The best case scenario for him is to fight a smaller man who will bring the fight to him and has just beaten the #1 P4P. A victory will give him that all elusive career defining win against a top fighter in his prime. The worst scenario is to fight the smaller man who just fought the #1P4P fighter and gained more american popularity to add to his already huge fan base for trying to make a fight against PBF. Either way the fight will be a huge money maker.
All the talk from DLH, the move down to 147, the rumors about Wimbley arena, it all points to one thing. Oscar Dela Hoya vs Ricky Hatton sometime early next year.
-
Re: Who will Oscar fight?
Oscar De La Hoya should grow some ball and tell his wife where to stick it. If he wants to fight Cotto so be it, so what if hes PR its not like hes related to his wife in any way. Cotto v De La Hoya would be a great fight and Oscar wouldnt be that much bigger than Cotto like he is compared to Hatton. Hatton cant fight a big WW as his physical advantages and rough house tactics wont work. Collazo pushed Hatton all the way De La Hoya will send Hatton into retirement. I think whoever loses the Cotto v Mosley fight will face Oscar its the logical option for both men as they will both be coming off losses and both Cotto and Mosley are a bigger draw than Margarito, Williams ....
-
Re: Who will Oscar fight?
I think he should give Sturm a rematch ,but we know that wont happen. I like Oscar but he was given a gift that night and I dont think anybody that saw that fight could disagree. He lost and he should try to avenge it.
-
Re: Who will Oscar fight?
First of all, too many of you are giving Oscar too much credit for his performance against Mayweather. Though the judges ruled it a split decision, that fight was as unanimous as any Mayweather win in recent memory. Perhaps it was ruled a split decision so that interest may be generated for a second fight in the near future. Second, in terms of who will be Oscar's next opponent, the question is, who will make Oscar the most money? Right now, the best money making opportunities for Oscar are Hatton, Cotto (especially if they defeat Mayweather and Moseley respectively), and Mayweather. A second fight between Floyd and Oscar will not generate the pay per view buys their first fight did, however, it will still generate a good deal of money. So for Oscar, it all depends on if he dares step in the ring with bruisers like Cotto and Hatton (we know he'll get in the ring again with light hitting Floyd).

You guys seriously think Oscar can make 147?

I don't see why some of these people want Oscar to fight Spinks it would be boring fight and Spinks would make Oscar look bad he has the style to do so if i was Oscar that would be the least fight i would be thinking of.

Oscar v. Wlad. If you really want the money, you should really get the pain. ;D

He won't make 147lb again, he's dreaming if he thinks he can make that weight comfortably.
He is 35 years old early next year and it's 154 for him or nothing, he won't fight again at 160.
Forrest is already there at 154 and he has a belt! Winky could make 154 easy so IMO these are the only two fights open to him.
-
Re: Who will Oscar fight?
Id say Judah but hes a tough sell right now cause he hasnt won a fight in a couple of years, so Judahs out. Vernon Forrest would make for a good fight but I cant see that happening at Welterweight. I guess there isnt a good fight out there for him unless Hatton pulls off a huge upset over Floyd.

If it's a Spinks fight or retirement I'd take the Spinks fight. I ain't gotta pay to see it and I'd like to see what would happen, why wouldn't you want it to happen over no fight at all?
For purely selfish reasons I'd hate Oscar to fight Vernon Forrest becuase I think Oscar would be handed his ass.

Dan you must be like me.......I was really impressed with Forrest against Baldo. He looks like he is really back.

Absolutley it was like a rebirth for Vernon Forrest, he looked like the p4p material that took Mosley to school in that fight. Obviously Baldomir ain't the best but compared to his struggle with Quartey he was like a new fighter.

I would not want to see this. It would be a replay of De la Hoya - Sturm with Oscar losing more clearly this time.

Perhaps it would be, but whats wrong with winky winning?
