Sugar Ray Leonard v Floyd Mayweather

Re: Sugar Ray Leonard v Floyd Mayweather
This is a good good fight. SRL's handspeed ??? the guy is like greased lightning cc.
-
Re: Sugar Ray Leonard v Floyd Mayweather
Ver difficult to side with anyone below middleweight when ur putting them against SRL
-
Re: Sugar Ray Leonard v Floyd Mayweather
Nice to see one Mayweather getting FWOCKED UP for once aswell ;D
-
Re: Sugar Ray Leonard v Floyd Mayweather
PBF gets KTFO in less than 10 rounds ;D
-
Re: Sugar Ray Leonard v Floyd Mayweather
As bad as Mayweather was getting roughed up he was still in the fight. And PBF is definitely better than his father. He looked winded and it was only the 3rd round. I'm not saying PBF could beat Leonard, but his defense and balance are certainly better than daddy's. But his laid back, counter-punch style would definitely be working against him against a guy who would hit you once and then twice more for good measure if you're going to let him get the first throw. I say Leonard roughs him up for the first 3 rounds and then PBF realizes he needs to come out of his shell and actually battle.

Re: Sugar Ray Leonard v Floyd Mayweather
Leonard would beat Mayweather. Leonard STARTED his career at 147, before moving up to as high as 168.
Mayweather started at 130. If they met at 147, you have to go with Leonard because he was naturally bigger.
It's the same thing when people talk about Leonard vs. Whitaker. You can make a strong argument that Whitaker was better PFP, but you'd have to go with Leonard in a head-to-head fight at 147, since Whitaker was a natural lightweight, whereas Leonard was a natural welterweight.

I agree with this and it bothers me when Mayweather is compared with great welters. PBF is no doubt a great fighter and by the end of his career might have a claim for top ten ATG. But I do not see him beating any of the top welterweights in their prime. Leonard, Hearns, Robinson, Armstrong, Napoles, Basilio, Trinidad, Gavilianamong others. All those guys, beat him at 147.
I would also say that prime DLH and prime Mosley would beat him at that weight as well.

Excellant points, I could not have put it any better myself!

Re: Sugar Ray Leonard v Floyd Mayweather
PBF would be stop buy Leonard in the later rounds i say 13 Leonard was power and speed was out of this world in welterweight
-
Re: Sugar Ray Leonard v Floyd Mayweather
He would have to be amazing at welter to be able to beat Hearns and Duran and Bentiez he was the man
-
Re: Sugar Ray Leonard v Floyd Mayweather
I wish i was alive when he fought so i could of seen him live all i have is film to watch
-
Re: Sugar Ray Leonard v Floyd Mayweather
Man,NOW we know why Floyds dad sounds like he has a mouth full of marbles...mmmhmmuummm..ouch mmmmmmmummhmm.
Leonard and Maywither share lightning handspeed and ring generalship..
Where they differ is Leonards willingness to war when necessary ......
I know I know Floyds soo good He Does not need to war. ::**
-
Re: Sugar Ray Leonard v Floyd Mayweather
I go with Ray all day at any weight....Ray is not just one of the best of his era but all time as will Floyd be when all is said and done....Ray had great handspeed...he would not allow Floyd to counter... when it came down to it Leonard had very underrated power.....So he would out muscle Floyd as well....It would be a great fight but Leonard would end up taking charge by the 7th...If Floyd pulled one of those moments like the Judah fight where he was losing early and trying to find his rhythm Ray would not even allow him to get in the fight though...
Many may disagree but just my Opp...
I also think Hearns would have destroyed Floyd./..If PBF tried to use counter punching on Tommy hearns would just wait outside and use his speed to crack the jaw of mini big mouth the first opp he got....IMO Tommy was faster then Floyd at 147 and 154
-
Re: Sugar Ray Leonard v Floyd Mayweather
Personally...I hate SRL...but he was an amazing combatant.
If SRL could deal with Floyd's defense...that crab shit lock up deal that he pulls...then I'd say...hands down SRL pulls out the stops...but I REALLY don't think that he could get around it.
Floyd's movement befuddles almost everyone that he faces & while Ray Leonard is a HOF champ...so is Floyd...let's just say that it'd be hard for me to pick the winner...but honestly...even though the defense & movement of Floyd is unbelievable...I would have to lean towards SRL.
But as a Floyd fan...I hate to lean in the other direction. ;D
...& when I say "lean in the other direction"...I don't mean that in a CuteMick sunglasses kind of way. :bananasex: ;D

I actually believe if you put all three of these fighters against each other 5 times each, you'd have a different outcome everytime. All three are at such an elite skill level that it's simply impossible to be bested by a single fighter numerous times, i.e., there isn't a fighter out there who has their number. I think it's almost frivilous to debate who is better, almost like debating who hits harder between a prime Tyson and Foreman.

Um he would definitely beat Trinidad. Armstrong had the feather weight championship when he had the welterweight cahmpionship so I can't see him beating Mayweather. IMO Mayweather has a close fight with either Robinson or Leonard.

Re: Sugar Ray Leonard v Floyd Mayweather
I think robinson will break apart mayweather but leonard versus mayweather will probubly be close.

Why, oh why does Trinidad's losses at middleweight always seem to affect his performance at 147? :shakehead:
I can't really speak about Armstrong cuz he was just from another century, but I don't see Mayweather beating anybody in that list.
Mayweather has to show me something at 147 before I put him up against any if the ATGs of that division.

OH without question....A friend of my dads had some old old Robinson fights at WW on reel film....I have his 1st Tommy Bell bout, Angott and O'neill Bell.....To see him in action was truly amazing....Even the second Tommy Bell bout when Ray was put don was amazing.....Floyd IMO could not keep the constant pace...this was no chess match in these fights....they fought!! and fought HARD with skill.....it is really one of those things you have to see
-
Re: Sugar Ray Leonard v Floyd Mayweather
Robinson would clearly beat Floyd, as he would any welterweight.
-
Re: Sugar Ray Leonard v Floyd Mayweather
Mayweather is NOT,I repeat NOT ant ATG at WW nor is he anywhere near being so. Even a Hatton win at 147 does not solidify him as an ATG WW. Why? Find me any top 10 rankings of the best WW with Hatton in it. I'm not questioning it's a great fight but it doesn't make Floyd ATG at WW.

Daxx,is there ANYWAY YOU COULD GET THESE VIDOES UP? ILL PAY YOU! ANYTHING!!! I want to see SRR: WW!!! I heard he was the perfect fighting machine there. Could do everything. Obviously the legend may have been exagerrated but he must have been good to have the record he had at WW!

Hell mate the guy is long passed away....Have not seen or heard from him or his family in like 15years...Wish I could I would of by now found a way to get them put on disc and off the reel.....My Dad used to have some Dempsey fights on reel as well...we would go in the basement with the old projector every now and then and watch them against the wall...When my Dad remarried his wife was a bit of a dip shit and one day while cleaning out the basement she threw the box of them away in the garbage.....Pop didn't speak to her for a month I swear....
Those things would probable be worth a tidy sum if still around

Re: Sugar Ray Leonard v Floyd Mayweather
I think SRR and SRL would be a great fight to see be the battle of the Sugars and i do not know who would win i like SRL to though to be honest with you
-
Re: Sugar Ray Leonard v Floyd Mayweather
Robinson wins against Leonard!
Leonard wins against Mayweather Jr
-
Re: Sugar Ray Leonard v Floyd Mayweather
Floyd Mayweather just isn't in the same league as Sugar Ray Leonard or Sugar Ray Robinson and never will be. Mayweather has less power and speed than both and both were tougher than him.
I really can't see why anyone would pick Mayweather ???
At Welterweight Floyd only beat Sharmba Mitchell, Carlos Baldomir and Zab Judah not exactly the stuff of legends. Decent wins but only 3 fights at Welterweight.
Floyd to put it bluntly has No Chance!
-
Re: Sugar Ray Leonard v Floyd Mayweather
srl wins this match.. would have been a good one
