Berto looked good...but which Welterweight Champ would you put him in with?
Kermit
Williams
Cotto or
Floyd?
I'd say maybe Kermit? I still havn't seen the guy fight so it's unfair to call him the weakest champ..but i'm just thinking style and experience-wise. Cotto vs Berto would be an awesome match as well if last nights match is anything to go by! Their style's would gel nicely.

After tonights fight, Berto is not ready for someone like Cotto but it would still be an interesting fight.
Cintron would be a nice test. Williams, Floyd and Cotto would all beat Berto in their own special ways.

Was exactly my thought process..those styles may pose problems for Berto. Of course he doesn't have the experience yet for Cotto..a few matches down the line though and that would be such a mouth-watering fight :)
Anyway fuck off stop posting on my topic, I hate your shitty sig its gay! ;D ;D

Re: Berto looked good...but which Welterweight Champ would you put him in with?
I think that Berto needs one more big test before fighting for a world title. Clottey, Hopkins or Collazo would be great tests and I'd expect him to overcome all three although Clottey would be the hardest test (IMO)

Re: Berto looked good...but which Welterweight Champ would you put him in with?
i think he could KTFO cintron...
anyone else tho would fuck him up

I have to agree with you, although he's better than average,I just don't see it. Nice jab, patient, good body shots but I just think the elite at 147 are a level above. BTW,he'll most likely be fighting Quintana who won on the Pavlik undercard,in an untelevised bout. That's what I've heard.

Me too.I think Kermit would KO him BUT it would be closer than any other fights featuring Berto v the elite.

Re: Berto looked good...but which Welterweight Champ would you put him in with?
It's just being in the Welterweight division doesn't help his cause..Such a deep division. I thought he had nice crisp, accurate punches..the only problem I saw was his defensive lapses at times. Estrada sometimes tagged him too easily. Hey he's still learning..most people are called hype before they are put in there against stiffer tests. Look at Pavlik, he's now the undisputed Middleweight champion of the world. Give Berto time, he's still only 24.

He would lose to them all at the moment no doubt in my mind.

Re: Berto looked good...but which Welterweight Champ would you put him in with?
A fight with Joel Julio looks good, apart from Cintron looks a good opponent. I have heard he may fight Henry Crawford soon though.
-
Re: Berto looked good...but which Welterweight Champ would you put him in with?
A fight with any of those guys would be good bouts, but at the moment he would lose them all. Berto needs more performances like the one with Estrada against fighters like the Quintana's, Julio's, and maybe even the Judah's before he steps up against any champion at 147.

Your sadly mistaken about Cintron, my friend. Secretly, I'm hoping they make a Cintron-Judah match, so someone can retire ol' Zab for good.
;D

None YET it's one thing to beat fighters at D & C class level and it's another to beat World Champs.
I think Berto still has some road to cover before he steps up to World Class. The last thing you want is for him to get sparked out and cut his career short. The kids got talent but they need to manage his career accordingly.

Great war last night.I nthink we have seen Berto at all he will be.awesome force andtwo handed fistic furry but not versitile and I think That will be his Down fall If he gets in with Grade A fighter.Against a speed Power guy,he'd follow them around and IMO get thumped.

Re: Berto looked good...but which Welterweight Champ would you put him in with?
If hes going to fight for a title then Cintron is probibly the best option having said that in a few more fights i think he could give Cotto a run for his money as Cotto hasnt got the greatest defense in the world but he is a f**kin animal and would probibly rip Bertos head off if he got careless. Williams is too big and would keep him at bay with the jab all night long and Mayweather is too slick and would catch him everytime he drops his hands when he backs up.
-
Re: Berto looked good...but which Welterweight Champ would you put him in with?
I'd like to see him in with Margarito. I know he's not a champ anymore but it would be a great test for both and a good measure of where they both are at this point in their respective careers.
-
Re: Berto looked good...but which Welterweight Champ would you put him in with?
I think that would be a very dangerous fight for Berto. Margarito is a BIG welter it would be intriguing but i doubt it will happen due to the risk/reward factor epecially when Cintron is available and has a belt
-
Re: Berto looked good...but which Welterweight Champ would you put him in with?
Berto is not ready to fight a beltholder yet. Rivera and Estrada are his two best opponents, and while they're competent professional fighters, they're just stepping stone opponents.
Berto's next step is to fight a fringe Top 10-15 guy. Urkal, Bonsu, Quintana, Alfonso Gomez, someone like that.
-
Re: Berto looked good...but which Welterweight Champ would you put him in with?
I see good things for Berto give him some years and he may be at the top of the welters one day

I'm not really seeing anything special either. I mean come on; Estrada is a two-legged punching bag. Tough as steel, but so sloppy as to be pitiful. I think Berto could get busier than he is. I would like to see him get put in with Margarito. Seems like Tony is going to get put in the gate-keeper spot, so Berto needs to run into him.
-
Re: Berto looked good...but which Welterweight Champ would you put him in with?
To me ,I cannot see Berto carrying alot of pounds in the future and being effective .He'll be welter for awhile In a stacked division which means a high probability for tough fights :)
Margarito vs. Berto would be good and both are the types to invite grade A competition.I think Margarito would kill him with that "hookercut" and do damage as berto Is offensive dynamo but all to willing to soak up damage.imo he should avoid Long power types. He'll be explosive as usual and Makes fans easily
-
Re: Berto looked good...but which Welterweight Champ would you put him in with?
remeber he still a prospect give him time and i think if he uses his speed he could beat magarito but he needs some more time still a work in progress legoin you can hold me to this i think he will be  top welter some time in next couple of years just wait and see my friend wait and see
-
Re: Berto looked good...but which Welterweight Champ would you put him in with?
Margarito would wreck Berto. Too big,too strong. If Rivera can have him on queer street with an uppercut,Margarito would KO him with one. Berto v Quintana should be next.
-
Re: Berto looked good...but which Welterweight Champ would you put him in with?
he is still up and comer i mean when margarito started he lost to not very good people Gamo and i meant maybe in a year or two he might be able to beat margarito he only has 20 fights

Margarito had few amateur fights, hence his losses early in his career v established pros. And when he turned pro,he was 16/17 years old. Much like Humberto Soto, his boxing training/education had not been complete.

Ok,So were conceding the Impending loss with Berto??
His all out style will not provide him 2 years,He will have to take step up and If its Margarito,he 'll get folded up.

Re: Berto looked good...but which Welterweight Champ would you put him in with?
I read over on espn.com that Carlos Quintana is the guy being looked at a future opponent for Berto.
-
Re: Berto looked good...but which Welterweight Champ would you put him in with?
give berto soem more fights and he will be ready margarito the guy you mention would be a great test

I already made a thread about this a while ago. They said if Berto wins and Quintana wins, they would fight.

Saturday was a good step up in competition and hopefully he can keep it at this level until he progresses and maybe this time next year he'll be ready for one of those guys. I'd say Cintron first, then maybe Cotto. Williams and Floyd are both uniquely problematic, but I'd bet within 2 years Williams won't be able to compete at 147 anymore.

I agree,Paul is too tall, making weight must kll him. I mean he runs something like 10 miles per day to make 147,there must be a limit as to how often someone can do that!!!

Re: Berto looked good...but which Welterweight Champ would you put him in with?
He's just so gaunt. I can easily see him at Super Middle or Middle some day.
-
Re: Berto looked good...but which Welterweight Champ would you put him in with?
Yea but if he moved up he wont be as dominate against people like Pavlik and Kessler might even get knocked out i think whats saves him his hieght and reach he has no power but does have good puchout but as for berto yet again i pick him over Cintron and margriot give him some more fights and he will be there
-
Re: Berto looked good...but which Welterweight Champ would you put him in with?
hey do you know if the fight with Berto and Quintana is finale and if so is their a date to when the fight is going to happen
-
Re: Berto looked good...but which Welterweight Champ would you put him in with?
He needs more preparation because if he goes in too soon it will all be a blur in his memory. Can't rush him.
-
Re: Berto looked good...but which Welterweight Champ would you put him in with?
Exactly my point give him couple more fights and he will be ready just wait and see
-
Re: Berto looked good...but which Welterweight Champ would you put him in with?
This i kinda why I made this topic..because the division is so deep I just remember the commentator saying he was nearly ready for a world title. I thought 'Damm, but he's in the welterweight division!? Who could he possibly have a chance against??'
I think if he was in one of the weaker divisions..maybe one up or one down he would probably be ready now for a title shot. Right now, like what is being said, I think he needs to face a fringe contender. Talking of gate-keepers what about Judah? That could be an interesting fight.
-
Re: Berto looked good...but which Welterweight Champ would you put him in with?
Judah sounds really interesting.
