Who do you guys have as your fighter of the year so far? I have Pavlik taking it if he beats Taylor. Otherwise its up to Floyd. I just think 3 fights 2 good wins will be enough to give it to Pavlik. Cotto could take it if he beats Mosely, too.

Cotto takes it if he beats Mosley.Or vise versa. Pavlik will be high if he beats JT.Calderon is high up there.
Hatton, No dOUBT if he beats PBF. Thats beating IBF Urango, JLC and then WBC PBF = PERFECT YEAR for the Hitman if he pulls off the mayweather win.
Kelly Pavlik.
I don't think Hatton is going to beat Mayweather thats why i didn't add him instead ;)
Mayweather.
Really I couldn't see it being anyone else but him or Cotto.
Mayweather hands down.
As many awards in all sports, Fighter of the Year is also a popularity contest as much as a recognition of achievements. By the end of the year Mayweather will have been involved in the two highest grossing fights of the year, not to mention the highest grossing fight in history.
Besides beating the best 154 lber (which Oscar was at the time even though we don't want to admit it) and the best 140 lber in the same year is a pretty big achievement.
Of course this changes if he loses.......but he won't lose.
I guess the Floyd argument makes sense. I could see Cotto, Pavlik, and Manny P (pending the outcome of their upcoming fights) as possible contenders if Floyd lost... although Hatton would probably be the front-runner if he could pull that off.
You could throw Hatton as well into that mix up after his last fight and if he beats Mayweather by K.O or stoppage. Pavlik should take if be beats Taylor. Pavlik is plain scary.Quote:

I got Pavlik taking the lead.
same people in mind except the randy thing.Quote:

Then the rest in no particular order:
Calderon
Sakata
Pac
JMM
'Baby Bull' Diaz (If he beat 'The Kid')
*Edit: I'd like to add Wladdy
I dont' think pac did much this year, even if he beats mab. that will just be beating a guy he already beat so yea :PQuote:

Mayweather most likely, but my dark horse is Mikkel Kessler
Don't really agree with everyone saying Pavlik... He'd have one hell of a year if he does beat Taylor, but Id definetly give the edge to the winner of Mosley vs Cotto, that'd be wins over Collazo and Cotto or Judah and Mosley.... Mayweather should be the frontrunner assuming he beats Hatton. Any other year and PAvlik would deserve it for wins over Miranda and Taylor.
Yeh Ivan Calderon is a good candidate. He's definitely up there with them
Both Donaire and Pavlik won covincingly and shocked the boxing world this year. They're 2 of my top 5 in 07 FrOTY race.Quote:

He knocked out undefeated Jorge Solis. That and maybe a knockout victory in a war (foty?) with MAB might get him up there in the running. I don't think he'd get by the winner of mayweather/hatton though. My guess is that whoever wins that will be the man here, regardless of any other outcomes.Quote:

I don't think Floyd will get it though. He's too gifted and therefore not popular enough. Pavlik will probably get it if he beats Taylor although Oscar and Hatton is a better resume.
taylor isnt p4pQuote:

Hatton won it in 2005 by beating Kostya Tszyu, Ray Oliveira and Carlos Maussa, Pavlik's credentials are better than that if he beats Taylor.Quote:

So to imply as if Miranda has become a bum overnight is silly. He's done more at 160 than Oscar at 154 and is a better fighter than Baldo full stop. Vernon looked better than Floyd v Baldo.Quote:

Mayweather's win over Hatton should clinch him his second fighter of the year award.
Well it's a toss up between Pavlik and Hatton. If Pav beats Taylor tonight he has big wins over a Miranda and Taylor this year and Hatton for stopping Castillo and beating (IF) Mayweather.
Well for me its hard because it all depends how they win thier fights for me if Plavlik Ko's Taylor early he has it hands down for me
Pavlik just handed an early KO. He's candidate for fighter of the year for me.
So far i'd go with Pavlik
If Hatton beats Mayweather i'd go with him but if Mayweather beats Hatton i'd go with Mayweather
If Cotto beats Mosley, a strong argument for Cotto to get it emerges.
Do most agree with Pavlik so far or has somebody else crept under my very narrow sighted radar?
Topic Merged. :)
IMO it has to be Pavlik. He beats Zertuche, brutally KOing him. He fights Edison Miranda, who almost everyone (including myself) picks to beat Pavlik soundly. Pavlik KO's Miranda after a brutal 7 round fight. Then he gets off the floor to KO JT, the middleweight champ who beat Hopkins twice, drew with Wright (Winky won IMO, but its impressive that JT could even hang with him and get a disputed draw).
There have been some impressive performances, but Pavlik has had 2 huge fights in which he was the underdog and he came through both times, he went from being considered an overrated, protected prospect to middleweight champion.
If Hatton beats Mayweather you could make a very strong argument for him as well, but I doubt that happens.
Hatton/Cotto if they win. Not Mayweather, even if he beats Hatton. He was favourite to beat Oscar and HOT fave to beat Hatton. Pavlik is numer 1 so far though, under dog v Miranda and Taylor and he won in devestating fashion v both.
