Kostya Tszyu wants to fight again.
I was listening to a sports program on a radio station here in Australia the other morning (Mon or Tues) and they interviewed Kostya. He told the guys interviewing him that he would like to fight again. There are 2 big "buts" though. He wants to be sure that his family, in particular his wife, are ok with it and also he would need to find the "desire" as he put it (i think) to fight at the highest level once again. I think he also said (I was listening on a shower radio) thinking he was unsure about whether could get revenge on Hatton. Now i didn't hear that part very well so if someone else heard it maybe you can clarify that point.
So for me I keep thinking why???
He does not need money. After he paid Australian promoter Bill Mordey (R.I.P) back millions of $$ the courts here made him pay he has made millions for himself from fighting and from his business interests.
And if (and it could be a big IF) he doesn't feel he can get on top of Hatton then I don't see enough motivation for him to be able to do what's required to get back up there again after such a long break. I know he has been training and sparring regularly because my brother visits his gym but i don't think it's intense training.
This kind of talk worries me. I don't think it's a good idea myself. What do others think - if anything?

Re: Kostya Tszyu wants to fight again.
One of my all time favorite fighters. But he has nothing left to prove and should stay retired. No question he is still in fantastic shape. But at his age and with his layoff...why risk it.
-
Re: Kostya Tszyu wants to fight again.
Bad idea IMO. Don't know what he's got to prove anymore ???
-
Re: Kostya Tszyu wants to fight again.
CC's for the quick responses guys. Glad you agree with me and it's true he has nothing to prove and possibly could lose some respect. He is very well respected around the world and recently was even invited to spend time with Vladimir Putin in Russia.
He might have a book out or something and it's just a publicity ploy - hopefully.

Re: Kostya Tszyu wants to fight again.
I dont really want him to fight again, but it think if he could make 140 he could win a belt. Imagine him against Rees!!! He could use that as a tune up then take on Paulie or Witter.
Think i'm just dreamin again....
-
Re: Kostya Tszyu wants to fight again.
Is he still capable of making 140? At 147 he'd get killed IMO.

I kinda agree. They guys at 140 are huge now, Williams, Margarito, Cintron, etc.
I think its 140 or dont comeback. So if he cannot make it dont fight.
-
Re: Kostya Tszyu wants to fight again.
All past greats want to make one more run at it.....
IMO Kostya has nothing to prove and anything that happens to him in the future if he does return will just take away from his legecy,,,,He is perhaps the second greatest 140lb fighter of all time under Pryor.....ATG without a doubt...I hope he comes to his senses and stays retired
-
Re: Kostya Tszyu wants to fight again.
If he could train the way he used to, which would take that "desire" he spoke of then i think 140 wouldn't be a major problem. But just because he can doesn't mean he should and like everyone is saying he has nothing to prove.

Re: Kostya Tszyu wants to fight again.
Don't tell me if KT came out of retirement to humble Paulie or Witter you all wouldn't get a kick out of it?
-
Re: Kostya Tszyu wants to fight again.
I think it would be great to see him do well again. It would just be a shame to see him do not so well i suppose.

Undisputed at 140 again (as long as Hatton stayed at 147) would be fantastic, and if KT was even 3 years younger a possibility, but at his age i think he is best to stay retired and count his money.
-
Re: Kostya Tszyu wants to fight again.
To much time has passed, he could beat Witter easily IMO but can he make 140lb?
He is 38!!!! It's over for him now and the 147lb division is crammed with good fighters who are younger, hungrier and far more active.

Re: Kostya Tszyu wants to fight again.
Anyone know if Kostya trains or ever has plans to train fighters??? I'd rather see him do that then jump back in the ring.
-
Re: Kostya Tszyu wants to fight again.
He has a gym in Sydney. He also trains there and spars but not very intense training i think. I've not been there but my brother goes. I'm not sure if KT trains the guys or other trainers do.
-
Re: Kostya Tszyu wants to fight again.
I cannot see him reaching the heights he once reached. Why bother?
It would in the end just be a disappointment for him and us fans. As much as I miss seeing him fight, I have no desire to see him as another Holyfield being a shell of his former self. I hope he stays retired.
-
Re: Kostya Tszyu wants to fight again.
Age and inactvity, probably has to force himself to get out and train. stay retired I wouldn't want him hurt.

He already trains some.
I know he trains this guy....

Boxing News were talking about this guy's fight with Vince Phillips as Kostya's way of avenging defeat...which his boy did.

No way Warren puts Rees in with Tszyu.

Re: Kostya Tszyu wants to fight again.
Well if he does fight,I don't see him making 140 anymore! It would be 147 where I would not fancy his chances. Also,to be fair,I don't think he is 10% about coming back,I recall posting something similar to this about a year ago, possibly longer than that and here we are again. He should just stay retired, what reason is there for him to come back?

I would love to see a prime Kostya Vs Witter.....Tsayu BY KO and Witters mouth shut!!

Re: Kostya Tszyu wants to fight again.
For me a Kostya comeback would be sad to see.
He was agreat fighter and he probably could beat many at 140 now, id favour him over Hopkins, Torres, Castillo and even Paulie. But he's old now, he's been damaged and i just hope he doesn't return and get himself hurt by a fighter who wouldn't have been fit to finish a round with him in his hay day.

Re: Kostya Tszyu wants to fight again.
Idon't think he should go out on a loss. 1 more fight, just to end on a high.
-
Re: Kostya Tszyu wants to fight again.
Kostya hasnt fought in how long and is nearly 40.
Kostya was a great. But there is little chance of him making it to the top again. Especially a guy from the smaller weights.

See if he did that, the hunger to continue would be too great. he would fight on, and eventually lose again.

Re: Kostya Tszyu wants to fight again.
He might be able to get a shot at the MMWC welter weight world title straight off.
I heard that the champ ICE COLD BOXING is there for the taking.

You heard wrong ;)

Re: Kostya Tszyu wants to fight again.
He would need a tune up fight beacause of his inactivity and age. If he takes on a big name right away, he will likely be beat. Hes one of my favorite fighters but I think he should stay retired to be honest.
-
Re: Kostya Tszyu wants to fight again.
This is not a good idea.when a fighter says he needs to "find desire" that should set off red flashing alarms.
Tszyu Has nothing to prove and no one to answer to.He was a human highlight reel throughout career and until the end Imo never got respect he deserved. While other Guys have more padding than a teen girl on there early records Kostya in his 1st 15 had faced 5 past champs and some solid fighters (But he was given a gift in H.Lopez fight Imo),ok they were tattered and worn but good tests none the less.superb Amatuer experience as well. Stay retired champ.

Re: Kostya Tszyu wants to fight again.
Don't think I've lost me marbles but I'd give Kostya as good a chance as any of beating Mayweather, Cotto or Mosley. As for Paulie and Witter, they'd get knocked the fuck out.

Re: Kostya Tszyu wants to fight again.

He may beat Mayweather....... in hair length ;D He has no business at this point in his life getting in with any of those elite guys.

Re: Kostya Tszyu wants to fight again.
He have good chance at beating Mayweather if he had a fucking time machine and mayweather would agree to fight him
-
Re: Kostya Tszyu wants to fight again.
I think it's a terrible idea and he has to find the desire again then he shouldn't be in the ring, but i guarantee that Zab Judah would love to fight him again.

Tszyu's just turned 38, he was in his prime at 35, besides styles make fights, he beats boxers, with surgical precision. You have to be a real conoisseur to understand that timing will beat speed, if only Tszyu had faught Mayweather instead of Hatton, boxing would have such a different landscape.
-
Re: Kostya Tszyu wants to fight again.
I don't think it will happen, wiser heads will prevail and talk him out of his desire to fight at the top level again. I believe his prime was 1999-2001 and that seems an eternity ago, at 38 he will not be able to do what he used to do that made him such a great champion. He fought Hatton 5 years past his best IMO so this idea is crazy.
-
Re: Kostya Tszyu wants to fight again.
If Hatton loses to Mayweather a Tszyu rematch at Wembley next summer would make some money. They could fight for a bs 147 pound belt.

Tszyu in his prime at 35 ?? now i know your only saying that because he fought your favorite fighter Hatton when he was 35 no way on this earth was Tszyu in his prime at 35 with all the long lay off's your so biased.
If Tszyu would of fought Mayweather he would of got a boxing lesson you are right that timing does beat speed but not all the time because Mayweather is so good on the defensive aswell as speed that you can't just catch Mayweather with one big shot you have to put your punches together.
