Chris Arreola - Future Heavyweight Champ?
So far he's come through every test asked of him and tomorrow night he fights another decent opponent in Thomas Hayes.
Has anyone seen him fight, and could he become the Mexican heavyweight hero?

Re: Chris Arreola - Future Heavyweight Champ?
I dont know lots about Chris, but from what i've heard he could win a belt. I mean any heavy with decent skill is a chance these days....

Re: Chris Arreola - Future Heavyweight Champ?
I wonder why Hayes has been fighting all bums since beating then 11-0 Chris Koval. Anyways, Arreola is immpressive but I dont like how his weight fluctuates so much. His last 4 fights have all been around 230 and he weighs 245 for this one. Id say maybe we are in for an upset but like I said Hayes has done nothing aside from one fight.

His weight is up 15 pounds? Maybe he has been getting some training from James Toney????

Re: Chris Arreola - Future Heavyweight Champ?
He has fought nothing but bums.
He wont get past someone like Samuel Peter.

With all the belts out there he doesn't have to beat Peter or Wladdy.

Re: Chris Arreola - Future Heavyweight Champ?
I think Arreola is a better prospect than Chazz Witherspoon, Malik Scott and some of the other youngsters
-
Re: Chris Arreola - Future Heavyweight Champ?
Yea Chaz Witherspoon sucks and couldnt break and egg , famous family getting him talked about hm.............i wonder lol ;D

Hey may be the heavyweight DHOP.......
-
Re: Chris Arreola - Future Heavyweight Champ?
I dunno hispanic dudes in the fight game are generally hard.
-
Re: Chris Arreola - Future Heavyweight Champ?
Arreola and Witherspoon are both very good.....Chazz needs to develop a bit more but I think he'll be much better than say Domonick Guinn or Audley Harrison which means AT LEAST he's a title contender.
Arreola is a pressure fighter and he needs to jump at the chance to fight the smaller heavyweights
No one has a shot vs Wladimir right now.....up to and including Corrie Sanders

Re: Chris Arreola - Future Heavyweight Champ?
Throw him in with Tua and see what happens, its not like Tua's been scintillating lately.
-
Re: Chris Arreola - Future Heavyweight Champ?
I like Arreola, exciting fighter. Would like to see him go far, but I don't see him becoming unified champ anytime soon.

lmao at "someone like peter"
Who the hell has peter dominated? jeremy williams? lmao...
Give this kid a chance...with alil time he might put a dent in the hwd. And probably have more talent that overrated samuel peter.

Yes that would be a good one Arreola vs Tua.

Re: Chris Arreola - Future Heavyweight Champ?
He can pick up one of those paper titles floating around. But Wlad eats him and any other heavy up right now.

Re: Chris Arreola - Future Heavyweight Champ?
Maybe an alphabet belt but not The Ring belt.

I seen Arreola fight twice. Looked a little sloppy to me both times, and despite his high KO percentage he doesnt have much power. He is mostly beating up on nodbody's
Who can say in a couple years. He has good size and alright speed but he hasnt fought any good opposition yet

Can you name a prospect who came up and didn't face nobodies? Arreola is facing bums. But he's doing what he suppose to do with them. He's knocking them out. But it is time he steps up the competition a little.

Re: Chris Arreola - Future Heavyweight Champ?
Arreola looked sound to me. has nice size , a good work rate, put mustard on his shots tonight. I like the way he got his leverage on the shots tonight . I like him a great deal ,
This kid Arreola had an exciting match vs. undefeated Damian Willis , a match that honestly saved the Mayweather - Baldmir card . .
some of you folks are being too critical on him,
The HW division needs more seek and destroy types like Arreola ..! High determination factor and a warrior mentality . as opposed to the hide behind your jab , and hope to win a 12 R decision type fighter mentality you see in so many HW’s today. . That 4 corners Manny Steward defense, does not put asses in seats.
Things are starting to change for the better in HW boxing.

People,
I wrote a decent opponent. This is not the same as a decent fighter. Get over yourselves.... ^-^
Most up and coming prospects fight the same retreads with 8-26-4 records. The fact that he's at least fighting someone who knows how to win and has beaten a couple of decent opponents himself should be applauded.
He's also fighting every other month which is a fair clip nowadays too.
He blew straight through Hayes so he stays on course. With the right marketing he could be a player in the division in the years to come. Mexican-US Heavyweight power puncher is like a white heavyweight in the 80's ;D

I didnt mean to be overly critical. I think Arreola is a good prospect. He has good work rate, size, and good speed for his size.
I didnt see his most recent fight against hayes, but the others I saw I thought he looked average. Both times he scored KO's without really connecting anything meaningful, his opponents just layed down b/c they didnt have the will to fight. That is more a reflection on them than him.
Kind of an arm puncher from what I saw, but maybe he is putting some more power in his punches now. Im sure he is improving and he is very active. But it is probably time he tested the water with some other prospects and step up the competition.

Re: Chris Arreola - Future Heavyweight Champ?
I've seen him fight, he is strong, has decent offensive skills for a heavy...but he stands too straight up, no head movement IMO

....Wladimir and some of the other guys are so tall they really don't need to move their heads.
Eddie Chambers doesn't move a whole bunch but he's hard as hell to hit.

I think Arreola beats Chambers without much problems

Re: Chris Arreola - Future Heavyweight Champ?
taan,
I was at a bar last night with friends and I sware they had the Dodger game on, I asked my waitress who was in charge of what channel is on the telies... She pointed to the manager.
I walked up to the manager and said, hello I was told your in charge of the channel on the telie. I said being as the Dodgers are just playing for kicks now, would you mind chaging the channel? Theres gonna be some boxing on in a few minutes?
Hes like what channel is it gonna be on? I told him the channel and he said OK let me see if it's on.
He walked to the back and changed the channel to boxing...
I grabbed a stool and sat right in front of the TV, I sat there throughout the whole card when the event ended it was 2 hrs. later ;D
About Arreola, I mean I think he needs to pick it up on the jab. He didn't throw it enough and when he did it worked wonders for him.
He also needs to work on his outside fighting, I would like to see him throw more combos and put punches together.

He's got a ways to go, for sure, and I agree he's exciting. His two biggest problems are that he is a bit slow, and like you said, he can be a bit of an arm puncher. I've seen his last few fights, and on the bright side, once he wares a guy down with volume and arm shots, it looks like he's starting to sit down on his shots once he smells blood. I see him ending up in the top 10, losing against the best, and evenually being a bit of gatekeeper to the upper echelon. He could have a nice little career as a more exciting version of Dominic Guinn.

You don't think Chambers handspeed and counterpunching would give Arreola fits? Chambers hasn't hasn't fought anybody with Arreolas output, and I think he could cause Chambers problems, too, but Chambers would be by far the best opponent Arreola has faced.

Garcia was a heavy who rose up threw the networks (usa T.n.f) Fighting alot of c level types and never weres. His biggest opponent leading into 93' was Ossie ocasio, former cruiser champ who was used up.None the less all three ranking organizations had him in the top ten.The W.B.C had him behind only Holyfield and Tony tucker and Garcia #3.There were talks and offers about him fighting Foreman or Holmes for about $500,000 but he and his camp thought he needed more work? An honest assesment but A lesson learned.
In june of 93' and at 32-1 26 kos he took a "tune up" against 10-8 Mike dixon while waiting for a shot.Dixon was another cruiser who jumped to hvy for paydays vs.then prospects like C.sanders,Bruce Seldon,Lennox Lewis,Ray Mercer Etc."The SanFernando Hammer" did what he did best, come forward behind a so/so jab and a Big right hand, plodding ahead looking for the KO.Midway through the 2nd Dixon Spins off the ropes, gets alex Backing up and wings a Left hook that Finds Garcias high temple,KTFO,alex got up woozy and Dixon finished him.Huge Upset at the Time....But was it really?Another case of shiny win/ko records Do not mean everything, and one to many journeymen "stay busy"fights can catch up to you.
Garcia was a strong puncher and a really nice guy but as one deminsional as they came.He was built on alot of vicious KO's and Tv freindly style. He never would get close to the top ten again or come close to making that big payday he missed. He came back the next month to face James Warring(former cruiser champ)and was held to a Draw followed by an embarrasing TKO 2 against jouneyman bullbozer in Garing Lane.Got descent wins over tough guy Joe Hipp and Slickster Buster mathis Jr. as well as rematch win over 10 With dixon.Made a comeback In 05' and got poleaxed by a 4-10 fighter!!lesson learned....you can fight all the bums you want but when you get rankings and offers....TAKE THEM.Tomorrows In this sport are not Guarenteed.

I remember Garcia well, with his nice tattoo across his chest.
I don't think Garcia had much of an amateur history whereas Arreola does. Just because Garcia failed (along with 1,000 other heavyweight prospects) doesn't mean that Arreola has to follow the same way. It doesn't mean anything either way. Not sure why you posted this but good luck to you ???

after I posted ,I saw that mad-Dog thought I was talking about alex TERRA Garcia.Hey ,I Saw "fill me In ",so I did.I like to keep things In Perspective when We start talking about "The Next Champions","The Next Sugar Something",Etc.I Just have a big mouth Lol ;D
I dont see Arreola as the Next Garcia though, and thats good.Ive seen him about 4 times and He Is A real future threat. He has size,Power,And easily is a fan favorite.I see him get To wild and smothers alot of what could be power from the outside. He is a finisher and looks to have a solid chin. Solid compititon is vital though, and soon. Not to mention His Glare and stare that can make a man question his own heart.INTIMIDATING!!

Re: Chris Arreola - Future Heavyweight Champ?
I appreciate everyone's reply. I haven't seen him myself except for some grainy Utube images. Thanks to you all.
It seems that most people don't think he can compete with the Eastern Europeans but winning ain't everything (although its fairly important ;D). Just having this guy compete at an exciting world class level can aspire more big US-Mexican fighters to the ring. There's some big, tough esse's in Cali & Texas who would be an exciting addition to the sterile heavyweight ranks...
