Re: Kessler will 'surprise' Calzaghe
Cmon guys lets not be getting ahead of ourselves here. Kessler is indeed making all the right noises, and indeed Calzaghe is not making the right noises (see "Calzaghe drops quit hint" thread) but I still think that Kessler has really never faced someone with the quality, 12-round workrate and awkward style that Calzaghe has.
I think that Kessler will show a lot of guts, determination and come-forward aggressiveness in Cardiff come November 3, but I think that even a creditable performance for him will leave him in a good position to dominate the division when Calzaghe moves on to light-heavweight or retirement.
-
Re: Kessler will 'surprise' Calzaghe
I see Kessler stopping Calzaghe early. A result that will shock the boxing world.
-
Re: Kessler will 'surprise' Calzaghe
Joe has bad hands and ain't getting any younger but he will still outland Kessler for a UD though I have no doubt.
-
Re: Kessler will 'surprise' Calzaghe
All I can say is that its about time the supermiddle division got a matchup like this! It reminds me of when Toney defended against Jones. But we all know what happened then, the less known younger up and coming fighter taught the more experienced bigger name (at that time) a real boxing lesson like hes never had since. All im saying is dont be surprised if there is a new supermiddleweight KING come november 3rd :(

If anybody beats Joe I hope it's Kessler, he is great for the sport.

Yeah I agree he is great for the sport but i would like to see Calzaghe win and move upto light heavy and fight Hopkins. Ive been waiting for that fight for years now. :boxing2:

Re: Kessler will 'surprise' Calzaghe

Re: Kessler will 'surprise' Calzaghe
Seen some Kessler on TV he looks ready for Calzaghe and I have never seen him move this quick and still with pin point precision and power shots.
Anyway I know as a Kessler fan I am biased so don´t take my word for it but see the 3. November.
I am beginning to think he even could take it on points :o.
-
Re: Kessler will 'surprise' Calzaghe
I'm totally 50/50 with this fight. I really don't mind who wins.
If i had to pick i guess id go with Calzaghe as iv followed him a lot longer than iv followed Kessler.
I also feel that the point needs to be raised:
Having watched many of his fights recently, iv got to say, i think Joe is one of the fittest fighters ever to step into a boxing ring and has marvellous stamina.

Re: Kessler will 'surprise' Calzaghe
Hopefully he will I want Joe to get KNFO ;D

Re: Kessler will 'surprise' Calzaghe

:coolclick: Agreed 100%.
If Kessler shows out & still does'nt pull a win...as long as it looks better than what Lacy was able to give he'll do fine in the future.

Hey Ono you wanna make this interesting and wanna make a bet then bro just me an you ??
Kessler's my man, no way he's losing, I've been waiting for ages for Joe to get beat.
Get back to me man an we will sort out what the winner will get (That's if your up 4 it ???) ;D

Re: Kessler will 'surprise' Calzaghe
I like Kessler and the way he fights, seems like a decent fellow, but I'm not betting against Calzaghe. Every time I think he'll get beat, he shows out and puts the whuppin' on the other guy.
I think Kessler will give him a great fight, but so far, Joe's just been too busy, too fast, and too slick.

The hardest thing of all is seeing whether age will take its toll. We've all seen examples of fighters getting old overnight and just finding out in their big tests that they don't have it anymore.
Whilst I think Calzaghe is smart enough to know if that happens, and I'm positive it won't, it could happen. But it won't.

the only real thing that worrys me is Joes timing...
He has everything he needs to get the win against kessler IF the timing of his hits are right... in his prime i would bet anyhtig joe would stop this guy, but right now its all about being smart, and he can do it all, but i worry the lack of sparring because of the hand troulbe could affect his timing, you watch je in the day and he timed punches as good as anyone ever did, but with almost no sparr time that could cost him the fight, he needs to be fast and time it to win this fight, his power has gone because of his hands, so he needs to out;and and out box kessler.
im still going for joe on points, but if kessler wins i will not be shocked, and i wont be gutted, i think he will be a great undisputed champ.

:coolclick: Heh heh heh.
Being a fan of both, but a Calzaghe fan first, I don't think that the hands are going to be a factor...in truth...I don't think that they have been lately...even when they came up for the Lacy fight.
I hate to say that...but I just don't.
-
Re: Kessler will 'surprise' Calzaghe
I like both fighters but I think Joe has far too much ring smarts for Kess, he's going to get hit from angles that he never knew existed just like Lacy. I think it will be a more even fight this time but I expect Joe to prevail by UD.
By the way its good to be here folks, I have recently been banned from the Hatton forum for high treason ;D

I wouldn't say they're excuses really, they're just the little things that start to set the doubts niggling at the back of my head, but I've always been a worrier, and was the same in the build-up to the Lacy fight.

Re: Kessler will 'surprise' Calzaghe
JC will win this fight. His style, speed and work rate is something Kess has never seen before. He'll be too awkward for Kessler. I think JC via UD. Calzaghe has awesome awesome skills and will cement his legacy with this fight. Surely there won't be any haters then?!

Re: Kessler will 'surprise' Calzaghe
Here is my opinion, how Kessler will win the fight
kessler will definatly land the straight right when calzaghe , misses with a straight left and falls in hands down, chin exposed.
it is a flaw in calzaghe , whats more calzaghe tends to bend down eye`s not seeing this punch coming , making it a harder more unexpected shot.
its possible calzaghe will be floored by this punch as kessler has the speed /timing and power to deliver this shot flush.
other than this/kessler has to control the ring center, as calzaghe will beat kessler IMO if kessler back up, kessler must get his jab into a rythem , landing or not to keep calzaghe from throwing so many combo`s, kessler must throw uppercuts to stop calzaghe getting the timing of his jab/cross and coming in and around them, and also to keep calzaghe from swarming in close.
left hook a big factor to stop calzaghe coming around the jab from his southpaw stance, kessler must get his lead left foot outside calzaghes lead right foot so he stays in balance and timing, from his orthodox stance.
although kessler`s best weapon is his jab, he must not plant his feet and go for great power in it , as his want but to double up on it and be lighter on his feet, this also will stop calzaghe getting inside.
must never play rope a dope with calzaghe, in this fight, tie him up on the inside and wait for the ref to break, as if calzaghe gets inside and makes it a phone box fight he negates kessler`s best arsenal which are long straight punches.
kessler must not blow his load early and must save energy for the later rounds as calzaghe can still throw a 100 punches a round in the last 3 to 4 rounds.
try to counterpunch the counterpuncher from range , dont reach with the punches/tie up when calzaghe gets inside ,let his punches flow at all times to counter clazaghe`s workrate, use light feet and move to his right as calzaghe likes to move and come in and around from kesslers left
BTW:It is not only my opinion, but many others,i read this on ESB and i have the same opinion,if Kessler can do this,he will win the fight

Interesting post . . .
About him ducking down . He has always had that posture . His stance is designed to almost curl up when a punch comes at him . He wraps his arms round the guy and once in the clinch he makes sure he gets his arms back on the inside so he can land his rabbit pucnhes . Then he is more than happy to box at range in and out with fast hands , sometimes slapping but sometimes setting up with bigger shots and when they come back at him he knows how to ( as you put it ) bend down . Its hard to nail Joe clean when he does that in this crouched position .
Eubank touched on it after his fight with Joe . His memory of the fight isnt what youd expect ie fast past , quick hands etc . He actually said Joe was very awkward to hit cuz he was never off balance and his posture prevented you from finding his chin . You can see what he means when you study Joe cuz he does it in every fight . He has a big frame and his chin is usually on his chest and he looks through his eyebrows like you are taught . Joes a very good fighter IMO

:coolclick: s to both...24 hours on yours jangeorg.
I still just can't imagine Joe gettin beaten & I truly believe that it will take someone like Hopkins to bully him around & hit him EVERYWHERE instead of trying to land flush & on point. Joe does throw constantly & from all angles.
I just don't see Kess being able to handle the rate.
Again...I have said it before...I'll say it again...if anyone is going to beat him...I'd want it to be Kessler.

Hopkins said he wants to fight Joe and Joe says he put 2k on Hopkins to beat Winky. Its a match thats gotta happen cuz they are clearly the top 2 guys around those weights . If it happend the winner would be the p4p best IMO . At the moment Hopkins is number 1 IMO but if Joe beat him he would have deserved the top spot .
Big ask for Hopkins cuz Joe wouldnt be outsized liek Winky , Tito and Oscar and Joe brings alot more than Tarver . At the same time Joe would have to be ready for a lot of tricks. Lets not get ahead of ourselves though cuz Keess may just throw a spanner in the works . He is a real threat

Personally...I would love to see Hopkins fight Joe. I think it'd be an amazing fight & I don't think that Joe would be half as effective as he has been with all these other cats that he's fought. Nobody bangs like Hopkins...Hopkins is just too up close & personal in your face all night long. Just look at the Wright fight...even though it totally pissed me off the way Hopkins fought...it totally took Winky out of his comfort element & no one has done that.

Agreed...but I don't think that Kess is going to be the walk in the park that most do...then again...I don't truly believe that he's gonna blast Joe out like a lot of other Kessler fans do.

Okay, for the most part I'm going to agree with you wack....both in your balanced view of what Kessler can achieve, and in what Hopkins would bring to a fight with Calzaghe. The one thing that I would point out is that I disagree about seeing Hopkins fight Joe. Hopkins seems to drag other great fighters down to his level, and he dirty fights like the 42-year old vet that he is. However many millions it would make on ppv and ticket sales, I'm not sure Joe would have the composure to drag himself up to fight his own fight, and not end up like many who fight in the gutter like Hopkins. Thus, I imagine it to be another tough, tight, rather dull but still compelling affair.

I thought Hopkins would win on points in that fight. Without making excuses for Winky I thought he looked awful at light heavy . He was really sloppy late on . But I was impressed with how Hopkins dealt with his style cuz as you put it nobody else has . He would land lead rights step to the side and land sneaky shots . It was a superb gameplan from a guy who was supposed to be old and unable to box at pace against a guy known for setting the pace . I was very impressed with Hopkins . Id be even more impressed if he could do the same to Joe .
superheavyrhun - It may be dull yeah cuz Joes style hasnt often gelled well with his opponenets unless the other guy really brings it. We know Hopkins wouldnt fight like Lacy so I expect it to be scrappy and a messy affair . Joes only got a superior workrate if Bernard allows him to .

Thanks doggy.
Here’s the thing…Hopkins is ruff & sometimes dirty…but not always. A lot of people that face Hopkins will tell you that he’s one of the most skilled craftsmen that they have ever faced…that it’s not so much the dirtiness but more the tactical choices that he makes that befuddle his opponents.
He comes in one way & totally switches direction the next. If you’ll watch him it’s as plain as the light of day what he’s going to throw next but when he starts firing he’s already gone into a different game plan. He also fires off the jab while backing out…if you get to a point that you have him backing out.
As much of a pressure fighter as Joe is & as often as he does push you backwards with multiple combinations…I just don’t think that he’ll be as effective with Hopkins. Bernard is more of a street fighter than anyone in the game & Joe is probably the most awkward fighter that Joe will ever face…Hopkins has seen everything in the book & he’s pretty much felt it.
I think that Joe’s output would be what saved him in a fight against Hopkins…but it would also be a factor in him getting his face busted the hell up to. Hopkins will pull him into the gutter (just like he does everyone else that he faces) & drown him in the drain.

It was a superb gameplan from a guy who was supposed to be old and unable to box at pace against a guy known for setting the pace . I was very impressed with Hopkins . Id be even more impressed if he could do the same to Joe .
I agree…Hopkins on points.
I was at Hopkins vs. Wright & I got up & walked out of the fight. I was so disgusted with Hopkins in that fight. He did fight dirty in that fight…I was shocked with the whole fiasco. Hopkins was in the wrong, the referee was a fucking retard, & Wright was definently suited for 175lbs or 171lbs whatever it was that he came in on. He looked flabby & sluggish. I don’t think that he got up for the fight like he said.
As far as him dealing with Wright’s style…nah…he plastered his forehead into Wright’s face more times than I have ever seen him do. Sure he got in close, sure he started negating Wright’s jab, but when you push in with your head…you’re pretty much going to shut down anything he has going on.
I just couldn’t believe that he got away with all the fouls that he did…& I am a HUGE Hopkins fan.

I don’t think that it’ll be a dull fight by any means.
The styles of both men would clash & it sure as shit wouldn’t be like a Lacy or Bika replay.

Re: Kessler will 'surprise' Calzaghe
Joe and Hopkins could end up looking something like Calzaghe/Bika because of Hopkins defiance to conform to what suits his opponent. Ugly fight.

Re: Kessler will 'surprise' Calzaghe
Remember what you were all say before the Calzaghe v Jeff Lacy fight..
mwahaha ..When are you fools going to learn!
Calzaghe will shut him out with his very hard jab and beat him up with his blazing hand speed.

Yes because Kessler will come straight at Calzaghe with no defense looking for the one big shot all night :-\
And as for what people were saying before Calzaghe vs Lacy fight ?? i said Calzaghe would win by UD.
Calzaghe has never met anyone as skilled as Kessler i know that works both ways but im getting a bit tired of these comments when i doubt you have seen much of Kessler i'll tell you what Kessler has very good jab very good technical skills and is basically the whole package Calzaghe has got very hard fight on his hands for 100 percent.
