Alfonso Gomez next fight?
Was wondering now that Gomez beat Tackie IMO pretty decisively who should he fight next.
Vote!!! :)

Re: Alfonso Gomez next fight?
I want to see Gomez fight Cesar Jr. It'll be a good fight for both of them

I voted Zab, but JCC would be in his best interest. I think Zab Vs Gomez would be a good matchup. I think Zab takes him tho.

Same here. I'd pick JCC jr. to pull off a decision though.

Re: Alfonso Gomez next fight?
The most dangerous fight for him is vs. Zab but I would love nothing more then Gomez KTFO! Zab....
That would fwocken be glorious!!! Like the rest of the people who have defeated Zab if Gomez can just weather the early 2 or 3 round onslaught I think he has what it takes to dispense Zab.
I voted Zab.

I'd love to see him fight Chavez Jr Mick that would be great match up if not then Judah i think Gomez has improved quite a bit since coming out of the Contender he was always my favorite fighter in the contender good to see him doing well.

Re: Alfonso Gomez next fight?
Does anyone else think that Ben Tackie should have his nickname as "blue"? It'd give me a laugh.

I'd like to see that too . Boxing is at its best when its two young fighters on teh way up .
I think Gomez is ready to be let loose on world class opposition now . Tackie and Gatti were decent B level fighters and I think Gomez is no ready for the next level . Not sure Chavez would add much to his rep but it would be a fight that captures the imagination anyway .

Re: Alfonso Gomez next fight?
That fight with Tackie was perfect for Gomez at this time. I like Gomez but I don't think he's the next coming of Mayweather, but he's solid and could have a good future. I think last night put alot of things into perspective for Gomez, his strengths and his weaknesses and everything he needs to work on. Tackie isn't exactly a spring chicken but was giving Gomez hell and exposing his conditioning. It will be interesting to see who they line up next for him. I'd really like to see him with another pressure fighter to see his adjustments from the Tackie fight. He's the only contender worth watching.

Re: Alfonso Gomez next fight?

Re: Alfonso Gomez next fight?
Zab would murder Gomez. Way too much of a step up. Quintana would a be a nice step up for him. If he beat Quintana, I would start to take him seriously. I want to see him in against a full-scale natural WW before I can take him seriously in that division. So far, he's beat two washed up JWW's. I wouldn't be surprised to see Quintana lay a beating on him, and I would be shocked if Zab didn't completely dominate him. JCC Jr. would be the other good option. It would be a good benchmark fight for both guys.

Re: Alfonso Gomez next fight?
I voted Quintana...Forbes would mean nothing if he won and set back his progress if he lost...Stevie is no longer reguarded highly....JCC Jr TBH is not a name that will do much to further the cause either he is still in the process of trying to prove himself while Gomez is at the boarder....
Judah reguardless of poular belief is still too much for him....He has only lost to world class guys with the exception of Baldo and IMO thats because Judah took him light....
Quintana would be a good fight...If he won it would help him break the top 10 if he lost it would be no shame and let us know exactly where he needs to improve befor going in with the world beaters

Re: Alfonso Gomez next fight?
Zab would be a good fight. I picked that

I disagree with you about Forbes he's by far the most respected and credible of all the Contenders from any series. is loss to DHop was hands down the most fraudlent decision of the year and he showed his performance was no fluke by beating former super hot prospect Bojado a couple weeks ago.
Forbes is still a threat now. In fact if he fights at junior welter I'd say he has a very real chance of winning a title. I'd fancy him to school Ricardo Torres, Gavin Rees won't be holding that title for long regardless of who he fights.
I don't want Gomez to fight Forbes because I like them both and don't want to see either of them derailed, however I'd say Steve Forbes is one of the top 5 or 6 junior welterweights out there right now and another title is certainly not beyond him.
I'm really suprised you'd say he's not highly regarded. He's been an 'opponent' twice on HBO now, and caused big stirs by winning one fight and basically handing the other guy his ass in the other only to be robbed by the judges.
He's on a roll.

Didn't think of that. That would be a good fight. I would guess that Collazo would be interested. It would be a good notch sword and he needs to pick up a win against a known opponent. That would be a good B.A.D. fight. I'm not sure it would be the best choice for Gomez, as he would probably lose and have limited options afterwards.
-
Re: Alfonso Gomez next fight?
I don't think Gomez is ready for any of those fights other than JCC jr.
Quintana is very tough and only took a beating from Cotto.
Zab is faster and could outbox Gomez, and I don't see Gomez hurting him.
Forbes would be a very high risk, low reward fight.
JccJr. is beatable, and would earn Gomez many more Mexican fans. It's the best choice out of those listed.

I agree with the fact Forbes would educate Torres fact is right now Gomez is on a roll with breaking that Contender image...To fight another guy from the show one that was a world champion would damage him severly in the aspect of making him a break out fighter....I don't think Forbes belonged on the show in the first place IMO he was above that....When a guy who was once on top ends up doing something like that his credibility becomes shaky....Forbes has a few good fights left in him but for a guy coming up there is no gain right now unless the up and comer is a no name...Gomez is now a name trying to reach the next level

I agree in as much as its a bad fight for Gomez but I totally disagree that he's a bad fight for up and coming fighters. There is a reason he has been on two HBO cards fighting top prospects in DHop and Bojado and that is a win over him IS a big deal for these guys, as he's a former world champ who is now well known.
I imagine he'll continue to get thrown young prospects eager for his name on his record and he'll continue to do well. I'm fairly sure his next fight will be on a HBO televised undercard also probably against another decent prospect. I'd imagine a fight with Torres, Holt, Harris, M'Baye or even Malignaggi could all be on the horizon for him and he's got a great chance against any of them.

I think I worded all that wrong...Trying to type and talk on phone same time....I was more or less trying to say he is a bad fight for a guy in Gomez situation....Gomez is just a name or two away from being in the legit mix or should I say considered a legit threat.....It is fights against some of the younger guys in the same situation he needs to fight...

Personnally I really turned the page on Gomez last night as far as Future.I must say I underestimated his Boxing ability and Imo he did well vs More than capable and willing Tackie. To me Its exactly who and what he needed.

Re: Alfonso Gomez next fight?
Calm down my fellow boxing nerds. IMO Gomez did not beat Tackie by very much. 6-4, maybe 7-3 at BEST. But more like 6-4 the way I saw it. And Tackie is pretty close to shot, he's got a ton of heart, but he was fightin Gomez at too high of a weight and with shot legs. The only fights that make sense are him facin Chavez Jr. or Forbes. He'd lose to Zab Judah FOR SURE, and probably get outworked and beat up by Quintana.

Agreed with the way you saw the fight, however, I voted for Gomez to take on Judah.

Re: Alfonso Gomez next fight?
I'd like to see him fight either judah or jcc jr. Did anyone else see Gomez say he didn't work as hard on conditioning for the fight with Takie as he did to get ready for Gatti? I didn't like to hear that but maybe he overdid it training for gatti? I don't think so because he said how he was in great shape for Gatti... don't know why he wouldn't put in the work to make sure he was peak for takie as well.
