Just out of curiosity...I think we have the best forum out there...but something always seems to amaze me...

Why is it that when a guy/gal does not like a fighter EG lets say DLH ( a fighter I can care less about either way) they can not give them their respected dues anyway?

Yes they may be facing your favorite or something like that but that is no reason to not give them the respect they deserve

I am only using DLH because someone in a thread not too long ago stated he was over rated and even went as far as to say he was garbage?....This is a 6 time world champion!!!....you may not like him but that does not take away from what he has accomplished.....

I have seen it with other fighters as well. Barrera, morales, Hopkins, Taylor, Calzaghe ect

You may not have to root for them or do you have to like them but use boxing knowledge and give them their dues....You can not take away from what they accomplished and it only takes away from the quality of a post when comments like that are made....

I think generally that's what's missing.

I'll use myself as an example here:

When it comes to Floyd Mayweather (for those in the know, I've never capitalized his name and will continue not to henceforth). I love debating over him because all I have to say is that he doesn't impress me. This starts all kinds of crap and it makes me smile.

Never capitalizing his name and saying things about him automatically gets me labeled a "hater". Somewhere in there will be the "you know nothing" post and again, smiles all the way. I've never had to say he was garbage, just....his resume isn't that good. Oh my god I've just torn up a picture of the Pope on national TV, I've just slammed down a PR flag, I've just called the top p4p garbage how could I be so blind. The answer is, I'm not. I'm not blind, I'm not a hater, I AM however a non-believer. I don't believe he has proved what many other fighters (some even better than him) have proved. Guts.

No one, but NO ONE has ever asked or attacked what I feel his skill level is. There is the automatic assumption that I feel he has no skill. It couldn't be further from the truth. I've studied his career and I'm not impressed. I have never sat on the edge of my seat and thought "I can't believe he took this fight, this is gonna be tough". This is the same position I come at him in every post.

All of this doesn't mean I look at him as a bum. In fact, I think he is very gifted. I just want the same feeling out of him that I have received from every other fighter in this sport, including fighters like Ali, Lennox Lewis and Antonio Tarver who I also don't like. They all took those kinds of fights sometimes they won sometimes they didn't.

I do my homework before posting when necessary but sometimes you just got to accept that it's someone's opinion on the very same topic but it's different from yours.

Sometimes the facts are interpreted differently. Not wrong necessarily, just differently. Sometimes, whether we like it or not, disrespecting a particular fighter is part of the antagonism that goes along with part of the debate. I actually find it more offensive when someone disrespects another person on this forum.

Good topic DAXX and my apologies to everyone for the long winded post, it's just stuff that's been on my mind lately.

Castillo in his prime close first fight, floyd schooled him in rematch
Corrales in his prime, floyd destroyed him
Judah had just lost his WW championship
Baldomir was WW champ
DLH was 24 pounds above first fighting weight
Chavez in his prime threw hundred of punches, landed single figures
Gatti was on a winnig streak but shot after PBF fight
Corley had just lost sd to Judah, was destroyed by PBF and shot afterwards

There would onl be maybe a couple of fighters with Resumes as good as floyds, and none are undefeated like him...

I hear you Daxx, To me it just doesn't make sense that supposed fans of this sport deride and denigrate the sport's best combatants. How can posters join this forum, join threads on the improvement of the sport and attempt to "save" boxing, just turn around and talk neagtively of the sport's main assets.

When a poster claims that Mayweather is garbage/a runner/shit/a loser/crap fighter, do they not realise they are calling the games' best garbage/a runner/shit/a loser/crap fighter. For me when a supposed fan is heard belittling the best fighter in the sport or any other champion or contender it only serves to degrade the sport in the eyes of the general public.

Some times its hard because you may not know as much about a fighter as you thought, or an an impressionable person who has been influenced about someone without being bale to form your own opinioin.

I have done this my self at time with hopkins (even tho i have always respected the shit out of him in the ring) i have sometimes spoken without fully understanding certain things about him (still have some problems with things about him tho)

Well often a lot of the things we "know" about fighters are simply fabricated facts that we are led to believe by the propoganda pushing boxing media. HBO are very guilty, as are the Ring administrators and myself :)

I would say that that is what is great about boxing. I mean no matter how good a fuighter is no matter what he does how many weights he fights at there always going to someone who wont give credit were credit is due....And who cares thats why when he have a fight, we have Fans for one fighter...and Fans for another fighter.

I know mayweather has amazing skills and i love watching the guy fight but that dont mean i have to like the guy im always gonna be hoping for someone (hatton ;D ;D ;D) to come along and Spark him out..

And i Love Calzaghe but even if Kessler woops him bad im still gonna make excuses for him even if there aint none cos like i said thats what its all about...

I know what you are saying, but it goes further than posting on boards, I have seen and heard this often from writers on other sites.

Since I have been writing for Saddo I seem to see a lot of Steve Kim from another boxing site. He is pretty well regarded in the circle of writers on the west coast.

But he HATES Mayweather. No matter where we are, no matter what fight we are at, he is always hating on the man. Everything from, "He is the most boring fighter I have ever seen," to when they called him the P4P king at a press event he said, "What, is Pac Man here."

I just don't get how you can't give the man credit. Even if you don't like him, to not give him his due is idiotic.
