Did you enjoy the Manny fight? I didnt, both fighters looked poor....
I need to get this off my chest. That was a poor poor fight. 1 round was exciting,5 I think. Manny Pacquiao was very very poor. There is NO WAY I can call him the second best fighter in the world. Absolutely not. His balance was woeful. His combinations were terrible. Where was the right hand? His jab wand head movement were good but overall,he seemed so shy,so reticent.
MAB seemed content to survive. Even his corner told him to pick up the pace at 1 point and told him to do more! The scoring was woeful in the sense that it was way too exagerrated in favour of Manny but I had him winning. Roach was poor in the corner too,he didn't inject any sense of urgency into Manny.
I think the fame, the lifestyle has finally gotten to Manny. Put that version of Manny in with Soto,Guzman,JMM,he loses. Those guys are firing on all cylinders. Heck Valero would have given him hell.
Thank goodness for the war between Yusuf Mack and Librado Andrade on the undercard!!! And the McCline Peter and Santos Rivera fights. Far more exciting.

Poor fight yeah . Manny wasnt looking good at all and Barrera was clearly past it so it made for a bit of a letdown action wise .
Pac kept crossing himself . He looked liek a fighter in trouble but he got the job done and can put it down to a bad night and move on . Next time train properly

Re: Did you enjoy the Manny fight? I didnt, both fighters looked poor....
If you were a manny fan and rooting for manny then yes, Quite distressing viewing..
But for those rooting for barrera it was comfortable to watch and a calming pace for Marco's gameplan..
I wouldnt go as far to agree with too many of your statements and only manny really knows whether his pop was coming and going throughout or if it was in fact down to marco and the way in which he seemed to have discovered and awkward variation of his boxing style to keep the pace a little more in his favour..
I would rather believe it was more likely that marco that kept manny slightly in check although pac wasnt guning for a fight like we may have seen before, However ..If he had perhaps it may not have done him any favours as barrera was sharp with counters and movement, But inconsistant during every other round..
There are alot of angles to be thought of when analysing this fight..

I think you're over complicating it.There aren't that many angles at all. Manny didn't fight at any sort of ferocius pace as we are used to,he's Ko'ed this guy before yet was gun shy and he looked off balance. He looked wild, out of sync,as if he hadn't prepared well,as if the fire was gone. I mean the fact that he never hurt MAB at any point was disappointing. MAB was just giving him simple angles and he could not handle it.
As for MAB,like I said, when your corner tells you to do more, you're doing something wrong,it just came across like he was there to survive.MAB didn't try to win the fight enough imo. Even the 12th round, when the fight could have been close for all he knew,he was just walking around, flicking a jab.

I disagree, His work wasnt urgent, He looked calm but he knew he had to keep a certain pace else he may get hammered,
If you have boxed then you can relate to that, Course not everyone is a barrera, But when you get hammered then you tend to get extra careful and want to do your work with the least risk.. Quite understandable..
He didnt run or stop throwing..It wasnt dead exciting but hedidnt look to have lost his will to win imo

Re: Did you enjoy the Manny fight? I didnt, both fighters looked poor....
i notice that pac abandoned his jab jab straight combo and relied solely on move head left-right then pop a fast straight. is that the new manila ice? ehehehe well it worked a little but its not as effective as his old combo.
i think its just a bad case of mab to scared to get KD/KO and pac not confident with his stamina cause of troubles with his weight. both were gun shy but mab has more to lose.
-
Re: Did you enjoy the Manny fight? I didnt, both fighters looked poor....
I agree El Gamo, very disappointing fight and I was pumped for a war. Oh, you can't always get what you want. Congrats to "Pacman" though, he won and that's that!! At least I know who my daddy is though, thanks to Pacstraight :'(
-
Re: Did you enjoy the Manny fight? I didnt, both fighters looked poor....
Ang hell yeah Gamo, Andrade is my boy!!! I was actually more excited about seeing him then MAB/PAC. He is TOUGH, but so sloppy. I don't know why Mack stayed right there inside with him, that was dumb. Probably thought he could hit him at will and k.o. him. Well, he won't do that again. Someone wants to get to the top of the 168's, they'll have to get past Andrade!!!

LMAO,hahaha,I like it! Yeah man,I was not the only one,I've seen and heard of plenty of people dissappointed by the fight. I was not expecting an all out war but I dam sure as hell was expecting more effort from both fighters. There was more action in Manny's fight with the frighteningly weight drained Morales and their 3 rounds!

Yeah,I love Andrade, awesome fighter to watch, rugged, tough, sloppy but so so exciting. That was the best fight of that card imo. Mack made a big mistake standing and trading,he was doing better when he just blocked and countered. I was surprised he dropped Librado though,it was a temple shot wasn't it? And dam straight,Andrade is going to give anyone at the weight a tough,he's a good test to see if they are elite or not. Want to see him fight Froch or someone like that/

Re: Did you enjoy the Manny fight? I didnt, both fighters looked poor....
man, im with you Gamo. i was really pumped up for this fight as well. although i kinda blame mab for the outcome of this fight. i am disappointed in pac too. but everytime pac would set up to the rush.mab keeps back off or clinching him. i think pac and freddy prepared for an all out war since mab has been saying he wants revenge. pac came in with one plan and it was to go toe-to-toe with mab. their plan backfired when mab who said he had plan a b and c decided to use plan d which the plan to keep backing off and holding back. both fighters did look poor but mab looked like he had given up. he was dirty all night long as well. he looked liked he came in and cashed in his 2 million and did nothing at all.

Re: Did you enjoy the Manny fight? I didnt, both fighters looked poor....
I didnt enjoy the main event one bit but i did like Steven Luevano on the undercard he looked like a real quality fighter very impressed.

Yeah, Andrade could get hit by a Greyhound bus and still get up. I'd hate to have to fight that dude in the street. F### that, I'd just shoot him ;D He got caught by a good shot but seemed off balance at the time and + the well placed shot put him down. I just laughed as I knew there was no way that was going to finish that guy. That knockdown is what gave Mack the illusion he could get away from a gameplan and boy oh boy, he made a bad decision. Live and learn ;)

I'm glad you agree bro,I know you are a hardcore Pacfan. Yeah,MAB looked like he just wanted to survive but Manny should have been able to deal with him. It was just simple movement, surely they must have trained for MAB to use alot more movement than that??
I thought Roach was poor leading up to the fight with his comments, poor during the match with his lack of urgency/at times silence when Manny came to the corner and dissappointing after the fight in his assesment of the fight. He should have been honest and said Manny looked poor rather than saying he was impressed with Manny's footwork ??? ??? ??? He was off balance, his right hand was non existent and his pace and rythm was poor to say the least. The fact that he won with a performance like that reflects even worse on MAB.

:coolclick: Gamo. I hated the fight. TBH tho, I was expecting very little because the fight meant nothing. I frantically got my streamtvnow back so that I could watch the showtime show instead, which turned out to be much better. Unfortunately, it finished just in time for Pac-Barrera to start, and seeing as we're pretty starved of boxing in the UK, I decided to watch. Was begging for the end by the 8th tho.

Re: Did you enjoy the Manny fight? I didnt, both fighters looked poor....
Lueveno is a very slick kat; good things for him in the future. I was impressed with Davis too, game guy and no quit in him. I wouldn't mind seeing them fight again at some point.

Davis pritty much stood there and took a shit load of right hands i dont know how he stayed on his feet and finished the fight.

Re: Did you enjoy the Manny fight? I didnt, both fighters looked poor....
Disappointing fight. Barrera is old and Pac is slowing down
The Hbo commenators made the fight worse, very negative.
Watched the Setana version later and was much better ..
oh and fack the HBO judges ... actually the whole crew

CC back, everyone has a bad night but if you're P4P,you're going to judged a little bit harsher. If you're fighting a guy you KTFO before, again, the criteria ge4ts harsher. If the guy you are fighting just wants to survive, that puches the envelope even further. I hope Manny gets his fire back but maybe he has reached his peak, maybe the fame, the pressure and all the other distractions have gotten to him? We'll find out next fight but if I was JMM/GUZMAN/SOTO,I'd want him now!
-
Re: Did you enjoy the Manny fight? I didnt, both fighters looked poor....
I agree he has reached his peak in the 3rd Morales fight.
These pressure high paced typed fighters dont last long.
Im betting that either Marquez/Soto beats him
If he goes up to 135 to fight likes of Katzidiz/Diaz he will get slaughtered
-
Re: Did you enjoy the Manny fight? I didnt, both fighters looked poor....
yeh, it was a dissapointment. Maybe this fight will make JMM want to gets this fight signed which would be great
-
Re: Did you enjoy the Manny fight? I didnt, both fighters looked poor....
I take it back though,I do feel some satisfaction from winning some sig bets. Where the heck are you Preme, stop hiding! >:mad ;D
It'll be interesting to see what Manny does from here. Anyone hear from the press conferece? Here are some quotes:
Pacquiao’s trainer, Freddy Roach, told the media, “Manny’s speed and power was too much for him, but Marco Antonio Barrera is very tough and resilient.
“Manny was fighting a smarter fight tonight. Speed and power is not enough to stay in the game long enough. He’s bringing more to the table than being ferocious.”
http://www.fightnewsextra.com/cc/FIG...fight-oct6.htm
Whilst Roach is right that speed and power wont keep Manny at the top,can anyone ever seen Manny being a slick boxer? I dam sure as hell can't. I really didn't see him bringing more to the table. Talk to me people,I want your thoughts.
-
Re: Did you enjoy the Manny fight? I didnt, both fighters looked poor....
I didn't think it was a terrible fight, certainly pleasant viewing for an hour but it wasn't particularly exciting.
Really from the first bell it looked as if a Pacquiao decision was the way it was going to go. Only occaisionally did MAB really try and engage and each time Pacquaio upped the tempo and forced Barrera back into a defensive mode.
I don't really criticise Pacquiao though, he won the fight clearly and was never troubled at all. He basically kept his nose clean and won an easy decision setting up bigger fights further down the road.
It reminded me a lot of the third Tarver Jones fight in that like Jones Barrera clearly had it in mind that going the distance would be a victory of sorts.
To that end he worked well, rarely looking in trouble and went out able to say he easily hung with the best little fighter in the world.
I'm not too critical of either really but then I wasn't especially looking forward to the fight anyway and I didn't pay to see it.

Noticed that as well last night. He throws alot of lesser power lead left straights and steps out to the side more nowadays. Uses the jab and bit more and actually throws right hooks. His head movement and overall defense makes it possible for him to adapt.

agree, you also have to consider that 2 o pac's 3 losses was when he was weight drained and he got stopped both times. pac was also specially wary of marco's head and other foul tactics he might employ.
other than winning the fight, it was a good ending to barrera's career though.

Your expectations were low from the start so pbviously you were not going to be dissappointed. I thought we were going to see a scintillating Manny show,a re affirment of his status as a top 2 fighter in the world.
And LMAO:@ likening it to Jones v Tarver 3,I always have that down as one of the worst fights of all time. I don't think this fight was that bad although after repeated viewing, I'm confident in saying it was clear MAB was there to survive.

i think its just a bad case of mab to scared to get KD/KO and pac not confident with his stamina cause of troubles with his weight. both were gun shy but mab has more to lose.
agree, you also have to consider that 2 o pac's 3 losses was when he was weight drained and he got stopped both times. pac was also specially wary of marco's head and other foul tactics he might employ.
other than winning the fight, it was a good ending to barrera's career though.
Were you impressed by Manny KK or you letting this one slide? I didn't think of it like that but you could be right, maby Manny was scared he would get KTFO because his other losses came because of being weight drained? Awesome point. He still looked really poor though.

:coolclick: Totally agree. Manny looked like shit last night...BUT...everyone does have a bad night.
We'll find out next fight but if I was JMM/GUZMAN/SOTO,I'd want him now!
if you've seen most of pac's fight, you'd observed that he usually doesn't do very well in significant fights when he's overwhelmingly favored to win as oppose to turning in some of his best performance when he's the underdog. so imo that played a role in this fight aside from the fact that he was weight drained and mab fighting on survival mode. i'm sure we'll see a different pac next time around when the odds are just about even or just slightly in his favor, better if it were stacked against him.

I was ready to stop watching after the 9th. As soon as the fight was over, I shut her down. I did not even stick around to listen to the results I went straight to bed. I knew who won.

Pac can't always please everybody. If you think Pac was boring last night, then what do you think no.1 p4p Floyd? Pac just didn't get the fight he wanted last night coz MAB was very cautious to trade.
Anyways, I'm just happy that FINALLY!... Pac won by a decision in US. He dominated most of the rounds, connected more, and inflicted more damages. JMM could'nt beat MAB convincingly, but Pac did it TWICE.

I have to disagree with that. He was almost a big a favourite to beat Morales the third time and he looked very good. He was favourite v Solis, demolished him. Ditto Velasquez. The second Morales fight 50-50,it was an amazing performance from Manny. I don't buy the favourite line, those are all significant fights and he did well in them,as the favourite.
He should have been able to cut off MAB and pin him on the ropes alot more. Surely in sparring they must have presumed MAB would move(possibly alot more than that!_) and worked on cutting it off..

Pac can't always please but if ever there was a fight to please people in,it was this one. Fighting an older fighter, past his prime, someone he has already KTFO,Manny being hyped as supposedly being in his prime, and he gives us that.
Say what you want about Mayweather but he turned up the heat on Oscar in those last 4 rounds and hurt Oscar more than Manny hurt MAB.Neither fight was amazingly exciting and I like Manny more than I like Floyd but I'm not having double standards. There were threads slaughtering Mayweather after the Oscar fight, Manny didn't look too good to me either.
Imagine Mayweather fighting Oscar, beating him, knocking him out and then fighting him again. And imagine the second fight being a shit performance and a boring fight? There would be an uproar!!!

I tend to agree. I don't want to sound like sour grapes because I lost my bet, but Pacman could have been much more aggressive and made a more exciting fight of it; as MAB could have also. In Pac's defense, I wonder what it's like for him to practically be a King in his native country and all the things that go with his type fame, and wonder if it has affected his focus now. Will be interesting to see his next fight.
