Why not?
All of the caffeine imbalances the bodies fuel use so to speak.
Its better to fight as u train if u get my drift? Just use water/Isotonic sports drink.
Plus red bul can do funny things to the stomach.
Is there anyway you can get hyped up and shit before a fight?

na, i had my first amateur fight, im waiting my second, i had my first one in may, .....the thing is, i spar and fight so much better then (my first amatuer fight) even thought i won the fight, and won all 3 rounds, i felt like i did bad, my speed and power both wasnt there that night...........now im waiting my second fight, and i feel alot more nervus then my first time, and i just want my talent to be there......and you know, alot of peoples first amatuer fight they slug(street fight) i went out there and i boxed, but again..my power and speed wasnt there
only if you have no regard to the level you send your bp too....all the caffeine and what not in red bull will hurt your heart if you are not careful...esp if you are already taxing it...

You felt bad because for your first couple you've already burned your self up by the time you get to the ring. The last thing you want is a heavy insulin spike right before you do physical activity... ;)Quote:

In my experiance stay away from the stuff. I used to down a can before I got in the ring and I found that after the first round you start to crash, also I found that it really effected my balance and because im a kickboxer this was not good. I also used to drink a can before my weights sessions too but I started to get alot of chest pain and heart palpations so I put it down to the high caffiene in the Red Bull and as soon as I stopped drinking the stuff the pain and palpatations disapeared. Now I only drink Powerade but I find the best thing before I get in the ring or do a weights session is eat a Bannana, it works so much better for energy and lasts longer.Also like the others posted listen to some music that gets you buzzing before a fight!
yo, AdamGB and everyone else, thanks for the info, adamgb, hope your right, i almost fought last week, (they couldnt find a guy for me) but i felt like i was going to puke, and when i was putting my shit on i was just like "am i right for boxing, should i be doing this" (it was going to be my second amatuer bout, i won my first one) anyway, im alot more nervus for my second one, then i was for my first, i always feel like running away, when its time for me to fight, i hope this feeling goes away. i wish there is away that would at least make it easier..........and the thing is, when i spar, im(not trying to sound big or nuthin) real quick, and i got descent power, and im a southpaw......so idk why i get so dam nervus
I always think its good to be nervous before a fight, Once you get in the ring and get throwing some punches and the adrenaline starts flowing the nerves usually disappear!!
Just to address the question...Caffeine is not the way to go...Its already been supported on why not to do that before a fight or any other high impact activity.

I boxed for a short while and i had the best of both worlds...
My first fight ever i was probably the least nervous out of all of them...I trained like crazy for that fight, and i was ready to go 10 rds easy..Obviously it was only a three round fight..>I was like grease lightning in there...It was only an exhibition fight. and i won an easy decision...My opponent was a huge favorite to win, he had everyone there...and i had like 2 people..hahah...
However, my second fight they couldn't find anyone in my weight..so i said screw i'll fight whoever is closest...WHY did i do that you ask....I GOT A BIG HEAD FROM MY FIRST FIGHT.... and i didn't train nearly as hard as i did in the first fight...
I fought at 125, and i weighed in a 122 1/4...My opponent weighed in at 137....hahaha Man i was stupid!!! It was only an exhibition fight..so they didn't say anything about it..and wrote me in as 135...
Right when i got into the ring during the announcing..i did a little flurry for the crowd to show off my speed, and i felt a little winded afterwards...You could imagine the fear the entered my body after already being winded before the fight even started...Did i mention that i was stupid...???
Anyways... The first round went beautifully, i hit him in the head with a single flurry like 5 or 6 times unblocked..had complete control of the fight, but he whethered the storm nicely...after the bell rang i went to my corner and sat down on the stool...and literally could not feel my legs..i was completely drained...Needless the say the next two rounds were unforgettable and very painful..i never got knocked down or anything..but i got lit up like time square... :o
Moral of the story...the harder you condition the more control you will have over your emotions and nervousness...Condition Condition Condition...everything else will follow...I PROMISE!!!
yo everybody, thanks for the advice/help, i REALLY needed it.
sly stallone swears by caffeine coffee/redbull etc, i have a few books by him one about diet and one about training and he bangs on about it all the time and how everyone frowns on it but he thinks its the hidden key to success (not in so many words tho)

BUT
DON'T Get big-headed, one of the biggest mistakes to make.
not sure where you are from, but in the US> we seem to suffer from an instant gratificationitis...we all assume that a pill drink or shot will cancel out years of hard work and effort or turn back the hands of time....truly that is a mistake...try music and work on just plain sparring to get you used to being in bad situations and working them out.then when it comes to a fight once you enter familiar territory you will find it an easy and less stressful place and consequently all your efforts will be easier...hope that helps
