I don't know about you guys but I've lost a bit of respect for Shane over this whole doping situation. Am I the only? Am I not correct in saying that he has gotten off lightly because he is such a nice guy and had it been someone we disliked,we would have called for much harsher measures to be taken against him?
Anyway,it's a good read. He thinks his speed and power will be the difference for the fight. He also walks around with a 25pound vest on,and does shadow boxing with light weights,does this actually work?

The weights probably make your power more "natural" meaning you're more used to throwing punches harder rather than trying to throw power shots. If nothing else, it makes you feel lighter in the ring and maybe gives you more stamina going down the stretch.
I agree. Mosley is such a nice guy; nobody has a bad word to say about him. Even Oscar is mum and he was the other party to that match (being business partners probably has something to do with it). If it had been Bernard Hopkins we'd all be ready to toss him in the garbage can.

CC,interesting thoughts about the weights. Totally agree with the second paragraph,as I've said before,no-one thinks it's a big deal because it's Shane. In other sports,like MMA,dopers are being punished,whether the product was taken by "accident" or not. Heck even in boxing,there have been boxers like Omar Nino who was suspended right?

Well I guess it's the same way with Mark McGuire and Sammy Sossa. Not many people gave them a hard time either. Regardless of what might've happen they are both great ball players and great guys.
Also, I for one tend to give people the benefit of the doubt. The fact is that at no time has Shane Mosley or McGuire or Sossa or Bonds have ever tested positive for any illigal substance. Untill they do, you won't find me saying anything against them.

Good article, thanks Mr. Gamo. It's hard for me to lose alot of respect for Mosley, he seems such a good guy, but that's hypocritical because if it was a fighter I disliked I'd be real vocal about it :-\ At least we still get to see this fight and it hasn't been called off. I am chomping at the bit waiting for this one. I almost wish they weren't fighting as I am a big fan of both. :'(

Shane Mosley admitted to taking a substance which was banned. So I don't really understand what your point is to be honest.
I take it you dont know much about designer Roids and Groth hormone do you? Just because I admitted to killing someone they wouldnt or couldn't convict me unless the evidence was conclusive and beyond a reasonable doubt... If they were testing for a basic Roid or Hormone and Shane passed the test but had other undetectable substance in his body than he passes the criteria.. You cant go back and punish him since "Technically" he passed the tests and there is no hard,concrete evidence just a confession, which again dont mean a pile of dookey unless there is conclusive evidence to go with it ;) You following me now?

Very true. I know many back then were able to beat the tests with "The Clear" at that time. Testing methods have caught up some so I do hope Shane is keeping himself clean now. The HGH issue is a tough one. I would not have any issues with an athlete using it short term in treating a severe injury, but even that would open a new can of worms and make it more available to the gray market.
If investigators were able to dig deep, I have a feeling many fighters would get caught. I know when I see chiseled up, bulky looking fighters now, they make me wonder.

Gamo do you have a source on this? As far as I can remember he never actually admitted to knowingly taking a performance enhancing drug with the purpose getting an illigal advantage. At least in the article I read it sounded more like he followed the trainer's instructions and was not aware there was something wrong.
I, of course could be way off on this. Please let me know.

This argument is lame because the steroids Shane took were DESIGNED to go UNDETECTED. That's why they were taken!! All the people associated with Balco did not test positive for steroids because they used "designer" steroids.

Hello? You, my friend, have posted something with many logical fallacies. Shane confessed-that's as conclusive as you can get! Also, what's a "basic" steroid? Or a basic "hormone?" There is no such thing. A steroid is a steroid. Shane did not take a "different" steroid. It was changed chemically to pass testing. They were still steroids. Of course, we can't go back and punish him, but we can change or reassess our opinion of an athelete who, in a sport where power, speed, and stamina are necessary for success, uses sterooids to get an edge over his opponents.

Yeah,he admitted to taking to taking it but took it unknowingly,supposedly. In the same article,he said he was "a health freak". Quite strange for a health freak to take an illegal supplement....

If that's the one you are referring to than that's the one I saw. I might look through it again if I get the chance but all that report showed was some acusations, a statement that he was a witness in the Balco case (but no specifics on what he actually said) among other things. Nothing really clear. I also read a statement from Mosley shortly after this where he stated this was like something they were trying out. They didn't know much about it and as soon as they found out it was illigal, they stopped.
I don't know if what he sais is true or not but the fact is that there is no way for any of us to know if he deliberately and knowingly took performance enhancing drugs. Like I said, I usually give people the benefit of the doubt. I'm glad to live in a country where you are innocent till proven guilty and not the other way around.
I would like to point out that this was only done for one fight and that was the seccond DLH fight. He had already beaten DLH once and I think his legacy was well secured by then. He is still considered by most boxing fans (NOT ME) to be the first to beat DLH and that was before he allegedly started doping.

You are the one who pointed to his popularity as being a gate pass for his lack of punishment.... Guess what he was accused, they had evidence beyond a reasonable doubt. So now he is awaiting sentenceing... thats how some one gets punished, so end it!!!

I do love Cotto AND I love Mosley as a person too!! No need for the hostility. I wasn't attacking JT nor Mosley. I was attacking JT's ARGUMENT, which is what they teach you to do in rhetoric classes. I was simply responding to JT's "logic," which did not make much sense to me in my opinion. After all, isn't what this site is all about-to express our opinions? Maybe Mosley needed steroids to compete at 154. That is a legitimate question, after all, his power seems to have become average after moving to 147-154 (less than 50% in 17 fights, 2 KO's in his last 11 fights, both against a finished Vargas).

I'm not biased. Had this been Margarito/Cotto or any other fighter,I would have reacted the same. I can almost guarantee had this been Margarito/JC or any other fighter you disliked,you would be calling for their head. And please enlighten me,are you a lawyer? Do you know alot about law?
If Shane beats Cotto,he beats him. I don't make excuses or start calling the fighter who beat my fighter "average" or other silly terms just for the sole purpose of demeaning them. That's not my style. I'm done discussing this point,there's nothing else for me to say.

No I'm not a lawyer, IYO does that diqualify me from being able to interpret the fundamentals of law ??? this isint a tough one... We have an admission, we have a fighter that passed all the tests administered to him and declared clean at the time. outside of that you have 0 evidence, technically there is nothing to tie Shane to cheating even know we all know he did and admitted it. without concrete evidence or something substantial beyond a reasonable doubt, there is nothing anyone can do about it unfortunately... If it was Margarito or Calzaghe I would be saying the same thing. The problem is, if they try to suspend him he can counter and sue because they have 0 evidence only a clean drug test
Shane cheated against Delahoya, shame on him, if he had dirty blood or urine and they could suspend him I would be calling for his head. What if he was beating Oscar down and permanetly injured him from steroid use in that fight, its inexcusable...

It's kinda odd actually hearing so-called boxing fans regurgitating a 2003 incident. To The Lay boxing fans; These allegations surfaced in 2003, post Mosley-Delahoya ll. Mosley's name surface as aperson of interest, because numerous professional atheletes, along withhimself was linked to the Balco investigation. Mosley admitted to taking "supplements" that were given to him to help gain the extra pounds to go to junior middleweight (154lb limit). He was cleared from any wrongdoing because the "Clear" and the "Cream" were given to athletes as a form of "Supplement", unbeknownst a form of steroid . In a statement released by Mosley he said the Drug did him more harm than good because he was unable to keep up his energy level. Die-hard boxings fans KNOW that endurance and stamina has always been one of Mosleys' strengths.
Fact: Steroids will not allow you to SUSTAIN energy over the course of a TWELVE round fight. Message: Lay Boxing fans do your homework before you respond and pass judgement.
