Lacy signs up with Golden Boy 5 fight deal
I just read that Jeff Lacy has signed up with Golden Boy Promotions on a 5 fight contract deal.
Lacy may fight on the undercard of Hatton/Floyd. (very strong possibility)
Lacy is down to 180 after being reported to have weighed over 200 pounds a few months ago.

Re: Lacy signs up with Golden Boy 5 fight deal
If it's true then it's good news.
I think Lacy would do well to be plopped in the middle of that camp with all that experience.

You've read right Dannny.
The 1st thing their gonna do is get him a new trainer, nothing against Dan cause he know his stuff but he & Lacy just don't go well IMO.
Also Lacy needs to get it thru his thick head that he needs to box a little more and use his jab, throw some right hands and they all don't need to be fucken KO power punches.

I have said it for a long long time, the best thing lacy could do is go with roach, his style is perfect for freddy, roach loves to train guys like lacy and turns them into damn fine fighters...
Roach loves golden boy, golden boy loves roach - lac is with golden boy... SMW just got a lil bit better;)

Re: Lacy signs up with Golden Boy 5 fight deal
Good luck to him. On his day he's one of the most exciting fighters around. Even if he gets back to 80% of what he was BJC he'll be a great addition to 168/175.

Hmm, with a 30 inch waist I very much doubt it, he is only little for super middle, he weighed a pound under the limit for the Calzaghe match and weighed less than 8lbs over on the night

Re: Lacy signs up with Golden Boy 5 fight deal
Good for Jeff. A good fighter, very very exciting to watch. I'll definitely be on the lookout for him.
-
Re: Lacy signs up with Golden Boy 5 fight deal
I've heard on other sites Lacy could be on the undercard of the Hatton V Mayweather fight ???
I for one hope so, would be good to see him again live after his fight with Joe, just hope he puts up a better display of his talents this time around ;)

Hey if u meet him u ask him.
-
Re: Lacy signs up with Golden Boy 5 fight deal
Dont need to, the tale of the taspe on his fights tells me he has a very small waist, someone that small doesnt balloon to over 30 or 40 lbs over weight, he makes supermiddle with ease, regularly coming in well under the limit and never putting that much weight on at fight night.
He just isnt that big, he could make middle I reckon and he would have a better chance of success there

Re: Lacy signs up with Golden Boy 5 fight deal
Lacy is done. Lacy has always been a one-dimensional fighter. And I think his recent injury has robbed him of that one dimension. Unless Lacy proves other wise, I see him as a journeyman fighter.
-
Re: Lacy signs up with Golden Boy 5 fight deal
Disagree wholly, he does rely on the power to much but he's not completely one dimensional. On his best days he's a very good fighter, like the Robin Reid fight. He was a top amateur, he has skill but he isn't all right around the edges.
Still, the return of my favorite fighter in boxing is very good news to hear. The Mayweather - Hatton undercard would be GREAT.

You and me both, cant wait for his return . he used to have a real decent jab early on but he kind of started looking to go home in the 3rd round instead of letting the KO come to him..
I dont get this whole 1 dimension bullshit VD keeps spinning, even if his left isint as powerful he has dynamite in his right too again an under 30yr old kid with 1 loss and he is a journeyman ::** I'll be more than glad to own your azz again for a Bet when he comes back ;)

I'm a Jeff Lacy fan. I hate to think it about him, but I feel the same way as you, D.
I think the Calzaghe fight and the shoulder injure derailed his career and the track he is on now isn't heading for glory.
I still like Jeff Lacy.
This is coming from a Vikings fan who still thinks Herschel Walker was a good idea ;D

Re: Lacy signs up with Golden Boy 5 fight deal
I really really do hope this true, Lacy was one of my favorite fighters for the last 4 or 5 years and i would really like to see him involved in with that camp. I am so happy to hear this. ;D
-
Re: Lacy signs up with Golden Boy 5 fight deal
Jeff Lacy still has potential which he has not reached....Calzaghe owned him bad but his career isn't over.
Lacy hasn't fought since the Tsypko disaster in December 2006...Tsypko was too good of a fighter for Lacy to use him as a rebound match.
Lacy should fight some easier competition before getting back in with the big boys and he should also fight often so he stays in shape and focused on the goal of being champion.
If he's unable to come back from these setbacks then I consider him a bigger disappointment than Domonick Guinn

Lacy tore his cuff in the 2nd round and battled through the next 8(unlike Vitali Klitschko who quit on his stool), like a 5k racer tearing his hamstring in the 1st mile and winning the race.
Lack will be fine

Re: Lacy signs up with Golden Boy 5 fight deal
Hey you can say what you will about Vitali but he came back MAYBE because he didn't keep going in that fight.
If Lacy sacrificed his career for a win over Tsypko then he's an idiot because where has it put him? Vitali became a champion again.

He's a throwback and a warrior Lyle, plain and simple cant fault a guy for that especially when he got dashed to pieces 8 months prior
-
Re: Lacy signs up with Golden Boy 5 fight deal
....and you're saying Vitali is not a throw back warrior simply for the fight vs Byrd and not even considering his fight vs Lewis.
Vitali is injury prone but he's a tough SOB too he fucking fought for a living but there is a point where it's wise to not fight hurt, there is a point where fighting hurt gets you MORE hurt and hell it doesn't win you any medals....just because Lacy beat Tsypko with a torn rotator cuff it doesn't make me think more highly of him and just because Vitali sat out once he tore his rotator cuff it doesn't make me think any less of him...he fought as hard as he could for as long as he could and his corner said no more and he went with it, in the end it allowed him to get healthy and get a title back.

Being a huge fan of both Vitali Klitschko & Lacy...hands down Lacy has a better shot at making a comeback due to his age & the fact that his back & knee does'nt blow out everytime he's on the shitter. :P
-
Re: Lacy signs up with Golden Boy 5 fight deal
Yes but we just don't know how this rotator cuff injury will affect him in later fights...maybe it doesn't affect anything but hey maybe it does but we're going to have to wait until he fights again to see if he's the same Jeff Lacy.
Honestly I think he needs to really improve his punch output and not just look for the one big punch.
Vitali was helped emensely by the fact that he's always been an awkward fighter and he's just bigger than anyone else. Also, if I'm not mistaken Vitali's back was the cause for the cancelation of the McCline fight and he had to have surgery on it again.

agreed 100%
reckon he'l be a gatekeeper for world class.

Re: Lacy signs up with Golden Boy 5 fight deal
To be honest, I hope that Lacy is able to come back from that shoulder injury and really make it back as a light heavy, because that division needs a good clear out, and maybe fighters will be less able to outbox him with speed at the heavier weight. Anyhow, I just hope he gets a proper run at it and signing to Golden Boy may well give him that chance.
