does he cement his place as the 2nd greatest Mexican fighter ever??
I'm a diehard Morales fan, so it's always been hard for me to root for Barrera, but if he can pull this off, all boxing fans would have to give him his due.
But exactly how high in the all-time rankings would a win over Pac put him?

i'm a pacman fan (if not, the biggest pac fan here). If Barrera wins over Pacquaio, he will definitely be the greatest mexican boxer for me.

I'll definitely put Barrera ahead of Marquez and Morales if he beats PAC.
MAB beat Morales 2x and IMO MAB beat Marquez so if he beats PAC this saturday he definitely edges both JMM and Morales.

I think the second is up in the air.
Very good topic, and with my limited range of knowledge on the particular subject, I'm pretty much limiting this to Morales' career versus Barrera's because I would think those two would be vying for the second spot.
I'm sure there are plenty of other P4P talents but I'm don't think there are any that have the career resumes of those 3.
So with that being said, if Barrera can pull off the victory then I think he is probably the second greatest Mexican fighter of all time.

Everyone knows Ali was great when he was in prime form before his exile but his greatest performances came when the odds were stacked against him versus Liston, Foreman and Frazier. That is the mark of a great fighter.
This would be the third or fourth complete resurrection of Marco Antonio Barrera. The guy just never goes away and for whatever reason, people continue to write him off almost like he isn't a great fighter. They did the same to Ali. Not a lot of other guys get that treatment.
Outside of Mayweather, Pacquiao could be the hottest fighter in the world. The general opinion is that Barrera really doesn't have a chance. Why is it that way? Not really sure but that's what most feel and a lot of people even have a lack of enthusiasm about this fight.
No idea why. I would put money on Barrera at this point. He's been in this position way to many times to come up lame on Saturday.

JCC obviously number 1? Dunno about that. Salvador Sanchez was my pick...... Many feel JCC's record is a little padded and that he got some gift decisions.

Sanchez was a great fighter and obviously a P4P talent. But his career resume wasn't as great as Chavez'. Of course that is a touchy subject because of the nature of his untimely death and all that untapped potential but that's the way things are. I'll leave that one alone though because I don't want to disrespect Sanchez who could have been one of the most talented guys in the lower weights ever.

JCC is number 1,end of. Look at the guys he beat.And stayed unbeaten. Sure,he beat alot of cans,but if you look at the records of all legends with that many wins,they all have alot of cans at the begninning. Forget that.Lokk at the number of quality names,champions,past,present and future.
IF MAB beats Pac,he'll be top5 for sure. I don't envisage him going above Sal Sanchez nor JCC.

Chavez #1. He's certainly considered by the people of Mexico to be the greatest Mexican fighter ever.
FWIW, I thought Morales beat MAB in the first two of their fights. But if MAb wins this weekend at this advanced age, I'd have to rank his career above Morales'.
For the purposes of this thread, I'm talking about career accomplishment, so IMO, Sanchez isn't really part of the discussion, since his career was cut short so soon.

Oh and 1 other important factor is obviously Manny is going to be the agressor,and to keep him off,you need some power,as JMM showed and Morales too in their first fight. I don't think MAB possesses the power to keep Pacman honest. We'll see.

Like the second Morales fight in the sense that MAB will start off well,move and box but Manny will bang to the body,catch him and stop him in the 9th round. I'm choosing Manny for sure,I even have SIG bets with Preme and Sugar SHaw so I'm pretty confident!

You make some interesting points as usual. Barrera knows Manny is fast and Im sure thats been a factor in the preparation. Here we have no excuses. We all know the deal with Manny. He is fast. Barrera is pretty fast too when needs be too though and in terms of handspeed he is as good as ever. Those early rounds against Marquez were as concise and as quick as Barrera can be. Im sure speed has been a huge focus in training.
Barrera is 33 which would indicate a certain decline in stamina. But to be honest he goes 12 rounds in every fight and does what needs to be done. I dont think he has lost any of his recent fights and has on the way beaten Morales for the 3rd fight and also beaten Marquez. He couldnt beat anyone better on the way except Pac. I question that a Barrera when challenged to the hilt cannot fight for 3 minutes a round.
If Marquez can be put down in the manner he was (and he was)....Pac could very well go down in much the same manner. Barrera has power...that shouldnt be underlooked.
It will be a great fight...how could it not? :o ;D

Manny's speed and pressure and MAB's stamina. I don't think he can fight 3 full minutes of every round,which we all know Manny can and will do. I think this fight will be similar to the second Morales fight but MAB won't do as well as Erik. ;D ;D
Oh and 1 other important factor is obviously Manny is going to be the agressor,and to keep him off,you need some power,as JMM showed and Morales too in their first fight. I don't think MAB possesses the power to keep Pacman honest. We'll see.

I see this fight like Pavlik-Taylor but without MAB scoring a KD. I agree with you. Manny ALWAYS start slow. He only start picking up the pace everytime he gets pissed off. I got Manny winning in late round also by KO or TKO.

Barrera will have to fight a real smart fight to pull this one out of the bag, he will have to make it ugly like the 2nd Juarez fight and not give Pacman too much room to get his punches off. The thing that concerns me is Barreras stamina which hasn't been great of late and he looked lathargic at times in the Marquez fight. I think the pace and workrate Pacman puts out will be too much for Barrera to deal with.

Of course he will make it ugly. He will need to mix every little trick he knows. That with fast hands and an effective gameplan....Pac is in for a rough ride. Aint no doubt about that.

When Barrera beat Nas I knew he was going to win but not many gave him a chance
When Barrera fought Morales teh 3rd I was certain Barrera would own Erik and he did even though b4 the fight he wasnt given a chance
In the Juarez return people were saying Barrera is past it blah blah but I was positive Barrera would beat him easily .
Now they are saying Pac will beat Barrera but I am more certain of a Barrera win than ive ever been b4 . This 1 is defo a Barrera win . I seem to be able to see what others cant . Which is , Barrera is in a class of his own when he has something to prove

If Barrera can box well and not sustain damage in the first six rounds...he will be in great position to pull the upset. Pac will try and pressure and hurt him from the onset of the fight. Marco has to use all his skill and smarts to really maintain his energy for the latter part of the fight. If this fight is close after 6 or 7...i gotta go with the fighter with the better skill, smarts, and ability to adapt. Manny, for all of his supposed improvements, still fights primarily one way....coming forward to knock his opponent out. If he cannot put Barrera away early...i think he will get frustrated and not be able to adapt his fighting style. On the flip side...Marco's stamina will be the big question. He showed in the Marquez fight that he is still razor sharp and plenty fast (and strong) on his punches. It's his stamina against a pressure fighter that will be the big test. Can he deal with the pressure early and have enough left in the tank for the second part of the fight? Should be a great fight between two great warriors. If Marco can pull of this upset...he is without a doubt in my opinion one of the top three Mexican fighters in the history of the sport.

I remember when Barrera beat Naz, that depth of focus is exactly what is required for this fight. If Barrera can fight his own fight and not get into a war he might just pull this off.

I would respect Barrera a lot, but i know for a fact there is a lot more to this fight to MAB than more others. Pride and revenge and this is going to be a factor that if marco can control, i can honestly seem him winning the fight. Mannys got the advantage of winning the first one and my god is he good, i think pacman will be gunning to knock him out again, but he should bear in mind this is going to be a very,very hard fight. I hope hes trained hard for it because Barrera is going to be ready for this.

Barrera been fading ever since his last fight with pac. But man...he's one tuff as biatch, tougher than morales, if he pulls an upset I wouldn't be surprised. This fight should still be more competitve than pac vs morales 3 :lickish:

I just saw the MAB-Hamed replays on HBO on Demand and compared that on MAB when faced PAC obviously MAB was not ready that night. Honestly I'm really nervous right now for PAC.

very true. Barrera should fight using his style and not engage in too much brawl with Pacquaio. He should know this. He already felt how fast and strong pacquaio is.
