Re: IS WITTER READY TO TAKE ON AMERICA?
Witter IS the elite at 140.

Re: IS WITTER READY TO TAKE ON AMERICA?
He would probably beat Torres but I'd take Paulie over him,Torres,Holt and the other UK champ,Rees I think his name is?

For a second there I thought you were saying Rees would beat Witter :D
I'd make Witter favourite against everyone at 140. His toughest fight would be Paulie cause the styles would make it a nightmare.

Re: IS WITTER READY TO TAKE ON AMERICA?
Witter has a long way to go before conquering America. He hasn't even conquered Britain.
-
Re: IS WITTER READY TO TAKE ON AMERICA?

He should avoid 147 at all costs i wouldn't mind Witter revenging his only defeat to Judah.

Well the only fighters that are still worth following at 140 are
Paulie Malignaggi, Ricardo Torres and Junior Witter.
Everyone else has been destroyed by Hatton, Cotto or Witter already, or moved up to 147.
There are other guys still in the division that show promise, but NOONE else I would consider to be elite.
ex. Gavin Rees, Gianluca Bronco, Colin Lynes, Ted Bami, Herman Ngoudjo, Juan Urango, Kendall Holt et. al.
-
Re: IS WITTER READY TO TAKE ON AMERICA?
If Witter is smart he'll sit back and watch Hatton get dominated by Mayweather. Once that happens Hatton-Witter will happen. For Hatton-Witter to happen, Hatton must lose to Mayweather. And he will.
-
Re: IS WITTER READY TO TAKE ON AMERICA?
Hatton wont lose to mayweather, it will be close but he wont lose. He will also see that the big money will be at 147 so he will stay there now, he should never have left really IMO. But even after this floyd fight there is a lot of good fights that could be made with Ricky Hatton. Witter isnt one at this momment. Hatton-Cotto sounds a lot more appealing to me.

For me, the light-welter division has taken a big dip over the past two years or so, and that is what has allowed Junior Witter to become the primo force there. Hatton has moved up, Tzsyu retired, Gatti fell from grace and Mayweather didn't want to stick around, Cotto has moved up, and those are an awful lot of big names to leave a division.
I do believe that Witter is probably the best Light-Welter in the world at the moment, with feather-fisted Paulie Malignaggi having been beaten by Cotto, and vulnerable to a puncher, and Torres still not having faced top-level opponents in the same range as Witter, although his resume remains a little bare.
The question really should be, is there anyone in America that can really progress Witter's career, or would he also be better off stepping up and competing at welterweight?

Witter take on America?
He tried that fight...& got his ass handed to him by Judah...but Judah was in his prime back then.
Witter should do some work in his home spot...he could do some good in Hatton's place.
I like Witter's chances...I'd actually like to see him in with Hatton.

But you got remember Witter took the Judah fight with only a weeks notice. Judah took it with ah....damn he only had a weeks notice to. So much for that excuse.

Believe you me...I would have loved to have seen Witter beat Judah. I was honestly pulling for Witter & would love some redemption...but...unfortunately...he did not win thin & I honeslty don't think that a Witter Judah rematch would be a waste of Witter's time.

Re: IS WITTER READY TO TAKE ON AMERICA?
Witter would give any of the big names problems and beat most of them ;)
too much attantion is paid to his judah fight.... i'm not 100% sure but if i remember right Zab was the next big thing at the time and was coming over here to fight someone else and that fell through so witter stepped in to save the show at short notice... brave step from a 15 fight novice but one that has prob cost him a fortune in hinsight ;)
i like Witter V underated fighter just wish he'd keep his mouth shut sometimes ;)

The Judah fight was Witter's 18th pro fight. Judah had 22 fights coming in. Big difference.

i stand corrected but the difference is not too much mate as there alittle protected over this side of the pond so stepping in with someone of Zab's skills when your used to fighting guys with more losses than wins was a massive step up and was still a big gamble that they lost ;)
still rate Witter mate he just froze that night and put on a snooze fest... time will tell ;)

Good enough for me. I picked Harris to beat Witter. But to truth be told I was not disappointed to see Harris get his overrated knocked out. His excuses afterwards were just pathetic.

Yeah...four bouts between them aint a good stretch...but the protected issue does ring true bwoss.
Honestly...Witter could have beaten Judah had he applied himself...or maybe just put up a better fight.

Let's not get carried away now. Judah and Witter are both pretty much the same type of fighter. Judah just hits harder and is clearly faster. I can't see Witter beating Judah now or than

Re: IS WITTER READY TO TAKE ON AMERICA?
funny i still rate Zab highly... he just keeps getting beat ;D
still rate his skills and think his showing against Mayweather was better than most expected... apart from me i expected him to win ;D

So do I, and so does Ring Magazine (#5 last time I checked)
He looked as good as anybody ever has against Mayweather, and he was whipping on Cotto until all of the illegal punches.
Zabs still a top fighter in the best division in boxing.
-
Re: IS WITTER READY TO TAKE ON AMERICA?
All hate & loathing aside, I just can't believe that people rate him, especially due to the fact that he buckles like a belt when pushed.

Zab Is so up & down it's hard to keep up.He does look frail and there to get got by any of the current top ten welts.Early on ,I did not care for him at all as well. Then slowly I came around to a different way of thinking.
After the tszyu fight,I Laughed.Great victory In 2nd Spinks fight (get that man some tissues),Baldomir Just Ambushed Him & sent him spinning back down the hill. His first 4 rnds vs. pretty boy gave hope and then reality and superior skills took over.In his Most Brutal Fight,Vs.Cotto,I Gained emence Respect for him.Right Now,I do not See Him Beating any top Ten (o.urkal?? only seen him once)He'll Get a Big Payday On Name & Game and Go Down As An also ran who could never sustain against the best.
Maybe witter can Through Alot of Money at Him For A American Return And Get another Crack At Redemption.Zab Is Not What He Was,Witter Is Improved And The Harris Victory Was Impressive,I Think He Can Do some Things Vs. Zab Given Proper Prep Time.If Witter Does Come Over and Goes Top Ten,It Might as well Be Lazcano 1st.

To be fair though Wacko Witter was very green only having 17 pro fights i know Judah didn't have that many fights either but Witter has improved quite a bit since that fight i would give Witter very good chance vs Judah right now infact Witter should fight Judah right now and revenge his only loss.

Not that I'm a huge Witter fan but. I heard around here that he(Witter) was a last minute replacement in that fight.

Zab was scheduled to fight Jason Rowland on the card.
As you said - Witter had a weeks notice.. plus had never fought past 8 rds, had a stunning 4 KO's to his name and hadn't even fought for the British title.

You make me laugh VD, when your not being a coomplete nob jockey your very knowledgable poster who knows his shit.
But Junior Witter had been fighting in 4 and 6 rounders against local bin men, Zab Judah had been training for a 12 round fight and was a World Champion.

Re: IS WITTER READY TO TAKE ON AMERICA?
If the question is 'Is he ready to sell out a Stadium in America?' The answer is no.
If the question is 'Is he ready to take on anyone else at 140?' The answer is yes.
If I was Witter, I would be going after Paulie, then whoever has took Rees' belt of him

Who's fault that? You can't hold it against a fighter (Judah) cuz his opponent (Witter) was treated with kid gloves coming up. And it shouldn't be used as an excuse.

No not at all im not blaming Judah he went in there did his job. But Witter was thrown in at the deep end.
It would be like throwing Berto in with Cotto on two weeks notice.

I don't know about that. There's an 11 fight difference between Cotto and Berto. There was only 4 with Judah and Witter. If Witter was considered green. Than to a point than so was Judah. Bottom line is Judah dominated Witter than. And I think he'll do it again now.
-
Re: IS WITTER READY TO TAKE ON AMERICA?
Judah didn't dominate Witter. He won but Witter did well for someone at such a disadvantage.
It was a shit fight where the criticism Witter takes for it has gone over the top mostly by bods that haven't seen the fight. As usual.

I can't stand Witter, but I agree with this. At 140, there aren't many better. I'm about the only one around who thinks Torres is a little better. I just think he offers that little bit more in terms of action. With Torres, what you see is what you get but Witter blows hot and cold.

Here we go again. How was Witter any more at a disadvantage than Judah? Both only had a weeks noticed going into the fight. Both were still early in there careers. So how was Witter any more at a disadvantage than Judah?

Come on VD you honeslty believe that they were both at en equal disadvantage hand on heart?
Man mentally if anything:
" Junior Jason Rowland has pulled out against Zab Judah the IBF Champ and the guy there touting as the new Pernall Whittaker with power, they want to know can you fill in"
" What the fuck!!! What do you think coach? I was fighting the local car mechanic in a 4 rounder 3 weeks ago? Have i got a chance? "
" Well Junior starnager things have happened, if we loose we can come again your young and the experience might do you the world of good, if you loose well you lost against one of the bright young prospects in world boxing, and if you look good in defeat it will do you good in the long run."
When Zab is told of the change of opponent:
" Zab that British guy you were fighting has pulled out, they have brought some novice who has been fighting 4 and 6 rounders against no one, what do you think? "
" Well this guy sounds like a walk in the park bring him on"
;D

Zab was the IBF "world" champ. Witter had never fought past 8 rds or even fought for the the British title. He stepped in at late notice for the dosh. He's obviously learnt a lot from the fight.
