who's he fighting?
Costa Rica’s Henry Porras (33-6-1, 25 KOs)
I was about to say what Mar said but no point now.Quote:

Obviously a confidence builder.
I know he looked dry at 160 but I really wish he would stay there. Maybe it would mean trimming a bit but if he did it this long, why not now?
168 is just to deep for Miranda. Outside of the welterweight ring, it is going to be the most top heavy division in all of boxing here shortly. Calzaghe and Kessler are a clear 1 and 2, and then we have both Taylor and Pavlik moving up after their showdown. Jeff Lacy is coming back in this next year, if he has any left then he is certainly going to be higher ranked then Miranda and guys like RJ, Winky and B-Hop are always pondering testing the super middleweight waters. Miranda doesn't really have a chance to do anything at the top.
I suppose he could go after an Allen Green rematch.
At 160, after this big Taylor - Pavlik bout, if the two top guys clear out then the top guy in the division is probably going to be Arthur Abraham. That is unless Winky decides to clean up but there isn't any real money there right now. And it's not like we have tons of new guys ready to come in there either.
Miranda put out a good account of himself versus Abraham and that's what started all that Miranda-mania. If he stays at 168 then we can pretty much expect him to be an ESPN2 fixture. He'll have good KO's but not be any real competitive matchups until he challenges the top guys where he just isn't going to win.
This is great news! CC for the story Mar. I'm a big Miranda fan and I'm glad to see he's trying to bounce back from the ass kicking that Pavlik gave him. I actually think he'll do a lot better at 168 than at 160, because he looked weight drained against Pavlik (not that Pavlik wouldn't have beaten him anyways). I guess we'll get a chance to see how his chin holds up at 168 as the guy he's fighting seems to have a decent KO%. I wouldn't be surprised to see him fight Allan Green again... hopefully his knocks Green out.
Being weight drained had nothing to do with pavlik laying the smackdown on him :) If anyone can box at a distance better then Miranda they'll beat him. If he uppercuted went to the body and stopped winging his shots from the outside he'd do better. Its in his style that his flaw is. He fights a taller fighters fight when he isnt a taller fighter
Oh I agree completely, like I said in my post I think Pavlik would've beaten him anyways, but compared to the other fights I have seen him in, Miranda appeared a lot slower and more listless, which to me indicated it could've been weight issues. If he doesn't adapt his style he's never going to win a belt because showed everyone how to beat him, but he's an exciting fighter and he has a great story behind him.Quote:

In retrospect Porras' biggest win (or make that 'only noteworthy win') was against another Colombian, Alejandro Berrio. But Porras is 36 now, and he wasnt even good enough to beat the division's b-guys (like Otis Grant, Jürgen Brahmer) when he was younger, so obvioulsy it is a confidence builder for Miranda. Will be interesting to see though how well he seems to fit into 168.Quote:

Super middleweight does have a wealth of talent at the moment.
Can't say the same for the middles, thats why i hope Miranda sticks around.
Yea hes a real warrior win or loose
I agree and I'll definitely still eb watching his fights. Not everyone throws 100 plus power punches per round and has a rock solid chin like Pavlik,so Edison can still beat alot of fighters.
Funnily enough, i feel it is Miranda that could benefit most from Emmanuel Steward. A lot more than Taylor i feel, as Manny works well with aggresive come forweard fighters.
Yeah perhaps not... But Pavlik still laid the foundation for beating the hell out of Miranda... He's really a poor fighter when being made to back up, he looked utterly clueless often times against Pavlik... He generates nowhere near the same power off the back foot as he does when coming forward, doesn't counter or set traps, and he isn't difficult to back up from the looks of it. moving up a division against bigger guys who hit harder and can take more punishment just doesn't bode well for him imo.. I think there are actually a good number of fighters who would hand him a total beatdown at SMW. His best chance for a belt would probably be the winner of Berrio and Bute.. I thikn Lucian will come out on top in that one, and I'd heavily favour him to beat Edison as well, but Bute still has some defensive lapses, and he hasn't really found a style that's comfortable for him to use consistently.. He switches between offence and defence too often which gives both Berrio and Miranda a shot I spose. If Berrio wins, then he vs Miranda would be a firecracker of a match for sure. They are fairly similar fighters really, it would be all action. I wouldn't mind seeing Miranda rematch Green either, he could also fight Jean Pascal, Brahmer, Inkin, or Froch and give them all a decent test at least. tbo though Id have him an underdog in all those fights. I think the most competitive matchup that would raise his stock and make sense would be a fight against Manfredo...Quote:

Green could not do anything in their fight.. I don't know if he was just afraid of Miranda or what, but he barely threw anything and he did drop Edison with just about the only meaningful left hook he threw. True Abraham couldn't do it either, but I think that is in part because the blueprint hadn't been laid yet. Abraham fought the wrong fight, trying to fight off the back and counter, always letting Miranda generate power and stay dangerous throughout. And he still beat him. And I disagree that Pavlik ate punches that would put a lot of guys down. Maybe they would put some guys down, but those shots Miranda was throwing where off the back foot, and mostly arm punches... That was my point, that he doesn't have the footwork or ring smarts to set up power shots and put his whole frame into them when moving backwards. i just think he'll be a lot easier to defeat now that any future opponents know his limitations.Quote:

Why would 168 be better weight class for him ?? theres even more talented fighters at 168 than there are at 160 most of the elite Supermiddleweights would beat Miranda.Quote:

Pantera might start coming back around. ;D I honestly felt bad for Miranda after losing to Abraham AND Pavlik. He just happened to fight two of the very primeir fighters in a short period and finds himself in a bad way. On the other hand......he could learn how to box.
“My only concern is that none of the champions will want to fight me in 2008 after they see how much stronger and faster I am at 168 pounds................... I didn't want to start a new thread this is a portion of a current interview on fightnews. Do you guys think he will be better at 168 ??
I hate to be the one in the minority here...but I gotta be that guy.Quote:

He can handle being tossed in with a boxer as proven against his elder Howard Eastman but Howard fought his fight for all his experience & Miranda was able to muscle him around the ring.
Pavlik new the shot that would beat him...a cracking left hook. Both Pavlik & Lowe watched tape on Miranda & saw that he left the barn door open & was susceptable to the left hook. Pavlik knew what many of fighters knew...Miranda drops his hands & fires off power shots leaving himself open to the counter. He never pulls his mits up in front of his face while exchanging.
He forgets his defense & Pavlik saw that & used it & hammered him the fwock out.
Watch him again....better yet...watch that fight & the Eastman fight.
It's right there & until he starts using some form of defense...he's fwocked.
