Well i heard he injured his hand not sure about breaking his hand but i don't think so because he was slugging away with both hands in later rounds no problem.

Re: Did Calzaghe broke his hand against Reid???
It was clearly a lame ass excuse. Calzaghe fought Rick Thornberry less than 4 months after the Reid fight. Calzaghe groupies just made that shit up cuz Calzaghe didn't want to rematch Reid. So they blamed his performance on his hand.

I agree Calzaghe avoided the rematch i scored the fight a draw a rematch would of gave Calzaghe more recognition if he would of won the rematch all i know is that Reid was hitting Calzaghe with right hands over and over and luckily for Calzaghe Reid had 1 point deducted otherwise i would of had Reid winning but the 3 judges scorecards were a joke 116-111 ?? what the hell were they watching ??

Re: Did Calzaghe broke his hand against Reid???
If I remember correctly Calzaghe did break his hand in the Reid fight

You don't break your hand and than have a fight less than 4 months later. Unless your hand is not broken. It was a made up excuse. Calzaghe bitched out on the Reid rematch.

Re: Did Calzaghe broke his hand against Reid???
Ask a doctor about hand healing times.

Yeah healing time of bones is about 6 to 8 weeks. dunno if its the same for hands tho. He could have been fighting within 4 months, altho it'd be dam risky, there'd have to be some damage to the bone still.

I doubt a fighter with Calzaghe history of hand problems would take such a risk just to fight Rick Thornberry. Bottom line is he blamed the hand injury on his performance in order to avoid a rematch with Reid.

wouldnt be surprised if he did do that.

Re: Did Calzaghe broke his hand against Reid???
Calzaghe took a useless rematch vs Veit so why not rematch Reid ?? he should of definetly took a rematch with Reid that was as controversial as you can get alot of people thought Reid won it and there should of been an automatic rematch.

Re: Did Calzaghe broke his hand against Reid???
Ive heard a bit about this reid fight never seen the fight though a link would be appreciated...
lets be fair though even though ive never seen it it must have been am off night Calzaghe seen off

Exactly, watch the fight before commenting. I've seen it and Joe looked fine to me. Who are these so called fighters that Joe has faced that are 100 x better than Robin Reid was in 1999, and totally dominated?

The part that stood out was you saying you haven't seen the fight, but claim it was an off night. That makes real sense. Anyway trying search for the fight in the download section. I'm pretty sure you'll find it

Re: Did Calzaghe broke his hand against Reid???
Broke my hand, a month to heal a month to rest. Fixed. Yes he could have fought within 4 months.
-
Re: Did Calzaghe broke his hand against Reid???
i can't find the fight anywhere on the net. None of the places have it. i tried world boxing video archive but not one seed.
-
Re: Did Calzaghe broke his hand against Reid???
It was badly damaged I believe. His performance level dropped considerably in the later tounds, which is quite unlike him because his stamina is one of his best attributes. As for fighting 4 months later, this was the start of string below par performances from him including the Thornberry and Starie fights, so maybe the injury was still lingering, and maybe afterwards is why he started to pull out fights rather than fight carrying an injury. I'm just speculating.

He had to rematch him or he wuold have been stripped of his title. Believe it or not Veit was number 1 contender at the time.
