The Baseball World Series
Ok guys, since I resigned myself from work and decided that employment wasn't really a priority for me, I've made it my mission to accustomise myself with these American sports that people play in ... America.
Football...great. Basketball.... fantastic. Ice Hockey....OK. Nascar....apart from the fact that it's racing around a circle. Baseball.....the attraction is still really a little lost on me.
I'm not saying I don't enjoy it, it's a nice game and I'm sure it's fun on a sunny day, but what is with the obsession with it. I don't mind watching it on TV, especially when the Sox are making it fairly exciting by whupping ass so well, but how could anybody sit there for four or five hours watching this game?
And does anyone think that this series is going beyond 4 games? The Sox look utterly dominant.

Re: The Baseball World Series
yes its going 6 or 7 games, Rockies will win. I'm tired of the red sox. The rockies are on fire, they have won about 21 of their last 22 games. No the Sox are not dominant they got lucky to get to the world series again.

But they're 13-1 ahead in the first game, I meant that they were dominant in this one.

ooh crap i totally forgot about the first game, I haven't even seen it. are you serious 13-1???
I was afraid that the rockies of before the 21 wins of 22 would show up :(

Re: The Baseball World Series
As a Padre fan I don't give a fuck.
OK, I know nothing about Baseball but I choose by which city I like best. I actually like both Boston (where I have many friends from my Lotus days) and I also like Denver - one of the most exciting cities - outdoorwise - in the USA.
I don't care who wins. But whoever it is, they're the best team in the WORLD!!!
Possibly.

Re: The Baseball World Series
I didn't play the sport much growing up, and only watch the playoffs, but its a sport that takes a tremendous amount of skill and has some amazing subtlties and strategy. Hard to just sit down for the first time and pick up all of the nuances. I go to maybe one game a year and try to go with my buddy who pitched at a small college. I learn a tremendous amount everytime. But 160+ game regular season and 4-5 hour games can be a bit of a drag. Ofcourse thats why they serve beer! :beerchug:

Re: The Baseball World Series
Sox in 5...6 if the rockies are lucky. You can pencil Beckett in for another win, then you just need Dice-K, Schilling, or Lester two get two wins. Money in the bank. The Rockies ain't scene nothing like Sox offense in full-playoff mode.

sorry, was a bit smashed last night after the game when posting..
but referring to the topic, i think it's easy for a lot of american guys to get into baseball is because we pretty much ALL played little league.. everyone plays baseball here when they were younger, so it's real easy to relate and appreciate how good these guys are.

Re: The Baseball World Series
OK, it's world series match number two here tonight, and Schilling bowling pitching for the Red Sox. And he's got his first man out after Tavares got sent up the first stretch after getting clipped on the hand by a high pitch.
So, who's gonna take this one. I'm gonna be a Sox fan I think, mainly cause I saw my favourite author Stephen King in the crowd there last night, and that guy's taste is good enough for me. Come on Sox.

They're 1-0 up bottom of the fourth, much better pitching tonight keeping the sox under pressure, and not many hits at all tonight. My housemate is asleep on the couch next to me....so that explains a fair bit about this game.

Boston's up 2-1 and the bases are loaded

Waste of a great situation...they shoulda brought out more runs than that from that innings.

This series is over. Boston is just to strong for Colorado

Re: The Baseball World Series
I really thought Colorado were going to get a few more points in the early innings last night, but they let Boston stay in touch and paid the price. It's a big challenge ahead of them now.

...it's not over until the last out.
Any Boston fan will tell you that....be it because of the past failures or the past comebacks of the Red Sox.
It's not over until the last out...I'm happy the Sox are up and I hope they can sweep but honestly I just hope they win in 4 or in 7 as long as they win

Bill Buckner ain't around no more. This series is over. JD Drew for MVP

#1 Buckner was a very good player and it wasn't his fault. Boston's relief pitching was horrible AND they still had to lose game 7
#2 WHAT???? Josh Beckett for MVP bitch!!!! He'll win again because he'll be pitching the clinching game for the Red Sox.
You have to remember the Rockies are still a good team and you never know what Dice-K and Lester will do pitching in Coors Field...the breaking balls won't act the same and plus those guys are rookies.

Stop making excuses for Buckner. It was a simple ground out. All he had to do was pick it the fuck up. He didn't. Cuz he chocked. And only a fucking fool would consider Dice-K an actual rookie. He's pitch in pressure situations before. And Lester is no rookie. How you figure he is? But it doesn't even matter if they get bombed or not. Cuz I think Boston hitters are going to kill Colorado's pitching.

Re: The Baseball World Series
it could be 2-2 back in boston.
hopefully....
-
Re: The Baseball World Series
The series is 2 games at Boston 3 games at Colorado and 2 games at Boston.
Buckner made an error but what about the wild pitch? What about how none of Boston's relievers would throw a fucking fastball?
You're not a Red Sox fan and therefore do not understand all that went wrong in 1986

Lyle, this ain't 86. I'm a real Sox fan, I remember every disaster since 1978. I live in Boston and listen to WEEI everyday and listen all the negativity, and I've lived through my share of it. This is not the same team. The dirty little secret about most of the other teams that choked/got unlucky/didn't win is that they weren't as good as this team or the 2004 team. The 86 Mets were the better team, and honestly, so were the 2003 Yankee's. Of course anything can happen, but there is a better chance of Hatton beating Mayweather than Colorado coming back on Boston.
-
Re: The Baseball World Series
Understood, but I am not going to be the one to jinx them.
I know how Boston has done bad in past experiences and I know how Boston came back in 2004 so I never rule anything out.
....I would also love the Red Sox to win in Fenway but hell I'll take another World Series win away from home.
I was really worried about the first base and no DH issue but honestly Ortiz is a decent firstbaseman, compared to Youk he sucks but Youk is a gold glover and he's a HUGE upgrade from Doug Mientkiewicz who was a great fielder but a horrible batter.
-
Re: The Baseball World Series
i don't believe in any team jinx, and the team this year has nothing to do with the past especially way back in 1986. The year i was born ;)
this is actually kind of new for the red sox, they aren't the underdog and they are not the ones down 2-0.
-
Re: The Baseball World Series
OK guys, tonight is the third game of the series, and I've picked Boston as the home team to claim victory in the first two, however I think they're gonna struggle to acclimatise to the altitude so quickly, and I reckon Colorado will take this one. I know virtually nothing about the game, but I reckon Rockies by 7-4, or a three run margin.
What're your picks folks?
-
Re: The Baseball World Series
Boston wins 6-1 to go up 3 games to 0
-
Re: The Baseball World Series
3-0. Boston's just to strong
-
Re: The Baseball World Series
this is over, no way rockies win 4 straight in a row.

Enough with the bullshit act, Lyle. It's over and you fucking know it. Colorado played it's best game of the series and still lost.
