No.

Re: Kerssler faster than Calzaghe???
No Kessler does not have more hand speed than Calzaghe. But that won't stop him from knocking out Joe

I don't think Kessler has firepower to KO Calzaghe but i do think Kessler will win by decision because Calzaghe is getting old and his hands have been getting even worse he hardly landed anything solid on Manfredo and broke his hands i see a decision win for Kessler its about time a new champion took over from Calzaghe.

I couldn't really careless what he has to say all i know is i've seen plenty of Kessler and Calzaghe fights and he isn't faster than Calzaghe in combos or in single punches simple as.
I've heard alot of sparring stories or rumors fact of matter is just watch both fighters and you can clearly see Kessler isn't faster than Calzaghe.

People often forget, that he doesnt change his gameplan totally.. he adjust just a little bit, according to whom he fights..
lets take an example beyer vs andrade..
versus beyer he relied a lot on strength, his training was designed as such, he knew he would be stronger.. that made mikkel a little more stiff, but didnt matter, as his speed was better then beyers anyways, so he relied more on standing infront of beyer, just waiting for the opportunity..
andrade is a total different story, andrade was one tough sob, they knew he would keep coming, the gameplan changes, so does kesslers training.. and accordingly kesslers movement became more fluid, and instead of moving backwards planting the backfoot ready to counter, he used a lot more side movement, getting andrade of balance and countering him all the time.. i
kessler has previous stated, that for a match against joe, he will prepare with training based on gaining speed and better movement.. so as the plan changed from beyer to andrade, so will the gameplan against joe.

Re: Kerssler faster than Calzaghe???
In the flurry dept it's all Calzaghe.
Who has overall faster hand speed?
My eye does not have a digital radar that gives me a read about how fast these mens jabs, hooks, crosses and right hands are moving but I will say they both have decent hand speed.
Kessler will fair far better than Lacy or Manfredo did, That much I know for sure. LMAO
It should be an interesting fight. As long as Calzlappies fragile hands hold up he should win a decision over Kessler.

Re: Kerssler faster than Calzaghe???
Speed wont bother kessler, he fought mundine and dealt with his speed well. And mundine is alot quicker than calzaghe ;)
-
Re: Kerssler faster than Calzaghe???
If you by into the theory that a great jab can neutralize speed, Kessler should have a pretty good chance. I'm not sure Joe has ever been in with a guy whose jab is as fast and strong as Kesslers.
Not that I'm picking Kessler...yet. I'm just getting a strange, gut feeling, that Kessler can pull this one out.
-
Re: Kerssler faster than Calzaghe???
I would say Kessler also , but Im pretty biased here :o. Apart from that I still believe Kessler will have a rough time with the workrate of Calzaghe. I simply cant see him winning on points in Cardiff. Had it been in Copenhagen then maybe.
But I think Kessler will rely on his power and try to stop Calzaghe.
Any takes if the speed is the way to go against Calzaghe ?

??? Calzaghe has the fastest hands at SM easy...its not just his hand speed that makes Joe though it his ability to put togethor stupid combos...he will just throw in the 11hit combo step off and then come back for more...If you wanna slug it out with him hell stand there and slug it out...I mean was going toe to toe with jeff lacy once or twice.
He was to much speed and to much boxing skill for Kessler UD for Joe this fight is

Re: Kerssler faster than Calzaghe???
Calzaghe does very little sparring, and the sparring he does do is all with fighters from within his dads camp like enzo mac, bradley price etc. so theres no way he coulda sparred joe as a pro.

Kessler faster than Calzaghe. That is a ludicrous claim.
Who on earth made this claim exactly?? ???

Re: Kessler faster than Calzaghe???
Look, this is just propaganda from Kessler's promoter, that's all. He got the sparring partner to say something nice to the Danish press to build up interest/ticket sales/TV revenue. It's the art of the promoter. The sparring partner isn't going to say "actually he's a bit rubbish, I think Calzaghe will flatten him", is he?
Danish people are all virgins when it comes to having a boxer built up and hyped by promoters, because there hasn't exactly been an avalanche of top Danish boxers in recent years, has there? This guy is probably the first in living memory. Danish fans have seen Kessler in the ring against guys picked specifically to make him look good.
The problem comes when the fighter is eventually moved up in class, then the "fast hands" and "excellent technique" look average or worse. The "gifts" that the boxer showed against lesser opposition vanish. When Mikkel Kessler gets in the ring with Joe Calzaghe, Calzaghe will beat him like a red-headed stepchild. It'll end in a UD that won't be close enough for any argument after the fight and Kessler will get the Lacy post-Calzaghe who was he anyway/who did he beat who wasn't a has-been or a never-was/was never really a world-class fighter verdict from all the people picking Kessler to win.

Re: Kessler faster than Calzaghe???
I remember watching that fight on something called TV 1000 at my mate's house with Scandanavian commentary. I don't think anybody ever confused that guy with a world-class boxer. Handy nightclub bouncer maybe.

Well done,
you didn't fork-out for the Sky PPV then.
Brian Nielsen was the nuts in Denmark. ;)

Which kind of proves my point. He still wasn't a world-class fighter though.

Re: Kessler faster than Calzaghe???
I've followed Joe for as long as I can remember...maybe dodged the first year of his career & followed Kessler for the last three...no way in hell is Kessler faster than Joe...I don't give two strained shits what some second rate sparring partner says.
As to whom I think will win?
Joe...but honestly...I'd want Kess to pull it out...or atleast give a GREAT effort.
I really dig on Kessler & he's done a whole lot more than Joe has of late. The lad deserves to give a shot...but I just don't think he'll be able to against Joe & I truly don't see Joe's hands being as big of a factor as everyone else does.
Now if Joe loses...he'll say that it was the hands.

Re: Kessler faster than Calzaghe???
Calzaghe is faster, but Kessler hits harder.

Agreed 100%.
Hands down Kess hits harder...but he'll have a harder time getting off than Joe due to the fact that Joe could throw standing on his head & more accurate...not being literal...but you get the point. ;)

I agree with some of this but Joe does leave himself open and no one has been able to take advantage of this but Kessler will because Kessler is much more skilled than any of Calzaghe's opponent's by a long shot i see Calzaghe outworking Kessler but i can also see Kessler picking his spots and getting Calzaghe with his jab i think this fight will be amazing clash of style's i have been changing my mind about this alot but im going with Kessler by decision.
Kessler has impressed me Wacko i think this fight will bring out a new star in boxing aka Kessler.

The way that I see it is this:
Kessler is the only one out there that I truly believe could hurt Joe...maybe even stop him...but that's a big maybe.
Joe's got a hell of a beard & anytime it's been tested he comes right back & checks his opponent. I aint so sure that Kess has the jingle in his jeans to be able to handle someone like that.
While Kessler has pulled some impressive stingers lately...he has only faced one fighter that I really believe is of caliber & that was Andrade. The others have been either no hopers or in the game too long.
Calzaghe faced some pretty stiff opposition in their primes but they weren't names that the average fight fan could recognize...especially my U.S. bretheren of the ring.
Apples to apples many fight fans compare them evenly matched as far as the record goes...I for one would have to just wait & see because no matter what anyone thinks...Kess is at the top of his game right now while Joe is lagging on certain aspects.
This will not be the blow out that Lacy was.
-
Re: Kessler faster than Calzaghe???
The handspeed may be close, but I'd give Calzaghe the advantage, and if your talking footspeed, Calzaghe is clearly half a step quicker.
-
Re: Kessler faster than Calzaghe???
Kessler has an underrated jab. I think he keeps it in Joe's face and set's up the right hand. In a result that will shock a lot of people (not me) Kessler stops Joe early. 3rd or 4th round.

Andrade much better than Mundine? Really? I think Mundine is better, or atleast as good. He did much better v Kess than Librado. Any reason u rate Andrade higher?
-
Re: Kessler faster than Calzaghe???
I think their speed is pretty even except when Calzaghe starts throwing combinations.
-
Re: Kessler faster than Calzaghe???
Sven Ottke has a lot of respect for Kessler. Saying he has as good footwork as he had in his prime. But he (Kessler) hits a lot harder. Only thing that worries me for a Kessler win is his chin. Kessler has never been tested 112%

True. Kessler is going to be hit more, and most likely harder, than ever before.

Same could be said for Joe. I think both fighters will be facing their hardest opponent of their career.

Re: Kessler faster than Calzaghe???
Kessler doesn't hit as hard as Lacy, will be more accurate, faster and will land more often, but not as hard.

He does hit extremely hard, and i would hesitate to say Lacy hits harder.

Re: Kessler faster than Calzaghe???
His jab and straight right are beautiful, no doubt they carry power. But lacy, albeit an inferior boxer to both Calzaghe and Kessler, is in my opinion and no doubt in the opinion of many is perhaps the hardest puncher in the SM division and potentailly the LH division also.
