Optional defense for Casamayor!
He;s going to face Jose Santa Cruz before he unifies v the winner of Diaz v Diaz. Good choice,he needs to stay active, especially at this age, He looked poor v a weight drained and totally ineffective Corrales so I wonder how he would do,at thi stage of his career,v someone live like Juan Diaz.
-
Re: Optional defense for Casamayor!
Casamayor should beat Cruz without much problems
-
Re: Optional defense for Casamayor!
In theory he should, but age and inactivity will catch him at some point. I just hope it's not in this fight!
-
Re: Optional defense for Casamayor!
Nice money making fights here for Casamayor...specially with a Diaz fight in Chicago.
-
Re: Optional defense for Casamayor!
Joel should have no problem with this fight...Then hopefully the fight with Diaz will be for big money.....Win or lose....IMO he will be retiring in a year or so....The sad part is Joel should of had many more high profile fights then what he has...He was or should I say has been an avoided guy for the most part....
-
Re: Optional defense for Casamayor!
I believe joel can handle santa cruz with few problems,he's rugged but normal and can be a good jump off point for casamayor vs. juan diaz.Dias Imo.is set to make a major impression and I dont think casamayor can keep pace, maybe hes never gotten his due but he is on the other side of the hill now.
-
Re: Optional defense for Casamayor!
Casa is no doubt the man to beat @ lightweight. But he aint gettin' any younger. He should start challenging the 3 or 4 guys behind him like the 3 Diazs.
-
Re: Optional defense for Casamayor!
Finally Casamayor fights again. I'm glad he finally found a fight, he's got to be one of the most ducked boxers in the sport. A great fighter who isn't a huge draw = ducked. His only losses have been extremely controversial, Casamayor is easily top 15 P4P, though he apparently didn't look too good against Corrales in his last match(I didn't see the fight).
-
Re: Optional defense for Casamayor!
It'd be nice to seem him win this, then go on to destroy David Diaz who is very lucky to be champion as...
A) Casamayor was stripped for no real reason at all
B) I thought Morales beat him by about 4 rounds, so how he was gifted that fight is beyond me.
If Casamayor is the force he claims to be, him and Juan Diaz would be a superb fight.
-
Re: Optional defense for Casamayor!
I think hes reaching the end of the road tho.
-
Re: Optional defense for Casamayor!
Santa Cruz isn't a bad fighter, this might actually be a fight he can win if Casamayor has slipped a bit. I've always liked him since him and Edner Cherry (who I actually thought won their contest) saved the Castillo - Reyes card by putting on a show. Very good fight that was.
Santa Cruz has skills, he just goes down a lot which I guess doesn't bode well for him. But he certainly has the skillset to hang with anybody who overlooks him. Unlike most optional defenses, this should end up on TV.
Just checked, it's on the undercard of Cotto - Mosley. Great matchmaking here and a real showcase for both guys and it will be an exciting fight. Given the big stage, Casamayor will probably KO him but Santa Cruz won't lay down and I'm sure he wants a rematch with Diaz who he was beating thoroughly before that uppercut from Diaz.
Good fight here, I'm looking forward to it.

Re: Optional defense for Casamayor!
I think Casamayor KO's Santa Cruz! Then moves on to the winner of Juan vs Julio.
I am disappointed that Casamayor isn't rematching Campbell, Campbell is fast becoming the most avoided fighter in the division IMO!

I Think you nailed it,this light divison can blow up and produce some major firework's.Campbell Throws from the seats,He can hurt any light he connects with.I still cannot shake loss's to pedan,ok the 2nd but that stupid s!!! in the 1st fight was insane.put any of these together and they work:casamayor-Juan diaz (ready to break out)-David diaz-Kid diamond(train wreck waiting to happen but exciting)-campbell-Katsidis(Seen him once,I'd pay again)-julio diaz(2nd life).....A.peterson,Etc.Etc.

That 1st fight with Peden threw things out the window for Campbell but he seems back on track now. I think your right that there are exciting fights to be made here. Katsidis/ Campbell would be a must see! Only I think Julio defeats Juan & goes in against Casamayor!
Plus your right Anthony Peterson is ready, & although I hate to watch him fight Raheem is gonna be tough for anyone!

I agree, that's why he should have fought Campbell.

Ohhh,Julio beats juan??Thats a bet I would Jump On.Hey,it Will Be an awesome Fight ,That pace &body work Are Brutal.Julio Is Improved ,But I believe Juan D.can handle his best.Funny,A year ago I was Laughing at Diaz, not so much now.
Casamayor, sharpens up against cruz,If He does not have a meltdown ???and juan diaz fight comes off,He's the kind of guy that diaz will have big problems with.movement, long power, experience and Joel's Guile will give The Baby Bull S!!! fits.

I give credit to Juan for the way he handle Freitas but had Freitas faced Casamayor like was originally planned I think Acelino would have been stopped by Casamayor too. The things you mentioned for Casamayor are the things I see Julio using to defeat Juan... movement, power, experience. Great fight the whole way I agree.

I,d imagine about The 5th or 6th he was thinking the exact same thing.after the corrales mugging I think he stopped wanting any part of boxing.

Re: Optional defense for Casamayor!
I'm dissapointed in casamayor in taking this interim belt. The WBC fucked him by stripping him in the first place, he has The Ring belt - and by alowing the likesof the WBC to strip him, but then try and regain it is adding to the problem partly. He is not the only one i know, but i thought Casamayor would of just gone for others rather than fight for interims etc to get a belt back that he got screwedover. Hope i'm wrong and he plans to win it to throw the piece of shit belt back at the WBC's face though.
-
Re: Optional defense for Casamayor!
Ya that would be sweet, I used to think that the WBC was quite the prestigious organisation, but its jus as crooked and jus as money orientateted as all the rest.

Campbell destroyed Raiymkulov who had drawn with Casamayor last. I agree Campbell lost to Casamayor but he is the best was the best available opponent IMO

Hey BZkfn, i think by mugging he was alluding to the dominance of Corralles rather than suggesting a robbery.
I only saw his recent fights at first, so i reckoned he had no heart then i saw the Barrios fight. hE'S AN EQUATION THAT JUS DOESN'T ADD UP

Re: Optional defense for Casamayor!
135 really isn't very good overall but there are some decent fights that could be made. I say throw in Campbell with Katsidis, see who wins, I assume it would be Nate but he can be a bit of a head case.
Would favor Juan over anyone in the division now that Casa's not really at his best anymore.

Are kiddin? Casa would be all over JD. Casa may be way older than Juan, but he still have enough mileage to devour anyone in his division. He aint worn out yet, so don't be fooled by his age.

I agree with Ouma. Juan is a bit special, and it's only a matter of time before he's breaking into top 5 p4p for me.

And just like Ouma your wrong. Casamayor is in another level than Diaz. There's a reason why Diaz keeps avoiding a match up with Casamayor.

Not kidding at all ;) "Casa would be all over JD", Casa is going to "devour anyone in the division?" C'mon now, he might outbox Diaz, he might still be able to outbox everybody in the division but he's not dominating people like Juan anymore. I'm a fan of Casa but come on now, he's been a great fighter but its not even like he dominated Kid Diamond or Nate Campbell, even though I thought he won both of those.
I just don't think this is the Casamayor of the first two Chico fights or the Castillo fight. I thought he looked a bit on the slide in the last Chico fight, its just that Chico had even less left IMO.

I'm not a Diaz fan but I think this version of Cas gets beaten by Juan. Joel was and is a superb boxer, totally skilled and has a great resume, ruined by some dodgy decisions BUT he looked very poor v a weight drained Corrales. He squeaked by.
However,it still speaks volumes for Casamayor's skill level that Juan has been hesitant and turned down offers from Joel as recently as this year to fight. That's telling me something.
-
Re: Optional defense for Casamayor!
Nice to se Joel getting active, he should beat Cruz relativly easily but I think the Diaz-Diaz winner (especially if it's Juan) will beat Casamayor
