Re: Mosley arrives in Puerto Rico!
Shane is for sure a class act, as is Cotto. I can't wait for this fight also, as it will be a barn-burner. I feel Shane will win, but either one winning will make me happy. Nice to see fighters giving respect to their opponent before the fight.
-
Re: Mosley arrives in Puerto Rico!
yea me too i cant wait for this fight. I think mosley will knock cotto out. Cotto has a weak chin and with mosley's speed i think he can knock him out.
-
Re: Mosley arrives in Puerto Rico!
Yes I cant wait for this fight. I am a massive Hatton fan but I think this fight will be so much better to watch than Hatton/Mayweather as both fighters can bang and like to come forward. I feel Mosleys speed and footwork will be too much for Cotto in the end and I think Shane will get the KO in the later rounds. Both fighters are top body punchers as well so I just see there being foreworks through out this fight!!

Re: Mosley arrives in Puerto Rico!
The countdown is on! The countdown is on for my 2 favorite fighters to go head 2 head. I said if Cotto loses, I hope it's to someone with class like DLH or Mosley, but come NOV 10th, will all do respect to Mosley, Cotto will prevail. He will consistently use his jab and once again prove to many wrong with his skills. Continued to be underrated by many, continued to be viewed as "no chin" and 1 dimensional but yet fighters have a tough time with him in the ring. Mosley will land early, but will frustrate like always late in fights when he can't figure a fighter out (Wright - Forrest 2 times). Once again, a great star will be born at the garden come NOV 10th. This is a fight Cotto has been waiting for his whole career!! Trust me, the boxing world is in for a big surprise!!

I actually think I want to see this fight more than any other this year by far and that's saying alot considering we've had and still have ALOT of great great fights. There has been a truck load of graet fights this year. quite a few ive yet to get a proper look at. My DVD collection will be banging by the end of the year! ;D
This Mosley Cotto fight though... Its one of those fights that just cannot fail to excite. And no way will it fall short of expectations :)

Yeah its crazy, just feel like i got a clear picture of that fight in my head. If theres two guys who i fully understand in the ring, its those two.

Re: Mosley arrives in Puerto Rico!
I think this fight, along with the Pavlik JT fight, will challange Marques - Vazquez 2 for fight of the year in a year of great fights.
This is IMHO the best match up of the year. The young, strong and undefeated new champion against the older, more experianced, yet still strong and fast former champion. Also, Cotto might be young but he has already had some good experiance. He has handled slick boxers, he has gotten up from a KD and won, he has delt with adversity and prevailed and is a two division champion. Mosley Has been up against the best and won his share. He is Cotto's gateway to the elite level.
If Cotto wins, he will be in that class of elite. If he loses he will be on that second level of Judah, Vargaz, Mayorga. Good champions that come one step short of greatness. I say he makes it through, but barely.

Re: Mosley arrives in Puerto Rico!
If Cotto loses i wouldnt put im on level with Judah.Cotto was a heart and always turns up to fight even when things look bad in a fight he still fights back and doesnt look for away out.

Yea i agree. I feel that if Cotto looses (which i think he will), that ellite status that a lot of people are wanting him to receive will come to him eventually. It'll just be a case of not this time around. (Especially when people see that Mosely really is a rejuvinated Welter)
In Judas case, it was your time expired long ago.

Re: Mosley arrives in Puerto Rico!
Im fan of both fighters equally but Mosley will win he has the speed and power to ko Cotto i know Cotto can bang but he gets hit too much and his defence as some bad flaws that i think Mosley will take advantage of so Mosley by tko late or decision win.
Can't wait for this fight i think this will be fight of the year.

Re: Mosley arrives in Puerto Rico!
Mosley's past his prime. He should give Cotto a few hard moments but Cotto's going to beat him. Only way Shane wins is if he does something no one else has done and thats test the gut of Cotto.

Cotto has suspect chin he has been hurt by alot lesser fighters than Mosley it doesn't matter if Mosley is bit past his prime he still has the speed the power and the chin.

Call me an old head but I liked it better when SHane Mosley would go to the body 10 our of 12 rounds(if it lasted that long)
People are gonna test Cotto's chin he's already been down his chin's already been tested and what happened when it was tested? He got up and won.
Just because he can be put down doesn't mean he can be sparked out.
So if the chin is weak but he's already shown to get through it then test another body part like the body, that way if you DO put him down late he'll have less stamina too.
See where i"m getting at?

I know what your saying bro but i still think Cotto has suspect chin i see feather fisted Paul Malignaggi rock Cotto i think Cotto is classic case of having weakish chin with big heart i would like Mosley to test his body i think Mosley will go to body Cotto will close the distance in about 4 rounds and then we will start to see a brawl question is has Mosley got it in him for another war ?? by the interviews it seems that way he seems very up for the fight.
Just because he can be put down doesn't mean he can be sparked out.
Don't think Mosley will spark him out but i think he will knockdown Cotto at some point and stop him late on.

Alright thats as far as offense. But to beat Cotto you have to have a little bit of defense, Mosley hasn't shown defense recently, thats a problem. What do you think?

I see Cotto jabing alot as he keeps Mosley's speed limitted early. Very cautiously. If Mosley doesn't take adavtage early in the fight, he will struggle to figure out Cotto's style of fight. Just because they brawl and Mosley has a better chin doesn't mean he'll prevail! Mosley will show signs of fatigue and frustration late in the fight as Cotto gets stronger and stronger. This is Cotto's life waiting chance at superstardum. He'll be in the best shape ever. I don't see Cotto being hurt throughout the fight! He will be focused.

I totally agree with on this Mosley hasn't shown any recently but Cotto hasn't exactly got a good defence either Mosley will have to keep circling Cotto and use his athletism and keep them hands up even though Mosley is old don't let that fool you he still is much faster than Cotto i think Mosley should try and catch Cotto cold like Judah did and Judah did have alot of success early so Mosley should get some respect from Cotto early keep circling Cotto so Cotto can't sit down on his punches and Mosley needs to work his jab and do some combos to the body and head and stick and move and for Mosley's sake i hope he keeps them elbows tucked in.

Re: Mosley arrives in Puerto Rico!
This fight will be like the one with Judah except Mosley will not wilt under Cotto's constant pressure. Unless Cotto has addressed those defensive issues he is going to taste a LOT of leather and Mosley is going to be there all night long. And Cotto is going to hit low a couple times. Mosley is going to be the real winner but it will be a controversial decision loss in favor of Cotto.

I never said that he can't...I'm saying that he won't. Just because he's been hurt against lesser fighters doesn't mean he is automatically going to be hurt by a Mosley punch. He was hurt because he underestimated his opponents and got caught off guard plus most of them were in 140(A weigh in which he struggled to make). Judah rocked him but never hurt him. Cotto says it himself. He knows that he is going into the ring with someone who could hurt him. He will be focused and prepared.

Where have I heard before that one of Cotto's opponents had too much speed and power? OH, when Cotto got it on with Judah. Cotto handled Judah's speed very well, though Judah was able to land some flush shots that did not hurt Cotto whatsoever. Now, Mosley is better than Judah, but only stronger and not faster. I say the fight goes the same way like the Judah fight, but Mosley will be able to come out with out getting KO'd.

You may of heard it before but Mosley is alot better than Judah and this fight will not be anything like Cotto vs Judah fight Judah stopped throwing punches and broke down mentally like he always does when the pressure is on.

Re: Mosley arrives in Puerto Rico!
Well Mosley's best punch is, I think, the overhand right. Cotto should be able to avoid this if he keeps his hands up and chin tucked like he usually does. Every time Cotto gets caught it is with an uppercut. He is very vulnerable to this punch. If Mosley goes to the body consitantly and then brings that uppercut to the head, Cotto will be in big trouble.
If that does not happen I see Cotto wearing him down on his way to a close decision. Cotto's strong jab will be a factor again and his body punching is seccond to none. If Mosley expects to win he needs to be ready and willing to take a beating in the process. Is he still willing to do this, especially in this point in his career? He was very tentative against Forrest once he got hurt and that was at his prime...

ICB you got a good point, but please don't down play Cotto's win against Judah. Judah did real good in that fight and at no time did I get the impression he had broken down mentally. Did it ever occur to you that maybe he stopped throwing punches because he was getting hurt.

Very well put. I think you're the first person who talks about Cotto and his jab other than me. I've said it since the fight was signed that Cotto will use his jab alot early in the fight and will then frustrate Mosley when he then begins to attack late in the fight. Everyone says he has no weaknesess but fail to see that he has no solution to a consistent jab nor has a solution when he is struggling to land a punch.

Im not trying to downplay it as Cotto fan myself i was pleased Cotto won and was very impressed with both fighters but facts are facts Judah broke down like he always does when he is hurt or pressure is on and stopped throwing punches and threw little amount and couldn't keep Cotto off him Mosley would not do this.

Re: Mosley arrives in Puerto Rico!
The problem i have is that i think people are giving Cotto too much credit/props for his win against Judah. Don't get me wrong...Cotto is a great fighter with a big heart. But defeating Zab doesn't make him a world beater. Zab is mentally one of the weakest fighters in the sport. He has never been able to rise up on the big stage and his breakdown is almost programmed to happen in each fight. Yet despite all that...he still had one of his best showing against Cotto until he finally flamed out. Mosley is a completely different beast than Zab. He is obviously a tremendous and highly skilled athlete...but more than that...he is a great tremendous competitor. THIS is the fight that will prove what Cotto is made of and can handle. It will be by far his toughest fight. But I just don't see Cotto doing anything better than Shane...skill, speed, chin, power, etc. The only advantage Cotto has is his age. So unless Shane grows old in this fight...i see him winning.
By the way...the whole Cotto using his jab to win and frustrate is a bit ridiculous to me. Shane had major problems against Winky and Forrest. Those two fighters had great range and where technically great fighters. Cotto's length and jab aren't great enough to be the deciding factor.
-
Re: Mosley arrives in Puerto Rico!
You'r right about that last statement ICB. This all points to one thing. Both fighters are gonne get FWOKED UP big time. The question is, who makes it to the finish line. I love these kinds of match ups!!!!

Then I'm sure you'll be the first one to post a comment on NOV 11th and say "I was wrong and doubted Cotto's skills." Nearly everybody sees Cotto as just a brawler and a left hook body puncher. The man can box if he has to. Obviously he never has because he is always the stronger fighter and he knows he has to attack. With Mosley, he knows that Mosley posseses KO power and that is why he will use his jab and be catious early in the fight. Not all night long, enough to frustrate Mosley.

Let me say right here that having seen many of Cotto's fights, the Judah victory is not were I give him credit. I actually have felt for a long time that this guy has the ability to be the P4P best in the world. I think he'll beat Mosley. I'm from the UK...and I'm flying out for this fight. Thats how much I believe in his ability.

Re: Mosley arrives in Puerto Rico!
I can't see why Cotto is the betting favourite for this. I reckon Shane's fast hands and ring savvy will decide the fight.

I've been waiting for a long time too for Cotto to finally get his props. I think he should've already but knowing the boxing media and critics they always find something wrong. I'm sure after he beats Mosley we will begin to hear excuses that he beat up an old Mosley. That Mosley wasn't the same Mosley as before.
Not many people here know that Cotto is actually left handed in everything he does with the exception of boxing. He posseses power in both hands and that is why he switches to southpaw during fights. His right jab is just as effective than his left. He will switch many times stances throughout the bout and use his jab to confuse Mosley. He won't jab all night, but enough to keep Mosley from throwing his overhand right with consistency.

Re: Mosley arrives in Puerto Rico!
Totally agree BZKFN and EliJr, I think most people only jumped on the Cotto bandwagon/saw him from the Torres fight, maybe the Corely fight so they won't recall the Cotto that used to fight off the backfoot, the Cotto that some analysts used to say was far far too relaxed and needed to up the pressure and put his foot down!!!
How things change, the guy is a wrecking machine now but my point is,he's made out to be some guy that just walks forward etc and has nothing else. He does. He has multiple dimensions to his game and slowly is joining them together.
I want to see him utilise his jab,his switch hitting(which is not just for show but is dam effective ) and his straight right hand along with his left hooks. Earlier in his career,he used his right alot more,I'd like to see him make use of it here, surprise people inclduing Shane who is most likely primalrily going to prepare for the left hooks.
