Strange Frank Warren comment (that confirms the Calzaghe fall-out?)
With the rumours that Warren and Calzaghe are splitting, here are kind of strange comments by Warren...
"This is the biggest fight since Nigel Benn and Chris Eubanks in 1994," said Frank Warren, Calzaghe's promoter. "I think this is a fantastic fight. Both styles complement each other. Kessler's style certainly does suit what Joe does best. It's just a hot fight because both guys are undefeated. Joe has been really come on in the last few years, a champion for nine years. Kessler has made a name for himself in his last eight or nine fights."

Saying it's the biggest fight since two guys he hates the guts of, and then saying how Joe has 'come on in the last few years' and been a champion for 'nine' years (when it's obviously 10). Interesting

Re: Strange Frank Warren comment (that confirms the Calzaghe fall-out?)
sorry mate think your reading too much into that.

Re: Strange Frank Warren comment (that confirms the Calzaghe fall-out?)

Him and Eubank have always absolutely hated eachothers guts ;)

Re: Strange Frank Warren comment (that confirms the Calzaghe fall-out?)
"That’s why I went to Frank Warren and literally begged him, as my promoter, to get Kessler."

Re: Strange Frank Warren comment (that confirms the Calzaghe fall-out?)
Why would Frank hate the man that stays in his country and gives him some of the biggest domestic fights of all time? that is rubbish.

Thats one thing about Warren, he's all business. He may not like you, but if he can make money off you he'll treat u right and keep you around.
An example is Tyson, him and warren actually came to blows before the Bruno Tyson fight but it went ahead and there ewas a rematch when money was there to be made.

Re: Strange Frank Warren comment (that confirms the Calzaghe fall-out?)
Rumour has it Calzaghe is splitting from Warren (btw)

Re: Strange Frank Warren comment (that confirms the Calzaghe fall-out?)
Here is what joes webmaster has to say....
For the past 10 years Frank Warren has managed and promoted Joe.
As Joe's Manager Frank Warren has picked some poor oppoenents for Joe mainly Kabary Salem, Bika etc that coupled with various other issues like using Joe as a pawn to secure contracts with other fighters like Karl Froch, Joe now wishes to Manage himself.
This means Joe will now have 100% freedom in selecting his next opponent(s) after the Kessler fight and have greater control over his remuneration for promotions, endorsements and bouts with future opponents.
This could be another great step for Joe and a step close to Joe making a step up to Light Heavyweight.
Regards,
John

if anyone knows what is happening it will be him. ;)
Warren aint the easiest guy to split from just ask Naz and Hatton :-X

Re: Strange Frank Warren comment (that confirms the Calzaghe fall-out?)
CC Saddo!
Well that sheds a whole new light on not only this fight but also on Joe's remaining career!!!
-
Re: Strange Frank Warren comment (that confirms the Calzaghe fall-out?)
Yep just ask Benn (the most high-profile split back in '88), Naz and Hatton. I'm sure Joe will see court cases with this clown
-
Re: Strange Frank Warren comment (that confirms the Calzaghe fall-out?)
Every boxer should be empowered to do this. Hatton and Naz have made loads of money controlling their careers and all boxers should do it. Galzaghe should have done it years ago. Promoters should work for Boxers but instead it is the other way around. The blood sucker leeches who call themselves promoters are making more money than fighters and that is wrong.

Re: Strange Frank Warren comment (that confirms the Calzaghe fall-out?)
Bit pointless now isnt it?
-
Re: Strange Frank Warren comment (that confirms the Calzaghe fall-out?)
better late than never, if he wins he can line up big money fights to finish off his career in 2008. I believe he will move up to light heavy and fight winner of Tito v Jones and/or Woods or Hopkins. He will make the money and Warren will get squat all.

As much as I like Joe, I agree.
At 35 he isnt gonna turn the world on its heels now.
Calzaghe will beat Kessler. But why now?! :-\

maybe, maybe not? sure he wont no be ablt to fight a prime hopkins or RJJ... but if calzaghe can get through kessler, go ot with wins over pavlik hopkins and or dawson, i think the boxing world will be singing a different tune, One thing is for sure, his next fight is stateside... i dont think this is his last in the uk, he will finish it here, but after this, should he win, its all stateside.

Re: Strange Frank Warren comment (that confirms the Calzaghe fall-out?)
Calzaghe wont ever fight in America. That's a young man's game, he's to old to be pursuing that stuff now.
At this stage he should be involved with fellow fossils - Hopkins, Jones, Winky, Woods, Johnson - not fighting a young hungry guy like Kessler or contemplating making his American debut against young hungry guys like Dawson or Pavlik. I'd be amazed if he did that.
As Memphis said, so what if he splits from Warren now. I can't stand Warren but blaming him for Calzaghe's "poor opponents" is a cop-out.
-
Re: Strange Frank Warren comment (that confirms the Calzaghe fall-out?)
Calzaghe could beat Pavlik easily. Pavlik is a straightforward fighter and Calzaghe will give him more angles than a Trigonometry exam. Dawson might be more problematic because he's bigger and pretty fast, but if Calzaghe can test that chin often enough he could KO him.
-
Re: Strange Frank Warren comment (that confirms the Calzaghe fall-out?)
You may be right
But I don't see how those fights would appeal to an "old boy" with a knackered left hand on his American debut.

Re: Strange Frank Warren comment (that confirms the Calzaghe fall-out?)
Calzaghe has regularly and recently expressed interest in fighting in the states.
And imo, his next fight will certainly be in the US at LH
-
Re: Strange Frank Warren comment (that confirms the Calzaghe fall-out?)
Calzaghe has regularly expressed interest in fighting in the states for the past 10 years...hasn't got him there.
They once used the excuse that he's scared of flying

After the break from Warren I have no doubt that he'll fight in the states as he can't fight in the Manchester MEN or the Millenium Stadium...

;D
Calzaghe the new Ricky Hatton.
-
Re: Strange Frank Warren comment (that confirms the Calzaghe fall-out?)
Pretty much, Old Traford and Wembley are the only other arenas worth fighting in in Britain and i have a feeling that since Ricky failed to employ the services of those venues that they are either uninterested or they have ties with Warren
-
Re: Strange Frank Warren comment (that confirms the Calzaghe fall-out?)
;D
Slowdown mate Warren aint that powerful, he blocked the MEN for Hatton but it didn't matter Hatton WANTED to go fight in the States
You can only stage fights in Football stadiums during the summer, and your date has to match with the one the TV company wants - HBO in Hattons case...so limited opportunities

I reckon he is, who's to rival him in Britain really?
Hobson? He's got Clinton Woods as his number 1 man and Clinton won't be around much longer.
Hennesey? Whats the last youv'e heard from him???
Warren is the numero uno in Britain and one way or another he has an infleunce on most things that happen in British boxing.
-
Re: Strange Frank Warren comment (that confirms the Calzaghe fall-out?)
Yes mate he's the no.1 among Brit promoters - that's no.1 cunt as well..
He's not powerful enough to tie-up all the major sporting venues in Britain though
-
Re: Strange Frank Warren comment (that confirms the Calzaghe fall-out?)
Wouldn't be certain about that, he's into MMA now as well so thats actually giving him a bit more pull.
Really don't like the chap.
-
Re: Strange Frank Warren comment (that confirms the Calzaghe fall-out?)
Warren into MMA? Since when? He slags it off everyweek in his column
We are talking about the same cunt aren't we? :-\
-
Re: Strange Frank Warren comment (that confirms the Calzaghe fall-out?)
Every week religiously he's been deriding and making fun of the sport.
However, recently a sports journalist imparted some information which implicated Mr.Warrenin a bunch of MMA negotiations and business links.

i belive you was talking about this not so long ago....
Warren dosnt deal with websites thus pissing alot of them off... the papers aint intrested in the mismatches.... burnt toooo many bridges with the tv companies and boxing promoters.... rumours Joe is fleeing the nest and Khan due to be exposed any day now.
i would say MMA is the only option he has left ;)
-
Re: Strange Frank Warren comment (that confirms the Calzaghe fall-out?)
Now wouldn't that be ironic.....
A promoter that is staging a fight with over 50,000 punters turning-up needs to pack the game in........
