See...now I'm just the opposite.
I like Mora (not as a person) in the ring. He's got game & he can put his punches together...but he needs to be humbled.

He got 1million dollars and a fake title for beating 4 journeymen(i really hesitate to put this slash but i suppose it is necessary)/fringe "contenders" ::**. There's people in legit title matches against legit opposition that don't make that much. How can you be down to earth after that?

Re: Sergio Mora & Alfonso Gomez make weight & are back in action Tuesday night.
Why do people hate Sergio Mora so much?
And can the person who gives that answer mention more then Sergio talking trash to Manfredo's father on the season finale..
Who still lives in 2001 ???

See I really don't see him as being arrogant at all. He's just confident in himself and rather like Jermain Taylor sometimes has to stand up for himself during interviews as he obviously feels the pressure of being labelled a 'reality tv' club fighter and not a real professional.
A lot of people said that Jermain Taylor became arrogant after winning his titles over Hopkins but I never saw that. Rather he was speaking in defiance of all the critics who questioned the worthiness of his reign and whether his some of his victories were fair judging.
Sergio gets the same deal, pretty much ridiculed by being the 'Contender' champion his name is a source of amusement to many and in his interviews he speaks confidently and stands up for himself and his own credibility as a fighter.
If you watched the Contender show I really don't see what there is about him not to like. A poor kid growing up he refused to get involved in any of the house bitching unlike the Brinkley's, Ishe Smith's and Manfredo's etc. He was fighting to provide a better life for himself and his family and wanted to do well so his elderly mother could stop working.
He was also well read, hard working and belived he had the tools to win.
I always liked him on the show and have grown to respect him as a fighter thanks to his performances since.
He reminds me very much of Paulie Malignnagi, a fighter who was loathed by almost everybody until his fight with Cotto showed a toughness of spirit and fighting heart that earnt the respect of fight fans and whom now mostly like the guy.
I genuinley see the same happening with Sergio. I think he will get a title shot against a big name like Pavlik, there will be hundreds of threads on here before hand saying how he's going to get killed and people saying they can't wait until he gets KTFO.
Then the fight will take place and Sergio will suprise everybody (except me and Danny_G) and give Pavlik a really tough fight for 12 rounds, finishing the fight and overcoming tremendous punishment to make it to the end losing a close decision.
I really believe that's how Sergio's future will pan out, and trust me I'll be on here when it happens to remind you all!

I didn't even know about him trash talking to manfredo's dad in the season finale ???. I hate him because he thinks he's the man and here is his resume:
20 fights
5ko's
no noteable competition
1million dollar hand-out from a reality show
Now I ask you, why do you like him? Any reason is fair game for this question.

Do you mean you should only like people when they display a certain level of greatness and achievement and that until they achieve they shouldn't be respected at all and only be loathed universally? If so I'd hate to live in your world. :-\
As for bringing up his KO record, you can look at that another way. He doesn't knock people out BUT he still wins all of his fights, if he's not relying on power (clearly) then in order to win he must have superior speed, boxing craft and skills.
For such fans who appreciate the pugilistic arts such fighters can be very entertaining to watch. Just watch Ivan Calderon's last fight against Hugo Cazares or Juan Diaz to see that power isn't everything.

No, i'm saying if you're gonna parade yourself around as the best thing on earth, have something to back it up. It's not about me giving or not giving respect, it's about him knowing his place in the sport by what he's done so far and keeping it in perspective. He turned down a title shot that he honestly didn't earn which goes ahead and blows away that whole philosophy that the contender guys are just waiting for their shot. He just waits for the easy money, he doesn't wanna a peice of any real threat. Pavlik could ofer him 25mil and that mfer would probably decline. He doesn't do jack until about the last 20-30 seconds of a round. At that point he throws paper flurries that causes no damage but usually steal him the round from the judges. There's a huge difference between dominating a round by using great boxing skills and what sergio mora does.
He's content with being "the contender" and receiving his reality show hand-outs. He doesn't want to actually challenge for a belt.

Re: Sergio Mora & Alfonso Gomez make weight & are back in action Tuesday night.
I'm actually really looking forward to this tomorrow. I like Gomez and for reasons I really can't explain I can't stand Mora, though I think he's got skill. Maybe just his attitude that comes across??? I hope Gomez flattens Tacki personally.

Who said I wanted him to be down to earth? I know plenty of people with money that aren't assholes. I just think that a loss would bring him "down to earth" in terms of his attitude inside the ring...he can be a total douche bag outside of the ring once he get's his ass handed to him...if it changes him inside the ring & brings him closer to focus...I'll be just fine with that.

How do you want him to act? He's got self belief and believes he's a legitimate fighter, he's confident that's all. What do you mean by 'know his place'? Do you expect him to say 'Ah I'm just a reality tv fighter with no punch, I'll go anywhere really?' ???
As for him turning down the Taylor fight it was a brave decision and shows he has a smart brain to match his ambition. Mora is a slick boxer but certainly not a puncher and obviously if he's going to have a chance at beating someone like Jermain it would have to be by outboxing him and winning a decision, he'd have no chance of scoring a KO.
When the Taylor decided at the last minute to switch the venue of the fight to Arkansaw, Taylor's hometown Mora pulled out because he knew he wouldn't get a fair decision if the fight went the distance.
He actually pulled out of the fight because he has ambitions of not only getting a title shot (a la Manfredo) but of actually WINNING it. Call him deluded or arrogant if you will but his actions spoke of bravery, of a man with a sense of self belief.
He felt this fight wouldn't be scored fairly, so he willingly gave up his big payday and title shot in the belief that his skills and subsequent performances in the ring would be impressive enough that he would get another chance and one in which he'd have more leverage and not be treated with the disrespect the Taylor camp showed him.
If he had no belief he was a genuine world class fighter he would have grabbed the shot as he'd know he'd not get another chance. He'd have agreed to whatever the promoters told him as he'd just be happy for a payday, but instead he stood up for himself.
He actually gained more respect from me after he pulled out, all depends how you look at it imo.

What attitude? Post a vid or a quote from him showing us all what an arrogant asshole he is?
He's no different from any fighter, actually much nicer than most. He gave Manfredo massive props when he fought Scott Pemberton at which he was ringside saying that Manfredo fought like King Kong that night. Contrast that with Peter Mafrendo who guest commentated on ESPN when Mora fought Regan and Manfredo just kept putting Sergio down.
But like I say, if you think he's arrogant or needs humbling post a vid of him at his arrogant worst

I'll let you fish around on Youtube or wherever for video's. If you could'nt deduce from his attitude in the ring & outside of it during the Contender that "the Latin Snake" wasn't a total douche bag...well then your'e just to short to see the length of his ass-holish-ness.
The guy's a jerk...but I like him as a fighter...he's just an asshole.
Period. Besides his personality...I like the guy but when he was on the Contender the way that he acted was that of a total twot.
If you had to deal with him...no matter what you say...you'd think the same thing.

Re: Sergio Mora & Alfonso Gomez make weight & are back in action Tuesday night.
I read thru some of the posts here not sure if this has been mentioned or maybe I'm just clarifying it here incase some people don't know.
The Gomez vs. Tackie fight will be shown on ESPN once that fight is over the telecast will continue on ESPNClassic.

I like him as a fighter...but his attitude in the ring...the mouthing off...the show boating bullshit...I don't like. I don't feel like I have to provide just cause for this...not just for you. I that were the case I'd have to back up everything that I said about Floyd, Hopkins, & many others that I like...some that are my favorites.

I'm not trying to argue with you for the sake of arguing but I could give examples for any fighter I dislike. Take Zab Judah for example, the mouth on him is unbelievable, and everyone could bring up numerous examples of bad behaviour inside and outside the ring, same thing with Floyd Mayweather, James Toney, Ricardo Mayorga etc.
But Mora to my knowledge at least hasn't done anything like that. I think people just dislike him because they don't like the way he looks or something ???

Re: Sergio Mora & Alfonso Gomez make weight & are back in action Tuesday night.
Mora carries himself around like his bigger then anyone just becuase he won the first contender doesn't make him a legend. People thinks he doesn't know that becuase yea he acts like his in the same level as Leonard just cause he hangs with him. In Realtiy mora isn't any good, so is gomez. Its all fine and dandy to have dreams of being the best but they appear to carry themselves like they've already achieve something great but really they haven't done shyt.

There are no videos of Sergio talking shiet. Those that have gotten to know me, know I appreciate Sergio.
Anyone who hates Sergio was a fan of some other Contender on the show. That's the truth nothing more and nothing less. What is so funny is that I think El Gamo has never even seen the Contender and he does not like Sergio Mora. (How can you not like some one you don't even know anything about?) Sergio is nothing like Malignaggi in the rude, big mouth dept. Sergio has always tried to be respectful and the only time he might talk shiet is when some one talks shiet to him first. That Manfredo Sr incindent in the corner was Manfredo Sr and Cousin Robbie's fault. They kept talking shiet to Sergio while they were in the corner calling Sergio a punk etc. And Sergio just told them watch this! And he laid the smack down on Manfredo Jr.
I repeat, any one who hates Mora, hates him because he beat Manfredo Jr. 3 times. If you hate Mora, you are a Manfredo fan. Cut and dry plain and simple!... or unless you are just a hater with out any foundation. Sort of odd people who don't know him, don't like him.? Sounds like closet Contender fans to me.
Sergio was smart not fighting Jermain. I hate to say it but no one can get a win over Jermain unless you knock him out. The judges all had Jermain Taylor ahead on their score cards vs Pavlik. I had the fight very close and if anything, I had Pavlik up by one.
Manfredo might get credit for going all the way to Wales to face Calzaghe but that is all he did. (Where is the honor in this? Did not deserve this title shot niether) Notice I said face because he never faught. Manfredo threw about 15 punches in totality in the entire 3 rounds. That was not a fight. He did not go to win. He just went to try and survive and then later just be able to say that he was in the ring with a great fighter such as Calzaghe. I hate Manfredo and his fans. Manfredo Jr is a bigger hypocrite and even a bigger hater than I am. So are his fans. Manfredo is a nasty yuk mouth yellow tooth islander ;D

TV: ESPN Classic 9PM/ESPN 10PM
Tickets: Available at

For the Record Wacky, Wacky.
And this sucks and it makes no sense.
Both Mora and Gomez are fighting on the same card, right? Right!
Both fights are in the same venue, right? Right!
Both fights will not be on the same channel.
Mora's fight will be shown first on ESPN Classic at 7 on the west coast and then instead of showing the Contender 3 episode 7 on ESPN, they are going to show the Alfonso Gomez fight right after. Does this make sense? The Contender people are about as dumb as a bag of rocks. They are always screwing shiet up. The word is, they can not even give away tickects to this event. How embarrassing!

Who said I wanted him to be down to earth? I know plenty of people with money that aren't assholes. I just think that a loss would bring him "down to earth" in terms of his attitude inside the ring...he can be a total douche bag outside of the ring once he get's his a** handed to him...if it changes him inside the ring & brings him closer to focus...I'll be just fine with that.

:coolclick: buddy it's you and me against the world baby!
I'm not against Manfredo though, I do like the kid, he's a tryer you know, fight anyone anywhere kind of fighter. Plus he's a quiet goofy kid with a gorgeous little girl and a cute wife whose his rock. I think it's easier to relate to Manfredo as he's the classic boy next door. I also think that as a result of that he was given preference on the original show and certainly afterwards by the Contender people who clearly recognised that along with Alfonso Gomez he is the most marketable of all the Contenders.
On that point has it suprised people how much they have tried their best to just act as if the second series never existed?
In this third series Mora is next to Leonard at virtually every fight, both he, Alfonso and Peter have made guest appearances on the show, as they did on the second series but the 2nd round fighters have just been treated as if they don't exist!
Only Forbes has been seen, to promote his fight with Bojado, Grady Brewer seems to have done a Lord Lucan a disappeared off the face of the earth!
I get the feeling that the Contender people themselves feel (probably along with many fans) that the first series is the ONLY real Contender series and always will be.
All subsequent series have been and doubtless will be nothing more than spin offs, like Angel was to Buffy or Joey was to Friends.

I'll let you fish around on Youtube or wherever for video's. If you could'nt deduce from his attitude in the ring & outside of it during the Contender that "the Latin Snake" wasn't a total douche bag...well then your'e just to short to see the length of his a**-holish-ness.
The guy's a jerk...but I like him as a fighter...he's just an asshole.
Period. Besides his personality...I like the guy but when he was on the Contender the way that he acted was that of a total twot.
If you had to deal with him...no matter what you say...you'd think the same thing.
Ok but give me an example then? He stayed out of the house arguments and got on with his thing. What did he say or do that pissed you off so much? ???
It would be tuff on me to back through the Contender & bring out every little thing that he said that bothered me...if I did that...tried to fish around for things that he said out of the way...randomly...I'd have a hard time pulling it out of the air...just because we don't agree on the fact that they guy's an asshole & we don't like the same fighter...I need to bring up the exact thing that he said to give myself cred or back up?
I can't just dislike the guy on the basis that I think he acts like a tool on a general basis? If it were a fighter that you disliked also...would I still need to back my feelings up with a quote or a video clip?
You know that the guy acted like a tool on the show...I aint the only one that feels this way.
LMAO!
I guess you told him.
Now he is fumbling around saying he would have to look for something etc that he does not remember why he hates him blah blah blah.
HAHAHA!
Sit down Wacky!
BTW great examples Bilbo of people who we know are ass holes and we can post a grip of videos of them talking out the side of their arse and or doing something stupid or acting in a way that is inappropriate. But when it comes to Mora, they suddenly get selective Amnesia. How convenient. lol

I can't argue with a lot of what you said. You touched on way too many issues.
I don't like Manfredo because he did not accept to fight Mora for a third time in Rhode Island. At the post fight conference Mora told Peter that if he felt so strong about the whole thing, that he would fight him again in Rhode Island and Peter did not know what to say. Freddie Roach had to lean into his ear and tell him what to say. And what was his reponse? Of all things he tells Sergio to kiss him while Sergio is phuking him, because Peter said he loved being kissed when some one was phuking him. What kind of response is that? You cry, cry, cry, saying you got robbed, you get a chance to fight him again to try and redeem your self and what do you do? You pee. There was an article posted today in which Manfredo is still talking shiet about that fight. All he had to do was say sure, I will fight you again in Rhode Island and that might have settled things a little better. IMO. I think even B-Hop has moved on and I think he was robbed twice. I am not saying Manfredo was robbed, I say Manfredo robbed himself by not destroying the soft hitter from LA. ;D

Oh no...please don't gang up on poor Wacko...not the two of you...please...I might not be able to handle it. :P
Anyways...as I was saying...I don't like the guy for his personality...his abilities I like.
I watched the show & developed that opinion...just because we don't agree doesn't make one more wrong than the other.
Danny...one day you will realize that it's not always about one poster gettin the upper hand on the other...until then...keep posting videos & crying over Floyd Mayweather beating everyone that he's faced...that will get you pretty far in life...when you run out of things there...start another thread about Zab Judah's shortcomings...everyone will laugh...again. ::**
Bilbo...again...you'll just have to learn to stomach the fact that I don't like the guy because he does indeed act like a tool.
Thanks for showing me the error of my wicked ways.

Ah Wacko we're not ganging up on you I just find it bizarre that practically everyone on here says the same about Mora that you do and yet none of you can really give a reason other than you just don't like him.
I'm not saying you can't hold that opinion so don't get defensive it's just that as I said in an earlier post reasons can be given for hating any other but him. It's not just you it's everybody.
If I held made a thread and said post evidence to support your view that Sergio is a tool I bet I'd get dozens of replies saying what a knob Sergio is but no examples.
He's just fundamentally unlikeable it seems........poor lad ;D

Re: Sergio Mora & Alfonso Gomez make weight & are back in action Tuesday night.
Here's some lengthy Q & A interviews with Sergio.
I think he comes across as quite likeable, not big headed and a friendly guy.
Watch them, I'm sure you'll hate everything he has to say but see if you can think of why. Just so you can explain it to me.
Don't get defensive about it I'm not at all trying to change your view I'm jusr curious to know what it is about his demenour that people hate :)

Many thought that he was a tool by the way he acted on screen in front of the camera during the Contender...maybe you should re-evaluate your position while on line here at saddo's. ;D :-*
Heh heh heh.
Just kidding...you know I don't think your half the douche bag that he is...HALF!!!! :bananastyle:

Danny...one day you will realize that it's not always about one poster gettin the upper hand on the other...until then...keep posting videos & crying over Floyd Mayweather beating everyone that he's faced...that will get you pretty far in life...when you run out of things there...start another thread about Zab Judah's shortcomings...everyone will laugh...again. ::**
Bilbo...again...you'll just have to learn to stomach the fact that I don't like the guy because he does indeed act like a tool.
Thanks for showing me the error of my wicked ways.
Did it feel as though we were ganging up on you? Sorry, I was just fooling around with you.

Re: Sergio Mora & Alfonso Gomez make weight & are back in action Tuesday night.
I really hope he wins this fight and any other fight that it requires him to win so he can get a shot at a champ. The sooner he gets KTFO (he will) and the sooner everyone quits talking about him (you probably won't >:mad) the better.

Re: Sergio Mora & Alfonso Gomez make weight & are back in action Tuesday night.
Gomez looked pretty good in Gatti fight i know Gatti was shot but Gomez still looked good he has improved quite a bit since the Contender series i see Gomez winning a UD over the iron chinned Tackie.

Who said I wanted him to be down to earth? I know plenty of people with money that aren't assholes. I just think that a loss would bring him "down to earth" in terms of his attitude inside the ring...he can be a total douche bag outside of the ring once he get's his a** handed to him...if it changes him inside the ring & brings him closer to focus...I'll be just fine with that.

I'm not a big manfredo fan/contender fan. But, Mora is an arrogant a$$, and i witness this in person. he thinks he is something special, but when fans heckled him before a weigh in, this is what they got in return.
He is man enough to toe the line with eric reagan (LMAO) look all bad and tough like he's ready for war, but turns down a fight with a champ? a chance boxers with way better skill than him DREAM OF and often do not get. He's crap. And i was really hoping for him to fight his last fight, but it got canceled.
He has to keep in mind, that he won a reality tv show, and thats it. I too believe he needs to be humbled, but he's not ready to be humbled. Because when he is, he hangs up the gloves. He is enjoying the ride right now, and it ENDS when he gets starched by someone decent power. He hasnt improved since the contender, he still bunny hops into his combo's and got caught once doing it and it sent his a$$ to the canvas.
i was waiting for ouma to fight mora...but now he will fight Elvin ayala who lost twice in a row to david banks (recent loser on contender).
Believe me. Someone who thinks their something that their not = arrogant.
arrogant - ar·ro·gant
1 : exaggerating or disposed to exaggerate one's own worth or importance often by an overbearing manner

Re: Sergio Mora & Alfonso Gomez make weight & are back in action Tuesday night.
Giving the Manfredo fans the finger was a nice jesture in comparison to what I might have said or done. They don't get any ruder than the people from the East Coast. You talk about people who are arrogant? Those inbred hillbillies you support like Manfredo and Joey Spina, those are some arrogant pr1cks.
Seriously, who does this guy think he is in the photo below?

Matt Huges evil twin? Trying to look hard into a webcam.
LMAO!
