Ricky Hatton vs. Juan Diaz @ 140. What are your thoughts?
Juan just finished what I consider his highest most dominant performance so far of his career.
I am not by any means comparing Julio with Hatton so don't go there.
If you just seen the Juan fight you'll know why this would make for a very interesting fight.
What are your thoughts?

Re: Ricky Hatton vs. Juan Diaz @ 140. What are your thoughts?
I think that Juan's probably gonna have his hands full with Ricky...not to say that he could'nt beat him...but has Juan faced anyone with that much movement?
I'm not a big follower of Juan. I've seen him fight about 5 or 6 times but could'nt break him down like a book.
Tuff call.

Re: Ricky Hatton vs. Juan Diaz @ 140. What are your thoughts?
juan will have a better chance against the smaller pacman but even in that fight i can't see juan winning cause even though he did look good just now his still pretty basic and his lacking power. he throws a lot of punches but thats not going to work his going to need more then that against the elites.

Re: Ricky Hatton vs. Juan Diaz @ 140. What are your thoughts?
Hatton too strong by half at this juncture. One for the future maybe, depends how long until Hatton retires.

Right on Wacks which is why IMO if Hatton loses against PBF, I think Juan should move up and venture into Jr. Welterweight. I mean beating David Diaz IMO won't mean much honestly. The only other fight that's there for him is if Pac moves up or if the moneys right and he gives Kats a shot? Other then that I think he should move up at 140 and give it a go there.

Re: Ricky Hatton vs. Juan Diaz @ 140. What are your thoughts?
I wont happen ever, but id slightly favor Hatton cause of his size. If it was at a catch of 136 or so Id go with Diaz. Diaz may eventually fill out to 140, but right now he has a strong lighweight frame and is at his prime there.

Re: Ricky Hatton vs. Juan Diaz @ 140. What are your thoughts?
Maybe I'm alone on this, but I think Ricky would have to get real busy real fast on Juan or he would have major troubles with that kids workrate down the stretch. That show he just put on was about the most 1 sided fight I've seen in a while, very impressive imo. I'd take Juan in a ud over Hatton. I'd love to see Juan go to 140 and play with Judah.

Well to say that he'll need more then being a pressure fighter to beat the elites is a bit premature IMO.
The reason I say this is because Monzon used to be a pressure fighter and who thought he would beat Nino? This unknown Argentine fighter who had never stepped foot in the US before?
Pryors pressure fighting worked throughout his whole career.
Cottos pressure fighting is working just fine up until now.

Right, but as I stated the Juans only just hit 24 yrs. of age hes still growing and IMO will eventuall be able to frame out the 140.
As a Lightweight hes pretty build I mean his body frame compared to most Lightweight is slightly bigger.
You know I used to underate Juan a lot but I gotta say the more I see him the more impressed and the more I see him improve in the ring. The kid improved his defense, his combinations keep getting better and better his accuracy is insanely good and the workrate is phenomenal.

Juan is just 24, but with his style of fighting he has a chance of flaming out pretty early. I see him getting much better than he is now

That's right he does run that risk.
As the fight started the 2nd round I told my friend here that to me it seemed as Juans pace appeared to me slightly faster then usual.
The thought of him gasing out did cross my mind in the 3rd round. But after that I was certain it wouldn't happen.

To be honest as of now I would not bet against him in any fight. I honestly cant complain about a single thing he did tonight or against Frietas and I have no reason to doubt him against anyone... Your right that he has improved. If you watch the fight vs. Cotto his defence is a lot better, and he really is a terrific fighter. Hopefully he will get his respect from the rest of the boxing world. Id rather watch him fight than Mayweather anyday.

Re: Ricky Hatton vs. Juan Diaz @ 140. What are your thoughts?
its a tough call man. we havent seen juan pitted against a great puncher and we havent seen him hit flush or hurt. its one thing being all that aggressive and i dont bash his style of fight coz i love it myself. but the only adversity i want to see is that how well would he do if he get hurt. how well would he recover after going down? thats really a big ? in his fight resume. i think hatton will hurt him.
-
Re: Ricky Hatton vs. Juan Diaz @ 140. What are your thoughts?
Unfortunately, I'd have to give the edge to Diaz in this matchup. The kid just keeps throwing nonstop. It would be a different case if he would tire at some point but in all of the fights I've seen him in, he keeps the same pace. IMO it would take someone with a lot of power to slow his work rate down enough to take the fight.

Re: Ricky Hatton vs. Juan Diaz @ 140. What are your thoughts?
If Hatton beats Mayweather it would be a huge money fight. And a guaranteed classic.
-
Re: Ricky Hatton vs. Juan Diaz @ 140. What are your thoughts?
Am I the only one that realizes that he should really like Juan Diaz, yet wants him to lose to almost everyone he could ever meet??? I think it is the cheesey golden boy fucking attitude. Mom crying and shit at the fight.....give me a break. Judah might be a pain in teh ass but we dont have to watch his fwocking mom crying or hear about him talkign to the league of women voters.
-
Re: Ricky Hatton vs. Juan Diaz @ 140. What are your thoughts?
Diaz has fought at 144 earlier in his career, sogoing back to 140 to fight Hatton might be something he'd do for enough money especially as his titles wouldn't be on the line.

Re: Ricky Hatton vs. Juan Diaz @ 140. What are your thoughts?
Juan really impressed me tonight, one thing that he has over PAC, Hatton, Katsidis or any of those guy (besides workrate) is that jab, in a fight against Hatton I think that would make all the difference, when he chose to use it, it was very sharp and quick.

Good observation k-Sheep ;D
Your right when Juan used his skill it worked hit thumped Julios face with 3 jabs in a row.
Can you imagine the type of collotion this would cause with Juans style and Hattons style or Pacs style where Pac likes to trade?
Wow!! :o

I agree Hatton too strong. I know Juan started at welter but hes a natural lightweight. This would be a mismatch!

I think the only mismatch would be for Ricky. He's only good on the inside, but Juan's workrate inside is much higher than Rick's. Juan is 5'6 with a 67" reach, while Ricky is also 5'6 with 65", and Juan's body seems much larger to me, so the size to me is really in favor more of Juan IMO. I don't see Ricky pushing this guy around at will for very long, as he'll have alot of punches to contend with. I see a ud over Ricky if not stoppage in the late rounds due to cuts, and Ricky would be cut. He'd have to do to Juan what he did with Castillo, otherwise a victory to Diaz. JMHO, but what do I know??? ;D

Re: Ricky Hatton vs. Juan Diaz @ 140. What are your thoughts?
This fight was very nearly Hatton's HBO debut in the US, if only Diaz had been a few years less green then. Diaz has many qualities of Ricky Hatton, I just feel Hatton is quite a bit more powerful, and a bit more economical, and is generally bigger and more experienced, however if he sticks at 135lbs I think he can be dominant for a long time in that division, he can be a TOP champion in years to come, he's ahead of most of the current superstars at just 24. Maybe he could even catch Hatton at the tail-end of his career. Very exciting future either way. Imagine Diaz v Katsidis! FOTY?

finally somebody who puts diaz into perspective.
he wouldn't beat hatton.....end of story.
he's good....but not great.

Re: Ricky Hatton vs. Juan Diaz @ 140. What are your thoughts?
Sorry you people are more then allowed to hate me but Juan could not break a potato chip with his punchs he has weak power and is pessure fighter means bad news once he meets a guy that has the power to knock him out and Hatton would knock him out he could not hurt hatton he has no power i mean he hit that guy 12 times in a row and it seems like the guy was not hurt in the whole fight i mean i think the reason they stopped it because he was lossing but i do not think he was hurt bad juan is good but if he moves up he is done and Floyde as much as i do not like him i rather see him fight then Juan the guy does not do it for me at all what happen to the Mosleys, Dunrans, Whitakers, Oscars, and JCC's i think he is doing well because the light weight is such a weak division i hope he gets knocked out and we can have a champion that is a good boxer and slick or a pessure guy who knocks people that fuck out and i am sorry i am negative i just do not like the guy sorry

I had to laugh when I read your opening cause I've felt the same way about him since the fight where he cried in the ring afterwards. It was a few years back and I can't remember which fight it was, but even the announcers were supprised when they announced him as the winner. I'm not downing him for crying, in fact, he was upset because he had a bad performance and figured he had lost so I don't hold it against him. The problem is, ever since that fight, I've wanted him to lose and I DONT KNOW WHY.
IMO, he is a very pleasant person so I can't hate him for his attitude. I like the way he fights so I can't hate him for that. The only thing I finally boiled it down to (and I still haven't fully convinced myself that this is the reason) is that it must be because he's really good at what he does but it's not like he needs the career. He's a smart guy who's going to be a lawyer some day and maybe it's just that I would rather see someone with that kind of talent have only boxing on his mind. I don't know.

Re: Ricky Hatton vs. Juan Diaz @ 140. What are your thoughts?
Actual a fight that interest me is if he would move up and fight Paulie i just wonder how that would go neither could stop the other because both lack power but either Juan would try to swarm him but i go either way Puile i think could pull a win off if he stuck to his jab and move because he has alot of speed and has good foot work i just wonder how long Juan going to stay lightweight for because he will eventually going to have to go back to lightwelter i just wounder when he is going to do it

Re: Ricky Hatton vs. Juan Diaz @ 140. What are your thoughts?
There's only one ricky hatton.
At 140 Ricky is the main man.
It would be a great scrap, but Juan's style would mean he's playing to Ricky's strengths and Ricky would most likely TKO him or beat him on cuts.

cc agreed completely.
Juan is good but i think Hatton is better in most departments....and he has the work rate to keep up. When someone with more power, better boxing brain and better movement can match you punch for punch.....your guna be in trouble.

Yeah thats a good analysis,
from what i no of ricky he enjoys pressure to be put onm him.
Billy Graham before the Tszyu fight describes hattons favoured method as being "an aggresive counterpuncher,2" Thats why Juan would be the perfect foil, putting pressure on, coming forward all the time and getting hit....a lot.

Re: Ricky Hatton vs. Juan Diaz @ 140. What are your thoughts?
Hatton looks too strong for him.
Sure would be entertaining though.
-
Re: Ricky Hatton vs. Juan Diaz @ 140. What are your thoughts?
I'd go with Hatton. Diaz looks to have the faster handspeed, cleaner puncher but Hatton is a little animal at 140. Relentless. I don't think Juan has the power to trouble Hatton, and I think Hatton hits hard enough to deterr Juan. Juan's jab could help him win rounds though,if he used it more often. I'd like Hatton via late stoppage.

Accuracy IS power, if you get hit in the head enough times your body fails on you, Diaz doesn't have that huge shot, but you don't need it to be Juan Diaz. No one is saying he's a KO artist but he's making fighters quit on their stool, even more impressive when you consider it's world title fights.
-
Re: Ricky Hatton vs. Juan Diaz @ 140. What are your thoughts?
This would be a very interesting fight..I think Juans workrate is better but Ricky easily has the edge in rib-breaking power. Ricky has better movement too and like somebody said a better boxing brain. If Juan just stayed inside like he did against Julio, Hatton would love him for it and dismantle him with his body shots...
STILL this is all well and good..but I just don't see Juan moving up...if anything in my eyes he could stand to lose a few pounds. He doesn't look in the best shape (although cardiovascullarly amazing!) and if he dropped the bodyfat he could easily move down a division. So I don't think that the best move for him would be to move up to light welter just yet. I think it would be more of a hindrance to him than an advantage. He needs to lean up a bit before he moves up because he's chubby as it is. If he added more weight to his frame at this stage i've got to believe it wouldn't be 'good' weight. Just my 2 cents..

I agree with theory..how many people have quit against this guy so far....frietas, diaz, has there been any others ??

Re: Ricky Hatton vs. Juan Diaz @ 140. What are your thoughts?
32 or 33 wins and 17 ko's his power is not that great even with the accuracy he can not knock people out i mean my god i seen he hit a guy like 12 times in a row and nothing the guy barely blinks i just think his style is going to end his career early he is a pessure fighter with no power and i am surprised he has made it this far and moving up in weight he might find problems because unlike Paulie he does not try to box and move and he will be with bigger hitter that have twice his power and that might be the end of them if he can not back them up then what is he going to do sorry i come off harsh on Juan

No, I think you make some valid points..I think he should stay put for the time being. CC
