who would win a DAVID TUA vs GEORGE FOREMAN?
Prime for Prime who do you think would win.
I recently watched a 5'6 qawi hold his own against the older george foreman (who was no push over). foreman had trouble hitting qawi cos he is so low to the ground, he fights out of the crab defense with alot of head movement (he knows how to fight big guys), similar style to David Tua!
Both tua and foreman have amazing chins. and both punch hard, imo tua punches just as hard as foreman.
i would have tua as the favourite cos
1) he is used to knocking out big guys who are 6'3 plus. he knows how to fight big guys.
2) he will block evade most of foremans shots but will still be able to take the best foreman has.
the above could also be said about foreman but i see foreman being stopped late on.
Imo foreman doesnt really enjoy fighting smaller guys who really know how to fight big guys (as qawi showed), and after watching the qawi fight i have alot of respect for qawi as a fighter. great chin, defense and alot of balls.
still i would take foreman over tyson although after watching the qawi fight i think tyson would have pushed foreman to his limits. if a 5'6 guy who isnt a proper heavyweight (more like a LHW or cruiser) was landing on foreman like no ones business, then a 5'10 tua or tyson who are hard punching heavyweights would seriously hurt foreman.
Like i said i think Tua stops foreman late or UD to tua.
what do you guys think?

Re: who would win a DAVID TUA vs GEORGE FOREMAN?
Are you David Tua? Tua might be able to beat Foreman now.
-
Re: who would win a DAVID TUA vs GEORGE FOREMAN?
i think Tua has a chance againest a slow old Foreman , but if you ever saw the Stevenson v Tua none piad fight then the outcome would be about the same a young Foreman owns Tua inside 2 rounds :)
-
Re: who would win a DAVID TUA vs GEORGE FOREMAN?
Haha no im not tua.
hey dark, i think you might be reffering to when tua was stopped by savon, when tua was 17.
did you watch the foreman ali fight, or the foreman lyle fight (who foreman thought was the hardest puncher he ever fought), them foremans would be owned within 1 round :)
-
Re: who would win a DAVID TUA vs GEORGE FOREMAN?
.....the only thing Tua could beat George Foreman in is an Eating Competition!
George Foreman would just thump Tua a la the Frazier bouts

Re: who would win a DAVID TUA vs GEORGE FOREMAN?
old or early is chose foreman

Agreed!

Re: who would win a DAVID TUA vs GEORGE FOREMAN?
Being short is never an advantage in a fight....especially when you are as limited a fighter as David Tua.
and people bring up Tyson....5'11-5'10 #1 ain't that short and #2 he was limited on the outside like every other short fighter the only resources he used to his advantage were head movement and combination punching both are lost on a guy like Tua
-
Re: who would win a DAVID TUA vs GEORGE FOREMAN?
Foreman Tko Tua Late.Tua had a Good Beard but Foremans was absolute concrete in his comeback,Yeh Cooney and Holyfield buzzed him And Alex stewart Made him look like a Hacthet attack victim But sturdy none the less.Foreman fought Qawi 1 year into a TEN year layoff and Imo Tua at prime(Vs.Ike?) would be made to order.Phone pole Jab and Vicious uppercuts would keep Tua off balance and Then The RIGHT comes .... crunch. :fight:
At peak Tua Was a war machine but as crazy as it sounds I dont think he was as good a puncher as he could have been.Should have fought more "squat" inside.Would have been good though.
-
Re: who would win a DAVID TUA vs GEORGE FOREMAN?
prime for prime...foreman crushes tua
tua may have a chance against old foreman but i doubt it, foreman would have clubbed hiom to death. tua's defense is and was pretty ordinary
-
Re: who would win a DAVID TUA vs GEORGE FOREMAN?
WOW! im shocked how one sided this is. both of these guys are monsters, i certainly didnt expect this. :)
i think because of foremans legacy, everyone is choosing him. you dont like to see an underachiever like tua next to a legend like foreman. but if this fight was happening next week (prime for prime) then ppls views would be different....atleast 50-50
theres no doubt foreman is a great fighter, the guy could punch harder than a mules kick. and he knows how to use his size as an advantage. he's lot clever than given credit for too.
physically, tua is built like a tank, standing in at 5'10. he's got a big thick skull (like 90% of samoans.) so he can take a shot. tua has underrated defensive skills. he uses simple bobbing and weaving movements along with the archie moore cross defense. so the guy saying foreman will use his pole like jab and hit tua with big uppercuts can forget it. how many uppercuts did ike hit tua with?
anyways, tua did fine against big guys like 6'4 bill corrigan and 6'3 izonretei, its about knowing how to fight against big guys.
to break the discussion down,
foreman was great at fighting smaller guys, he was a murderous puncher, clever and mentally very strong.
tua is great at fighting bigger guys, he is a murderous puncher, who is also clever and mentally very strong. (they both had serious chins)
to the guy who thinks height is everything in fighting-
if that was so then julius long would be heavyweight champ. its about knowing how to fight, using your natural strengths. lennox was a great outside fighter unlike guys like julius long (sorry for picking on u long). and then you get small guys who dont know how to fight (bigger guys) like holyfield (imho)
and then you get guys who are great at fighting bigger men, like qawi who beat a guy whos around 6'5!
i say what i feel is right, i try not to be biased, which attracts alot of sad clicks ;D
i hope i made sense ;)
-
Re: who would win a DAVID TUA vs GEORGE FOREMAN?
Listen Tua had a lot of flaws and never was a world champion and Foreman was able to get it done at 44 against same kind talent that Tua faced Tua i fell could beat a old Foreman but a young one that destroyed Frazier Tua has no chance you sound biased by saying he does
-
Re: who would win a DAVID TUA vs GEORGE FOREMAN?
ye maybe i do sound biased, but tua isnt frazier, he's alot tougher. doesnt rush into a puncher. watch the qawi fight and you'll see, this is a fit foreman, not the one that lost to holyfield or won against moorer

I'm a big fan of the Tuaman, but that's just crazy talk.

Re: who would win a DAVID TUA vs GEORGE FOREMAN?
A young prime version of George Foreman is one of the top 20 heavyweight fighters to ever step in the ring. He was also one of the top 5 most feared if not top 3 most feared heavyweights to ever grace the sport of boxing.
George Foreman in his prime did not hit hard, George Foreman in his prime was devastating with a capital D and two exclamation points on the end. This man was not only an Olympic gold medalist he was heavyweight champion in what may have been the greatest decade of heavyweight boxing ever. David Tua is a fighter I like and have always been a fan of but he could not win the heavyweight title in the 2000-2007 years, when world titles are almost a novelty considering there are four alphabet versions considered legit and some others not so highly looked upon.
I am not trying to take anything away from David Tua, he is a tough quality guy that has suffered some managerial problems as well as injuries. Ones that cost some valuable ring time. I just do not think he is now or ever has been the caliber of a prime George Foreman. We are speaking of a top level guy in the late 1990's and early 2000's versus a champion during heavyweight boxings golden era

YOu obviously never boxed on the inside, or else you would know that being sthort isn't a bad thing if you use it properly.

What makes you think people need a history lesson? The reason Tua never won a championship is Lennox Lewis who would have made Foreman look silly also.

Well said BP, Big George retired to early and his career is somewhat tarnished by his comeback late in his 30's and 40's. Big George was devastating in the early 70's, his demolition of Frazier twice and Norton is legendary stuff. I'm sure had he stayed focused in the mid 70's he would have been champ again setting up an eventual showdown with Holmes. George only turned 30 in 1979 when some HW fighters reach their prime. Tua would only last a few rounds with a prime Foreman.

My mistake. I missed the the part in the terms of agreement when registering where it stated, You must inquire with the poster who's name looks like he misspelled teeth before providing your opinion on any thread concerning George Foreman or David Tua. Please accept my apology.

BILL CORRIGAN...are u serious.I don't care if Your 7'0 tall,It does not matter if You have NO skills.
Its not a sympathy vote or a matter of "legacy" Or "underachiever ???Some would say that is an application fitting Tua ....Know why.......?For the most part unfortunately....Hes Underachieved!!If anything Its not Stocky slugger that gave Foreman Problems at all...Its Tall or same size Boxer/punchers who could get in
and out with fast combos.I'm sorry and its just my belief But You could bob and weave all you wanted Verse Foreman.....But If you came under him and stood there,You were soon to be done for.
Make no mistake,I at one time was the biggest Tua backer there was out there. He solidified fan frenzy with that night of hell vs. Ike.It was a classic and I was sold on the "next Tyson".I have followed him live Since his destruction against sad sack Mike Acey and have been waiting for his breakthrough ever since. He had a great run starting with Ruiz KO/D.Wilson KO and two back to back close fights with Maskaev and Izon that he ended beautifully. After Ibeabuchi Lose......Pooof .IMO its been all down hill since.Management issues,Discipline, weight Problems etc.His last outing vs. used up Cruiser Montana was keeping him active and He was at a prime weight.Good to see.But Tua beats Foreman??? No .Dont see it!

As a matter of fact I have boxed on the inside and other than maybe having what Tyson had in head movement and fast hands it's not a really awesome advantage.

you mistake Foreman being light as him being fit. Foreman realised that struggling to get his weight down was a disadvantage, thats why after the quawi fight he put weight on. sometimes light aint right. Foreman would batter Tua.
-
Re: who would win a DAVID TUA vs GEORGE FOREMAN?
...Well the thing that should discount that post is "Tua isn't Frazier, he's a lot tougher".....uh BULLCRAP I have never seen David Tua keep coming after someone who is just beating the living crap out of him....unless you count someone like Fres Oquendo.
David Tua would never try for FULL rounds the way Joe Frazier did. Every second of every round Joe Frazier would be moving forward and throwing punches.....sometimes Tua just looks like he wants to sit down and have a meal.

Tua was never a world champ because no one would fight him. Only Lewis give him a shot. Tua was dangerous for any brawler

That is a reason I find hard to believe. In no way do I feel that Evander Holyfield would not have been willing to fight him, Chris Byrd fought him another former champion that would not have refused to fight David Tua if he managed to put himself in line for a shot at the IBF title while Chris Byrd held it.
To say that David Tua was never world champion because no one would fight him is not a valid excuse for him not winning a world title.
-
Re: who would win a DAVID TUA vs GEORGE FOREMAN?
I agree with bodypuncher ..... Tua was a decent heavyweight, with a good punch, solid chin and competent technique. He did tend to be a bit one-dimensional and one-paced and faded a lot in the later rounds.
Foreman was an internationally-qualified MONSTOR, Olympic gold medallist, feared up and coming KO puncher, supposedly invincible world champion. Yeah, he lost to Ali because he, too faded, but an objective look back at history tells us he's also an intelligent guy who would not have made that mistake again.
George is too big, too strong, too powerful and too brutally confident for Tua, who would give a gallant effort, but it would not be enough.
-
Re: who would win a DAVID TUA vs GEORGE FOREMAN?
....if you ever wanted to see Tua get knocked the funk out then this would be THE FIGHT to see

Re: who would win a DAVID TUA vs GEORGE FOREMAN?
hi all,
i was enjoying all the posts until some pussy cat called me a poof ::**
i will try to make this sound as simple as possible, i will try to break down how this fight would go, so it is simple to imagine :)
both murderous punchers, with awesome chins, and both were mentally strong.
BOTH WERE COME FORWARD FIGHTERS!!!!!! ( remember this.)
now, tua has the advantage, cos tua likes fighting on the inside (cos he is shorter), and foreman likes coming forward.
if tua fights the younger foreman, the one that had no defense, and was almost ko'd by ron lyle, tua would win by brutal knockout.
its the older heavier, clever, more patient foreman that imo would trouble any tua. can you imagine a guy, no matter how hard they punched, the guy was not only sloppy when he was younger, but he had hardly any defense, can you imagine what he would be running into against tua???
this fight would be in close quarters because of the styles of the two combatants, thats why i favour tua in this fight, he would get hit less.
-
Re: who would win a DAVID TUA vs GEORGE FOREMAN?
Foreman would kill him, simple as that,Tua never had the type of movement that would have made up for Foremans unreal reach

....you have watched boxing before right?
You know David Tua is a fat sack of shit that never did anything with the one talent he had (power)
George was not only powerful he imposed his will and his fight plan on everyone other than Ali as a young fighter....Tua couldn't handle that pressure and that strength.....I bet you David Tua would have been sat on his ass within the first 3 minutes of the fight.
As for old Foreman, David Tua likes that slow steady pace better but the only reason he likes it is because he can sit back and do nothing the entire fight like he did vs Rahman last time.
Get it through your thick noggin that David Tua has NEVER been exciting the way he was vs Ibeabuchi before or after that fight....that is not the norm.
What do people see in that fat piece of garbage???
While Tua is out beating up Young George Foreman maybe he can take care of Hulk and She-Ra while he's at it.....all these fights taking place in Fantasy Land because they would NEVER FRIGGIN HAPPEN!

I can see how Logic and common sense can be an Intimidating thing my friend.Take a deep breath and comprehend one thing....A peak Foreman WAS the calm, cool, collected, come back Foreman! He Destroys Tua and No way was He a Full come forward brawler.Foreman was calculated and methodical Puncher who could maximize his opponents mistakes. I admire your willingness and attempt to swim up a waterfall though. Read the sentence again short-bus ....."after The Ibeabuchi Fight......Poof" Poof as in done/vaished/Gone/Finished with serious training and dedication that made him a once fierce and brutal fan-favorite.
-
Re: who would win a DAVID TUA vs GEORGE FOREMAN?
David Tua threw 60 punches a round vs Ibeabuchi.....after that you'd be lucky if he threw 60 punches A FIGHT.
David Tua like anyone else in boxing had POTENTIAL.....and like many people in boxing he never reached it either

Lyle I agree with just about everything you posted, except I do think that Tua is being a bit shorted on how well he would do. When Tua was in his prime his chin was outstanding. The fact Foreman as you mentioned above imposed his will so well the chin would only bring Tua so far though. George Foreman in his prime did not take a few rounds to get warmed up he threw bone crushing power shots from the second the opening bell rang. Joe Frazier can attest to that.
On one side what we have is one of boxings greatest heavyweight champions of all time, top 10 in my opinion as I mentioned in my earlier post, added with the fact in his prime years he quite possibly may be boxings hardest puncher to ever wear a pair of gloves,Third at worst. George also had a pretty good pair of whiskers of his own.
On the other side we have one of our eras top heavyweight contender's who had the skills to go all the way but as Lyle mentioned somehow did not use his ability to the fullest for what ever reason. Something that he has only himself to blame. Tua had some good bouts and is in no way second rate just an underachiever. Kind of makes it hard to see where he would be the favorite out of the two?
-
Re: who would win a DAVID TUA vs GEORGE FOREMAN?
I did get a bit carried away with that post...part of it is because Foreman is one of the best heavyweights of all time and part is because David Tua never recaptured what he did vs Ibeabuchi.
Foreman turned Frazier time and time again and the hook became useless because of it. Frazier would try to set it up and come in straight to land it and George took his big arms and turned Joe around and pushed him away.
