Erik Morales thoughts on recent events...

Three-time world boxing champion Erik Morales said yesterday a proposed fight between Manny Pacquiao and WBA superfeatherweight champion Edwin Valero will be a slam-bang affair featuring two strong and fast knockout artists.
“It will be a heckuva fight,” said Morales in an overseas phone call from his San Diego home. “Valero is ‘muy fuerte’ (very strong) but isn’t technically sound. He doesn’t know how to control a fight. He just likes to finish off his opponents as quickly as possible.”
In the event of a showdown, Morales said Valero will be most dangerous in the early rounds.
“If Manny gets by the first three or four rounds, he’ll beat Valero,” said Morales. “But he should be careful because Valero will try to score a quick knockout.”
Top Rank officials initially said they would not promote a rematch. But that was when there was talk of Pacquiao moving up to the 135-pound ranks to challenge Diaz. With Valero now looming as Pacquiao’s next opponent, Diaz will be available for another taker and Morales could be a candidate.
Morales said he watched Pacquiao’s recent fight against Marco Antonio Barrera on pay-per-view TV and was disappointed by the Mexican’s refusal to engage.
“It was an easy fight for Manny,” he said. “I don’t think Barrera came to fight. He just wanted the paycheck. He fought for the money. He stayed away from Manny. I was disappointed. Fighters should always give the fans their money’s worth. When I fought Manny, I never backed down. That’s how I am. But I’m happy for Manny that he won over Barrera.”
Just some excerpts I thought would be interesting from one of the top 2-3 Mexican fighters of this generation. I totally agree with all his thoughts.

They are not going to make up overnight but you would hope 30 years later they will have there arms around one another, smiling and people taking photos.
Morales has a point Barrera did not let loose as if it was his last ever fight. I was a fan of Barrera before he sucker punched Morales but when Marco was trying to make up with Eric in their last fight Morales got petty and threw water at him saying they were not going to make up and be friends which was also childish.
he also seems to be a pal of Paquai.

Morales might, but barrera wont, id on't think he even gives a shit, wasn;t it after their third and final fight barrera rated morales higher than himself in the ATG mexican list?
If barrera was to 'keep it up' he would simply move up and beat diaz, that would be a blow no words would ever match, much like beating him 2-1

Morales has a victory over Pac. I like the both as fighters, but I've always felt Barrera was an arse as a person. He has an excuse for everything. Doesn't mean I don't agree with some of the excuses (if Jay Nedy wasn't such a shit referee, he might have taken Marquez).
I have more respect for Morales than Barrera. Morales always went out on his shield, and you have to respect that.

Barrera had his wars earlier on in his career and thats good enough for me.

I think its the reason. Barrera doesnt hate Morales . Just doesnt give him teh time of day . Erik is still dreaming of Marco , talking about him at every opportunity
Barrera hated Morales before during and after their 1st and 2nd fight.
It was only after the 3rd Barrera showed some remorse and a will to reconcile their differences.
Up until that point Marco had refered to Morales as a "stupid Indian," and i believe everyone remembers him socking Morales in the face.

I don't understand the last sentence! As for Morales being younger,I don't see how that has any relevance. And I think you're forgetting,Morales was winning the second fight until the6th/7th or it was certainly close! He lost every round of the third fight...the fight lasted 3 rounds....

The final sentence was a bit odd. I just mean that the Pac fight went wrong the first time and the second time out it really wasnt vintage Barrera. It was FAR from vintage Barrera.
I think Barrera fought a strategic fight and it wasnt enough. To expect him to go in there as a Kamikaze pilot is unjust. No way Barrera goes in and loses in 3.
Perhaps I was harsh on Morales. I concede that.

Anyone who thinks the third fight could of gone either way is having a laugh, barrera clearly won 7 rounds in that fight, roy and merchent both had him like by a few rounds... close fight maybe, but barrera clearly won enough rounds to win that. it was only when he took his foot of the gas in some of the middle rounds that morales got back into it, it was so one sided early on barrera eased up a bit, youknow how he likes to put on a show;)
morales beating pac just shows the people who live in the real world how messed up shit was for barrera going into that first fight.
You can spin it twist but history will remember barrera 2 morales 1. The funny thing is i remember morales trying to box in the third fight when he was down on the cards too.

The 3 Barrera/Morales fights where all extremely close. But no question in my mind Barrera won 2 out of 3. Bringing Pac into the equation to make a case for either fighter is pretty irrelevant.

Game, you also said that Pacquaio is the most OVERRATED asian. It was not about Pacquaio being asian. It's the adjectives that you use that made us touchy.
Regarding BArrera vs Morales, i got to agree that Barrera won that trilogy. Comparing the performances of BArrera and Morales against Pacquaio..... Morales won over Barrera.
