Cruiserweight physique question

Ive been thinking lately about my boxing career, because im currently bulking, but im not sure if I should go cruiser weight or heavy weight, because if i go heavy weight im pretty sure im gonna get injured..alot, considering after 91kg everyone is in the same division. But if im in cruiser weight I would be the heaviest, see but im 186.5cm(nearly 6'2) and my arm span is 196cm, so as a person Im tall so my muscle mass is distributed. With that being said, i would be much thinner than the shorter guys in cruiserweight who are bulked up (even though we both weigh the same).

I look at boxers like O'neil bell and and Vasili Jirov, and theyre around my height and I think to myself these guys arent big people, like theyre muscle mass is less than most of the other competitors because of their heights, and I wonder how do they pull it off so good.

In 2-3months once i reach my plateau in body building through bulk, im going to cut for another 2-3months so i can get down to around 85-88kg, and also I will be training with a gold medalist boxer, so Ill be in good hands.

My question is, would my height be an advantage or disadvantage in cruiserweight?

6'2'' isn't majorly tall for Cruiser, i'm 6'-6'1'' middleweight and iv been shorter than most of my opponents. Just give it six months boxing, let ur body adapt to its best weight for fighting, then weigh urself and make a decision.

ye but 6'1 for middleweight must mean your very thin and lean and not as much muscle mass as others. See i was around 70 somethin kilos 4-5 months back, and i was really skinny and lanky with a moderate body fat %, it never suited me, although I could throw 2 jabs before anyone could throw their first in speed, but it wouldnt be as strong as the others.

But Ill see how things go, because im still not sure what I would be perfect in for the physical boundaries ive been given

I think u should see your natural physique too, for me i am 5'9 but have very broad shoulders and thick arms and legs so at 200pounds i am not fat. Lastly fight at the weight class u are most comfortable at, maybe with the extra mass u might feel much better. Its more of the feeling whether u feel like moving up in weight or not. U can still be as good if u move up in weight look at holyfield :)

Iv got a funny physique, if u look at Gerald McClellan Bernard Hopkins u get the idea, iv got a lot of Muscle on the shoulders, upper arms and back, but im lean alright. I suppose that i do run a huge amount spo that contributes.

Looking to increase the size of all my abdominal muscles, they're quite well conditioned and hard but they give me a skinny look, so i want to increase them in sheer size, any help would be good.

lol ye i understand but holyfield was a genetic freak he could gain and lose weight like it was nothing, ahh man ill just see how things go when i start doing competition

Aight listen, the biggest misconception people have is that you can 'get bigger while your doing boxing', thats bullshit, you have to take time off cardio and do heavy weighted workouts. The reason why i say this is, because when you do cardio you break down muscle tissue, and when you bulk you build muscle tissue, so you have to choose which path you want. If you want to get bigger abs or arms or watever, you have to take time off. In your next holidays if they go for 1 month or 2months, stop boxing and do heavy weights, if you want bigger abs like you said, do low rep of 6-8 with weights (e.g crunches with a 10 or 20kg plate on your stomach, or leg raise with a dumbell hanging off your feet), (make sure its 3-4 sets perworkout, so maximum 6-7 sets in total per session) and do it 3 times a week. Then when you get back into boxing you can lose all the extra excess fat which you might have put on from bulking, but it shouldnt be an issue anyway. Also make sure you take just as much carbs per day as you are takin protein, and before workout up your carb intake by an extra 20-30 grams.

Then when you get back into boxing, to lean up, be extra strict with your diet around so its healthy foods and no rubbish and junk (even when you bulk u should be strict, but im emphasising that cutting is alot harder), and having good servings of protein and carbs, and as you lean up your abs that you have worked to bulk will start to appear

Never. I take a day off a week thats it.
But thats a great idea with the weight plate on the chest, usually i just bust out 2-3 hundred crunches and hope.

One more, iv got naturally pretty good shoulders and lats, but i wanna take them a bit further, i do shoulder presses for my shoulders, but nothing for my lats (There between shoulders and neck right?) Any tips? And i promise il answer any question u ever have about boxing technique/stamina training or pure Cardio. I'm only young but i have plenty of expierience in those fields!!!

lol its alright.

For lats just do pull ups and chin ups, and barbell rows. Pull ups will do your deltoids, biceps, forearms and lats, so i advise you try it, its a very good compound exercise

If u read my other thread, i lost a fight last weekend veeeerrrry controversially.
I'll be having my rematch in November so i don't want to leave the decision to the judges next time.

One of my older bros was always tall and lanky. Turned out he had to get several teeth/gums drained because they were infected. He didn't have bad breath or anything because it was deep but when the dentist got in there he nearly passed out from the smell and has naturally filled out very quickly since.

Strange how something he didn't even know he had for a long time was able to delay his filling out. Unlike my other bro he just grew up but not out until his teeth were fixed.

Maybe with all the recent improvements you've made with your diet etc you'll find you will naturally fill out over the next year or two and won't need to put much effort into it? Maybe since your body has been recovering from various injuries it has been under a bit of stress recently and it'll fill out more easily soon?

I dunno. Iv been 11 and a quarter stones every day for the past three years, just fluctuating muscle/fat balance depending on the training. And as for power, im not bragging but im well aware iv been gifted. So dunno if i want to fill out more, as i really dig the way i look now :D

Funny tho, my fourteen and seventeen year old brothers are both 12 and 12 and a half stone.
And my dad is a very trim 14 and really naturally muscular.

I just do weights to strengthen up parts of my body which will allow me to easily take punishment and ship a lot too. The reason im working on my lats is to strenghten up the shoulder.

Muscle mass, how "ripped" you are, has fuck all to do with boxing. Look at Bob Foster, Sandy Saddler, many others. Skill, ability, technique all that is so much more essential than how "big" you are. This ain't bodybuilding.

Ye thats true, but if you are skilled and have a lower body fat percentage it makes a big difference, imagine if your head to head with a boxer in skills, and you want to be lighter on your feet, less fat would make a difference. That's why alot of boxers go on strict cutting diets for a short period of time, and then they maintain it by upping their carb intake

'Muscle mass is useless without a well trained brain', lol ye thats true but a well trained person without muscle mass is useless, hits wont be effective, for a perfect boxer you need a balance of both, like don't get me wrong im not a body building or diet freak, but i still think you should come in the ring with mental skills, technique and also a physical weight as a foundation

Well u see the approach iv taken to boxing is this;
Iv learned to throw all my punches correctly, so what i do is practice my footwork, cutting off the ring etc. After that i throw as many punches as hard as i can in the most textbook combinations i can. FAST.
So u can understand why i withold very little fat and i want to pack on a little weight in muscle.
