Woods targets ex-champion Tarver
Clinton Woods has targeted a clash with former world champion Antonio Tarver after beating Julio Cesar Gonzalez to retain his IBF light heavyweight belt.

I think this is a step in the right direction finally for Woods.
Re: Woods targets ex-champion Tarver
Hope Woods gets the fight. Great fight he had at the weekend.
I'm not sure about Clinton's view on Tarver though - ""I'd sign to fight Tarver tomorrow. People think he's the best in the world so he's the fight I want."
What people think Tarver is best at LH?
Re: Woods targets ex-champion Tarver
I think this is good for Woods, a win would greatly help his credibility and help to set up fights with big names such as Dawson and even Hopkins, should he fight Tarver and mayb one two opponents before challenging Hopkins he might even catch Hopkins shot and add his name to his record.
Re: Woods targets ex-champion Tarver
A step in the right direction for Woods. But saying it isn't enough, the fight still has to be made.
Re: Woods targets ex-champion Tarver
still haven't seen his fight with gonzalez, but if this fight never happen i like how hes putting his self ou there
tarver preety unpredictable so i dont know if this can happen
futre opponets who knows

Re: Woods targets ex-champion Tarver
Woods would (no pun intended) beat Tarver handily.
Tarver is so inactive and old to boot.
It would be a win over a pretty well known fighter though not a win against the best in the division by any means.

Totally agree. The likelihood of this fight coming off is slim. Tarver should be fighting Danny Green next and then probably Chad Dawson. Chad actually mentioned,if he cannot get Tarver,he would fight Woods!

Tarver is about 80 years old and has had a similar number of fights to Jermaine Taylor.
I question his mentality in much the same way I question Taylors. There is a lack of hunger there.
Re: Woods targets ex-champion Tarver
Everyone wants to fight tarver because he is old now and beatable (though I wouldnt underestiate him), plus he is the man who beat the man. funny though how youll never hear anyone call out Glen Johnson ;)
Re: Woods targets ex-champion Tarver
You guys are kidding yourself, if you think Tarver has the fight against Green in the bag! The Green Machine is coming over to WANKSVILLE, AND he is gonna FLOG THAT OVERHYPED FARKING TARVER! Then he will be ready for a Dawson or a Woods bout very happily! ;)
Re: Woods targets ex-champion Tarver
Woods himself is aging tho.

terrible match up. tarvers over the hill. Woods needs to fight one of the other title holders.

Tarvers name is a valuable asset on any resume tho. It could propel Woods to stardom.

Nothing would propel Woods to stardom - he's just not the type.
Tarver would give him a nice big payday though which is what he deserves.

Boxing is a sport where anyone can achieve high accolades with work tho.
I wouldn't have thought Baldomir was the type to be a world champion or that Oscar De la Hoya was the type to go swanning around in womens clothing but there ya go.

Did you mean to quote someone else? I can't workout how that relates to my post :-\
Re: Woods targets ex-champion Tarver
No no mate:
U said, nothing would propel woods to superstardom.
The i said Baldomir didn't seem like the type to be a world champ etc.
Never say never ya no?

Oh right,
But Woods is the IBF "world" champ. I would put the like's of Baldomir and Woods in the same boat. Remember Woods has already fought Roy Jones - before Roy lost the plot.
Current superstar fighters = Oscar, Hatton, Floyd etc .. guys that earn millions, Clinton would love a small portion of that.
Re: Woods targets ex-champion Tarver
only seen woods a few times.. seems to have a good foundation, looks to be well schooled. a good match up vs Tarver .

I agree wholeheartedly Fenster no doubt, but boxing seems to be getting a lot more press recently in the UK. If Woods can beat a big name like Tarver on front of the British public (come on ITV!) i think he will receive merit.
To be honest Fenster there's a part of me really wants to see him do well, he's an increibly nice felllow and id love to see him being an ambassador to the sport, could help repair some of the damage Scott Harrisson did.
