whats your views on swimming once a week instead of road work??

Re: whats your views on swimming once a week instead of road work??
Depends on the session you're substituting it for. If you want to use it instead of an easy run - great. You'll stretch everything out and it'll be very good for your recovery.
If you want to use it for interval work or a hard session it depends on how good you are at swimming and pushing yourself to swim hard. I like the atmosphere of a swimming club with regular trainings in summer but i find it harder to make good use of sessions when I swim less often without the club. Apart from being pushed by others, being able to occupy a 50 m lane dedicated to going fast without having to overtake people makes the club better for hard swimming.
I'd like to swim in a club all year round but travelling across town early in the morning doesn't mesh with my study obligations whereas it's easier in summer. It gets pretty hot in summer here and then I think there would be days I can put in a much harder workout in the pool because I don't have to worry about the heat.

Re: whats your views on swimming once a week instead of road work??
There isnt that many sharks here ,rules are:
Dont go at first or last light, especially at high tide during those times, check your feet for damage before runnning into the water,,dont hug your dog and then swim, dont swim near where dogs have swum, dont piss in the water.
We been in the water on the ocean side of Victoria within site of the great whites hunting grounds off Finders and Phillip Island nearly every morning for years and years the fish actually eat fish here by first choice its a mistake if they go for you either theirs or yours.
Funny true story.. I was out in the water one dark morning surfing and said to a guy next to me that I toyed with the idea of bringing a knife out for protection.
He said "do you really think you would stab a shark if one turns up?"
I grinned at him and said "No I could just slice you and paddle in ."
Running up deep beach sand will raise your arches in your feet.
Why not swim and do road work mix it up have more fun.
If you're damaged goods; do what suits at that time until your back into it all.

And fuck, they bite things to see what they are...that one bite could fuckin kill ya anyway. So yeah fuck that ocean shit, snakey dont like the ocean...he watched jaws too much when he was little ;D

Re: whats your views on swimming once a week instead of road work??
Only crocs are up north thats some 3000 miles away from us, we just got snakes and G whites here, :( fookin borein.
Up north is a snake The tiapan that actually chases you and does mutiple strikes and you dont usually get to hospital alive! Ours are deadly but they hide and their shit takes an hour or so to kill you so at least you get some chance.
I hate snakes.
I love ireland.

Would you be talking about the fierce snake or inland taipan (same thing just different name), deadliest snake in the world. Only found in australia, has enough venom in one bite to kill a human 100 times over. 50 times deadlier than an indian cobra, you dont wanna mess with this thing.

Re: whats your views on swimming once a week instead of road work??
I can remember being chased by a snake once as a kid playing in a sand pit - probably playing in the wrong spot at the wrong time of year - twice though I have been walking along day dreaming and looked down - seen I'm just about to step on a snake (i mean foot RIGHT above it) but backed away slowly and the snakes were not interested in striking me at all.
You just don't want to be like that dude who decided to pick up a snake with his left hand because he usually uses his right but was holding a beer, put it in a sack - ignoring the fact he was bitten - driven off - checked on it (by shoving his hand into the sack) multiple times to make sure it was OK and being bitten several times again - what WAS he thinking! - If he was thinking anything at all!

For some weird reason,I was th apartment complexes resident snake handler when we lived in Florida
And I freaking hate snakes, but everybody somehow decided that I should be the one moving the damned things
There was probably a meeting nobody mentioned to me

My coach used to get us out in the north sea. I haven't done it for a while... I've never learned to swim (meant to be this week! :P) and went under a massive wave the last time! :P

Last time we were trinin up in Northern Ireland thats what they did to us, waited for it to get as cold as possible then made us swim in the coldest water i could ever have imagined

Re: whats your views on swimming once a week instead of road work??
Dam maybe you could save on juice and just stuff ice down your shorts while training instead ???
Some trainers are strange,a local Asian kickboxing master out here used to take his soon to be blackbelts out to a resteraunt for extra hot chilli to see how they can bear internal pain.

I can understand swimming in ice after a training session but not as a training session.
to make swimming a substitute for running your technique better to up to scratch to make it worthwhile. I liked using swim sprints to get me out of breath.

Muscles heat, u start sweating, lactic acid is released and u get tired and cramped.
Put the body in something cold (avoiding the muscles seizing,) You can work ur body at maximum capacity with less lactic acid released, but the heart working harder. Great Cardio.
I THINK.
-
Re: whats your views on swimming once a week instead of road work??
yeah the heart is working harder so you won't freeze to death :( :)

Thats the idea alright.
Like trining at an altitude, when ur heart is then made work in a normal climate it will seem easier
-
Re: whats your views on swimming once a week instead of road work??
I prefer training in heat. Love it, muscles are loose, less time warming up, clears toxins.

it's not that cold... and what really makes it hard is when you leave the sea and your clothes have all the water soaked up... probably adds a stone or more on to you :-\ ;)

Yeah, i shave my hair really tight because of training. I no it sound insignificant, but when ur dead tired at a fight and ur hair is full of weighty water it makes it hard.

Re: whats your views on swimming once a week instead of road work??
i think mixing it up would be good, i read somewhere that wladimir kiltschko ran and swam in lakes during the preperation for lamon brewster fight :)
