Marco Antonio Barrera appreciation thread
Assuming he stays retired that's the last time we'll see him fight. I have to say that it's been a privilege to watch one of the all-time great fighters and I hope he has a long and happy retirement. God bless, MAB.
The Morales fights were the highlight for me, that and him banging Naseem Hamed's head off the ringpost. :)

Re: Marco Antonio Barrera appreciation thread
Yea i have a lot of respect for what Barrera has done in the past but after tonight i feel a bit sour after him bitching out :(
-
Re: Marco Antonio Barerra appreciation thread
He's well known as a dirty fighter, and he retired as dirty fighter.
I enjoyed watching his trilogy with Erik. His unforgetable fights with McKinney and Hamed... and I thank him for those.
Sorry but IMO, he retired with low dignity.

This isn't about one fight out of 70, this is to appreciate a fighter who gave us so many fantastic memories.

whos saying its about one fight out of 70. i dont think there is anybody here in saddo that doesnt respect him. its just disheartening what he did tonight.. i thought i was watching hamed vs barerra only thing is barerra looked liked hamed tonight. and the hamed barerra fight was the best thing barerra brought to this world.

Josef, I was actually trying to say the same thing but not in the way you are trying to discredit Pacman (hope I'm wrong).Saying that Barrera did not do his best that's why he lose is somewhat implying that Pacman is not a good fighter. Remember that Barrera is fighting a peak Pacman. Barrera was fighting Pacman with the same style against Naz but Pac was clearly superior in the later rounds.
-
Re: Marco Antonio Barrera appreciation thread
no way. i dont discredit pac. he did what he had to do tonight. he could have pressured more but he respects barerras skill and i can respect that. i think pac did the best he could tonight. it was mab that wasnt making a fight out of it. he was to anxious not to get knocked out he forgot that hes suppose to redeem himself. all aside, i still appreciate what he did for boxing especially for ending the prince's career.
muchas gracias marco!

Re: Marco Antonio Barrera appreciation thread
We all love MAB but if Ali fought Klitschko tommorow it wouldn't tell us a whole lot would it?>> Same concept.
-
Re: Marco Antonio Barrera appreciation thread
I appreciated mab most for the hamed fight even though he didn't k.o that little bastard ;D he did embarrase him for 12 rounds.
I know a lot of people said mab was more hungry this time around than pac is, but to me it didn't seem like mab was willing to take much risk. I hate to say it but atleast eric went out blazing.
cheers to marco, may he enjoy his retirement and his legacy live on. I have him top 5 in my mexican greatest fighter. thank you for all of the fights you made us enjoy. one of my favorite quotes ever included eric and marco.
"eric morales has never lost a fight, and marco antonio barrera has never wanted one more then this" (something like that)
it would be great if mab and eric could just be friends so we can finally have world peace ;D

Re: Marco Antonio Barrera appreciation thread
The fight was a fucking waste and you all know it!!!The fucking fight was 3 years late. Might as well been a decade. Give it up. MAB wanted a final cash in.

Re: Marco Antonio Barrera appreciation thread
Barrera is a legend....
Will always be one of my favourite fighters.
And Barrera fought a decent fight today. This is a mature older Barrera and he lost by no more than a few points against a prime Pac. There is no shame in going out like he did. Up until the 10th I thought it was neck and neck too.
He deserves a long and happy retirement.
-
Re: Marco Antonio Barrera appreciation thread
cc miles. you did say it would be a closer fight than most expected although i think manny having difficulty at the scale had something to do with it.

Come off it Pac give Barrera some props i was rooting for him to win but i thought deep down Pac would stop Barrera and he managed to go the distance and make a good account of himself from what i heard and his fight with McKinney was a classic fight his fight with Hamed was a boxing lesson at its best just stop the hating and give Barrera his props.

CC right back. The first of a significant number I might add! ;D
It went the distance and Barrera was seldom in any real danger of being stopped. That was pretty common sense thinking really. The first fight was clearly an abberation.
I could make a list of excuses, but I wont. Pac fought the slightly better fight and let his hands go more. It was pretty close by my reckoning though.

Re: Marco Antonio Barrera appreciation thread
Barrera showed he is an exceptional Professional, a big up from me

Well done, miles. Barrera put up a much, much better fight than I expected, as you know. The scorecards were a joke.
I underestimated how smart Barrera is. Great fighter.

Re: Marco Antonio Barrera appreciation thread
I wana show my appreciation for Barrera he was past his best and took on a prime Pac in a competative fight
If it was prime Barrera vs past it Pac then it wouldnt go 12 .

Thanks Fenster, :coolclick:
He did put up a decent fight and he went out with no reason to feel any shame. He just gave the number 2 p4p fighter a pretty close fight. If Barrera had that little bit more speed and stamina that he once had then he could have really taken this version of Pac deep. But at 33 and nearly 34 it isnt easy to push fights like he used to.
The cards have been going strangely against Barrera for two years now. Though disappointed by the margins I cannot say I am surprised going by how recent fights have been scored.
I wont make any case for Barrera winning this fight because I think it was decided through the final 2 rounds. Pac was able to take it with his workrate.

I'm overwhelmed by the sense of honesty form 2 of the most hardcore MAB fans. Manny did deserve to win,but the scorecards were poor. CC for telling it ike it is.Honesty is refreshing, especially with regards to one's favourite fighter( a difficult task for anyone)

Well, I have only seen the fight 1 time. After the fight I felt it could go either way. Upon reflection I have come to realise that perhaps Pac was the busier and had worked a bit more and had more left towards the end.
I will need to watch the fight again, but I dont think I will have any major changes in thought.
It wasnt fun watching on the whole. But I really think Barrera's style was awkward for Manny. Barrera elected to box and keep it safety first. Unfortunately that was all Barrera could do and he couldnt dig deep when the time called for it.
