Both were golden boys, both were pretty boys, had lightning fast hands, very sturdy chins, were commanding figures in their times and dominant at welterweights. Man the list of similarities is exhausting who would win and why.

Sugar ray, as good a boxer oscar is sugar ray was better. Oscar has better power but would not land often, hearns the only boxer to give him trouble or guys who swarmed him. Delahoya is not a better boxer than hearns and cant swarm him. Sugar ray ud.
Sugar Ray wins this one by decision.
Sugary ray leonard  Classic
Sugar Ray was able to adapt when needed in fights. Oscar hasn't. Leonard by UD12.
It all depends on what era your talking about, 21 year old Leonard would beat 21 DLH, but 28 year old DLH would beat 28 Leonard, I think.
Draw.
this fight is actually a toss up, remember that the young Leonard liked try and beat people at their own game (example, Leonard/Duran I) so i think it would have been a close fight, but i'm pretty sure it would have gone the distance
Sugar Ray everytime!
He stepped up & won all his superfights, unlike Oscar.
Leonard on consistency alone would pull it out because they had good attributes but Leonard was the better boxer. Speed was also a plus and speed in this case negates power.
Sugar ray would stop him within 11.
Im disapointed by a ring magazine article about how todays middleweights are like the 80s era of hearns, hagler, leornard. You know, oscars like sugar ray, hopkins is like hagler, and hearns is like tito. The sad thing is that they not only picked tito over hearns(which is bullshit)but they also made it sound like de la hoya-leornard would be a good fight! It wouldnt! Ray had beat hearns, hagler, and duran. Who did oscar beat? Vargas ;D!?
Sugar Ray.
Lost 1st fight with Duran, he definitely lost the second Hearns fight, was schooled by Hearns in the 1st fight, until jelly legs crumbled, probably lost Hagler fight. I think Leonard was excelent, but overated. I think Hearns was a better fighter, with a weak chin and legs, Duran was better p4p and Hagler was better periodQuote:

I was thinking that Oscar would have an edge in hand speed- certainly in footspeed- while Leonard would be the harder puncher and be the superior in terms of defensive skills. Two "mental" issues weigh in on my pick. First , Oscar does not react well at all when hit hard by an opponent that he percieves as a real threat. I base this on how giddy he was over his blck eye after the Gonzalez fight (Oscar's best), those weird lulls in the Quartey fight , how after the Trinidad fight he gave me so distinct an impression of a man who had just been very very afraid and how he kept saying that their fight plan was that he not get hurt, how he seemed to be unraveling against Vargas, who blew it by looking for one punch instead of putting hands on Oscar, and his loss to Hopkins. Second, Leonard, as much as I disliked him (and Olympians in general) always found a way to win. Leonard by wide decision, maybe stoppage inthe 9-12th range. Oh with one caveat. Had DeLaHoya continued on with Rivero training him, he would beat Leonard by clear decision and he would be undefeated today. That man was creating a work of art and Clancy and especially Emmanuel Stewart should be expelled from the HoF for what they did to destroy Oscar's career and potential. Neither of thos two has a shred of credibility with me since then.
Ray wins without question :rolleyes3:
I think so too.Quote:

The only way oscar would knock out sugar ray is if he drugged him 10 minutes before fight time. Leonard by decision.
Being a lefty by nature Dela Hoya struggles working to his right anybody with good latarell movement always give him trouble. Leneord would make a meal of him
Suger Ray by UD....Unbelievable boxer. I would have benn a nice fight to have seen..Quote:

Sugar Ray Leonard, it would have been great to see who would have had more star power in the fight, but then again I have never seen anybody with the star power of the Golden Boy. Sugar with a KO in the 7th
I have to go with Ray on this one based on what they both did in their careers...Both legends but Oscar has never had the Marquee win...EG he lost to Trinidad and Mosley was blown out by Hopkins....
Ray lost to but later on avenged his losses and eventually beat everyone put in front of him ( were talking prime ray not the ray who was old and almost blind in one eye when he fought Camacho) Leonard beat Duran,Hearns,Hagler,Lalonde and a string more
Leonard easy
As similar as they sound, in the ring they were worlds apart. Delahoya would have a lot of trouble figuring out the ever moving, flashy and nearly untouchable Sugar Ray Leonard. On the other hand, Leonard would probably be touching him up and flurrying all over him at the end of every round. His hands are too fast and hes a smarter fighter (not to say DLH isnt smart, hes just not got the ring savvy of Ray). I hink ODLH would have a big problem with a prime Duran because of the styles; Leonard would have given him fits. Especially in the old school fifteen round fights like Sugar Ray was used to. In a 15-rounder Leonard stops ODLH in the 14th, catching him on the ropes and unloading a lightning fast combination that seems to go on and on, punch after punch until the ref finally moves in to stop it. In a 12-rounder, Leonard by decision. 9 rounds to 3 or perhaps an even more lopsided score than that. I just dont see ODLH being able to deal with that combination of speed, rhythm, skill and lateral movement. Plus Leonard could punch, too. There's a reason he was the biggest thing in boxing even though the sport was left in shadow by Ali back in Sugar Ray's day. It's because he was that good. Oscar is a great fighter and champion too. But i think they are in slightly different leagues.
Vargas fight ???Quote:

No way. Trainers are important but at the end of the day, they aint fightin anyone...you are.
Leonard by 9th round knockout. He was a little too good for Oscar. Oscar is great , but not that great. Ray had a spirit and skill which surpasses Oscar.
Excellent point and I use this also whenever this topic is discussed. Leonard also had KO power in both hands. Leonard scores 2 knockdowns and wins via UD.Quote:

This fight is not hard to predict. Ray beat all the good guys he fought when he was in his prime. Benitez, Duran, Hearns, Hagler.. And Delahoya did not beat the guys he fought. So my pick is Leonard by UD or late knockout. Oscar did not have the finishing skills of Ray or the speed. He has a good jab and left hook counter and knows the game, but Ray was more multifacited. Oscar came along in a time when he could look good, yet if you look at his record the really top guys he lost to.. And Bernard by bodyshot.
I'm not really gonna go there...aww the heck with it...Leonard lost to both Hagler and Hearns II!!! but aside from those I do see SRL winning this one..Quote:

As a fan of ODH I'd like to pick him but I can't....He would make it close and have some great rounds but lose a SD.
Fact is Ray beat the top guys he fought and Oscar did not. Although that might change next Sat. If Oscar beats Floyd next Sat. especially by knockout he should retire and enjoy that for the rest of his life.. Wouldn't that be something? Oscar knocks out Floyd for the count with a 10 count and then retires and does not give Floyd a rematch? If Oscar wins he erases the Tito, Mosley and Bernard fights. I think.. Maybe I am wrong. Case in point-Thomas Hearns did beat Virgil Hill in 1991 and Virgil was undefeated and had 10 title defenses at light heavyweight when Tommy beat him, and still people remember Tommy Hearns for the Hagler and Leonard fights. No one ever mentions the fact Tommy beat an undefeated light heavyweight champion. Never.
